After an impressive debut series against India, Cummins has just picked up 12 wickets in the County Championship for Worcestershire. He now has 137 FC wickets at an impressive average of 22.52.

West Indies, the team that has historically produced the highest number of quality fast bowlers, have not produced a great fast bowler since Courtney Walsh who retired all the way back in 2001.

Since then many have shown a great deal of promise such as Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach but all have slowly faded away without making much of an impact.

The Windies have now had to resort to trundlers in the form of Sammy, Holder and Brathwaite.

Is Cummins the fast bowler WI have been looking for?

He'll most likely regress and fade away to become an average bowler like the names you mentioned

Maybe. They already have 2 pace gems from their U19 team one being Alzarri Joseph.

I like Shannon Gabriel too. He can be lethal when he gets it right. Wish Windies would stop playing trundlers like Holder and Brathwaite as frontline bowlers. They should convert to batting all-rounders, in my opinion.

Sheldon cotterrel
Kemar roach
Alzzari Joseph
Shanon Gabriel

All bowl 90mph plus

Have been saying this on PP for last 1 year that

Alzarri Joseph
Miguel Cummins &
Shanon Gabriel

Can Form a Very Good Fast Bowling Lineup. Certainly the best for West Indies in Last 15 years.

Hopefully Sharjeel gives them some beatings of their lifetime.

Cummins and Gabriel are like Wahab Riaz, bowl some crap mixed with a few gems here and there. So will be expensive in Test cricket in RPO and average will also reflect it. They are both tall and quick, but are not getting helpful wickets and with the team they have, are always under pressure.

Cummins' action and fundamentals has a lot of Windies fans salivating, because it shows a lot of potential. Gabriel is a workhorse type bowler, and can be good 3rd pacer if he stays injury free. Young Alzarri reminds me a lot of young Amir in terms of just swag and potential. But he's too young and raw. If the windies team had proper management around it, you could see Cummins and Alzarri blossoming into a very good fast bowling pair. But they have to beat the odds to do it. Thanks to the incompetent WICB who make even PCB look super professional by comparison.

Exciting always nice to see young90+ mph guys come through. The Wi tradition could return then. The U19 winning side seem to have some fast guys also potential but unfortunately the corrupt selection and board concerns me for their team.

I love the fact that he's playing county championships. Hopefully other batsmen and bowlers in Caribbean follow the suit. Cricket needs a strong West Indies team!

WI has good potential , but problem is that the board is not good. A good WI side is required for World cricket.

Alzarri Joseph
Miguel Cummins
Shanon Gabriel

Along with Sheldon Cotterel.

All 90 mph + and should be invested on.

The problem with WI in cricket is that all of them will be interested in playing CPL, IPL, Big Bash, and even PSL. So instead of becoming fine test bowlers, they'll become mercenaries and lose the desire to play cricket over 5 days. WI cricket isn't in such a state because lack of talent, they are here because of lack of desire and more money in league cricket rather than test cricket.

Plus their board and regional politics are below average and not an example on how a cricket board should be run.

I remember lurking ages ago and people were touting some nobody like Joel Paris as the next coming of Wasim Akram

Good fast bowler! Bowls quick and also gets the ball to nip around quite a lot! Already a 6 fer in test, didn't know his FC stats were that good.

But it all depends on he is handled, hopefully he doesn't just fade away. Same with Joseph and Gabriel..

I found Gabriel the most impressive of the lot both in that odi tri-series and then the tests vs India.

Gabriel, Joseph and Cummins are the three to watch for if WI takes the longer format seriously and play their heart out in these games.

Not Roach any longer. Has become a trundler after his injuries.

But yes, Cummins, Gabriel and Joseph can all hit 90mph and are a much more potent pace attack than what they've had in recent years.

Gabriel just needs to be more consistent with his line and length, whilst he has the pace he can be wayward.

In addition, Jason Holder is not the most talented but at his height can extract awkward bounce off a good length and is a workhorse.

Miguel Cummins quits West Indies, signs Kolpak deal with Middlesex

Pacer Miguel Cummins has left West Indies after signing a three-year Kolpak deal with Middlesex. During his time with the Caribbean nation, Cummins played 14 Tests and 11 ODIs. He last represented West Indies in the Antigua Test against India in August.

Cummins is the latest West Indies player who follows in the footsteps of Fidel Edwards (who joined Hampshire) and Ravi Rampaul (Derbyshire) who have signed the Kolpak deal.

During his brief tenure at Middlesex, the 29-year-old Cummins pocketed eight wickets in three Championship games. He previously played under Middlesex’s coach, Stuart Law, when he was in charge of West Indies between 2017 and 2018.

“Stuart Law recommended that we get Miguel over, to have a look at him, on the back of the time he had spent with him whilst coaching the West Indies,” Middlesex’s director of cricket, Angus Fraser, was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday.

“I had watched Miguel on video, but it is often only when you see someone play live that you get a true reflection of their capabilities. I was immediately impressed by Miguel.

“He has control, is able to move the ball away from a right-handed batsman and, I believe, the ability to bowl fast, aggressive spells when conditions dictate. During the recent spell he spent with Middlesex he fit in really well and will be a popular member of our squad.”

Meanwhile, Middlesex are in search for a new skipper this season after Dawid Malan announced that he was stepping down after two years in the role.

“Dawid has thrown his heart and soul into the role of club captain for the past two years, and on behalf of Middlesex Cricket, I would like to thank him for that,” Fraser said.

“He has also shown great pride and dignity in the way he has handled a difficult season and he leaves the role knowing he has given it all he can.

“As a batsman the captaincy seems to have got the best out of him and he has had an excellent season. He has been our best player in testing batting conditions. That things have not worked out as we hoped is disappointing for everyone involved and we must take the responsibility for that. Personally, I would like to thank Dawid for his commitment to the role and his desire to take the club forward. We must now turn our attention to finding a suitable replacement to take this great club forward.”

Very average for the Windies. Not going to be missed.

He was pretty mediocre, won't really be missed. Will do well in county cricket though, his bowling style suits country cricket.

He was a bad bowler. Don't know why West Indies kept playing him. His medium pace seam bowling can only work in England.

West Indies already invested heavily in this guy and he repays it by taking Kolpak.

Kind of ungrateful but I can see why he took the decision.
