Najam Sethi has recently made it clear that he wants an overseas coach to take over the reigns as Pakistan Head Coach.
PCB is keen to look at Mickey Arthur regarding the role of Head Coach. He is currently their number one choice. Options are being looked at with talks likely to take place in the new year.
The complication is that Mickey has a contract with Derbyshire which the County will of course want him to honour.
I guess it all depends whether Derbyshire would allow Arthur to split his time between working in County Cricket and his international commitments.
Mickey Arthur needs to be abit aware of our political situation.
The intial length of his contract wont matter. Maybe if he bags a 5 year+ contract he would be in a win win situation.
The coaches job will only last till the time shebazs gogt is in place. For arthur to keep his job long term, he will depend upon shebaz shareef winning the election. If shebaz losses than Arthus could be removed from the job under the new patron.
The care taker govt will also be crucial if the care taker pm is a cricket fan and ends up taking very drastic measures and brings a new coach.
Anyways, Arthur needs to be abit careful in a way that he doesnt end up quiting derbyshire, come to Pakistan only to get fired after 6 months and than he is jobless for the season.
I think from Arthurs pov, sign a contract, keep the derbyshire contract in place. Just fish and see what happens after general elections and if shebazs govt wins, he can quit the derbyshire job. If he loses his pcb job he can keep his derbyshire one if the other party wins.
Best deal for him is to sign a 3-4 year contract, hope to get fired and get a big pay day....
