After their game against New Zealand on June 13 was abandoned due to rain, India will now take on Pakistan in a hugely anticipated clash on June 16 in Manchester. As the 2 teams only meet each other in multi-nation tournaments, the clash is a mouth-watering prospect for fans and cricketers alike.

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in an exclusive chat with India Today said that Pakistan have a very potent pace attack, especially with Mohammad Amir returning to form with a five-for against Australia in their last match. Sachin believes that Amir and his teammates would love to get the key wickets of Indian captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma, early to unsettle India when the teams meet in Manchester.

"Rohit and Virat are the 2 more experienced players in the lineup and Pakistan would be focussing on getting them early without any doubt as that opens the game for them. Amir and Wahab Riaz will definitely target their wickets early on. But Rohit and Virat should also be looking to play long innings. the plan should be that the rest of the guys play around them," said Sachin.

Sachin was also impressed by Amir's bowling against Australia and said that Indians shouldn't go with a negative mindset of just playing him out. In Sachin's view, even if they defend it should be such that it sends out a strong message to the opposition.

"Yesterday (June 12), his first spell was very accurate. He was hitting the right areas and made (Aaron) Finch's life difficult. I wouldn't go in with a negative mindset of playing dot balls against him. If you get an opportunity, I would encourage India to play their shots and stay positive. It's not about survival but rather going out there and even defend positively. No need to do anything different. We need to be aggressive in all departments. The body language is important - the bowler knows that you're in control if you defend confidently," said Sachin.

India will be without their regular opener Shikhar Dhawan when they take on Pakistan with KL Rahul expected to open the innings with Rohit. India are currently on the 3rd spot in the points table with 5 points from 3 games after the washout against New Zealand on Thursday.

Dhawan will be a big loss for India! Sachin has proved how smart he is by telling us Kohli and Sharma will be targeted!:13: He deserves an award for this comment.

I read misread target as 'get'. I was like what's happened to the bias he's so used to.

lol..he's wrong..Amir will be targeting both. Wahab will try to target them but then give up after getting a pasting..

Sorry for the negativity but Ive been very disappointed with this WC..reminds me of 2007 and 2003..

Bhumrah & Shami will target Fakhar by bowling wide of off stump hoping he will flash hard and top edge to 3rd man.

Damn who would have thought.... excellent insight by the maestro :))

Brilliant insight.... Noone was able to figure it out... Thanks genius

People should read the article before
Commenting, undoubtedly Sachin is no Dravid with his analysis but article will give a better picture.

Replying is affirmative shouldn’t be reported as that being his opinion or thought process.

Great insight. Can't wait for more expert punditry from the little master :srt

Pakistan desperately want to win. So do India.

The players will be coming hard at the oppo.

On their day Pakistan can beat anyone.

India will be looking to Bumrah and Chahal to provide breakthroughs.

The team batting will be looking to provide a solid start and set the base.

The team bowling will be hoping to make early breakthroughs.

Play the ball on merit.

It's a confidence game. But also a game of fine margins. And glorious uncertainties

The above analysis was for free. From here on I will charge for my valuable insights.

The ulitmate punishment for a fan is to be forced to listen to sachin and wasim do commentary describing a blue wall.

I sorta disagree a bit with Sachin: I think Pakistan will try to open the other end - i.e., Rahul so that they can get Kohli in early.

Sachin - Pak bowlers will target Rohit & Virat
Wasim - Amir should swing the ball and get more wkts
Misbah - Problem with Pak team is they are out of form

Ears bleeding after so much 'expert' analysis.

Ready to prefer cringey Rambo-Manjrekar jugalbandi over these specialist bores

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar has said India will certainly not be complacent when they take on Pakistan in the blockbuster ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match on Sunday in Manchester.

India haven't lost to Pakistan in a World Cup encounter, winning all their 6 meetings so far in the quadrennial showpiece event. However, India were outclassed by 180 runs in the final of Champions Trophy 2017, which was also the last time the two Asian rivals met at an ICC event.

"That's a positive comeback [Champions Trophy win in 2017]. After having been 6-0 down, the last one that they [Pakistan] had won. Indian team wouldn't be overconfident. We are confident but we won't be overconfident. I can fully understand that Ravi [Shastri], Virat [Kohli] and all the senior players would be emphasizing that we got to be on our toes, go out and play what we are good at," Sachin Tendulkar said.

Tendulkar also pointed out that India are certainly 100% better at the moment due to the consistent success in the recent past in ODI cricket.

India have been dominant against Pakistan since the 2015 World Cup, winning 3 of their 4 meetings in ODI cricket. India had comfortably thrashed Pakistan in both their Asia Cup 2018 meetings.

"I think when you are winning you are thinking different, but we, as a team, always think that we can't be overconfident. Pack those confident things in the kitbag and travel with it. The team which is winning invariably the thought process is different and you believe you can pull through difficult situations," Tendulkar added.

Against Australia, Pak lost wickets at critical moments. They are a decent side and were in the game till the end," he added.

"At this stage 100% India are the better side. The way we have been performing for a number of months now we have been right at the top and carrying the momentum all the way."

In ICC events since 2000

Pakistan have only beaten India 3 times in 10 matches, Never in a World Cup. The last time they won a game in a tournament against India in the group phase was in the 2009 Champions trophy. 10 years ago.

What an analysis, clearly a smart guy :) I was expecting Amir and Wahab to be targeting the tailenders until hearing this from Sachin, now convinced they will target Rohit and Kohli.

Atleast he said something about present. Mostly he loves to talk about his school days. As if we are dying to hear what he did during his school days.

His technical analysis about Rohit in one of the matches during Hindi commentary was great. Showed why he is the best batsmen to have ever played the game.

However he generally sounds very boring and mundane. As a commentator his commentary is good only when paired up with sehwag, bhajji and dada. Then the old stories come out along with technical analysis in between which is next level.

Will be another one side game as has been the case for a while. India should win this comfortably. Kohli didn't even play in the Asia cup and his wicket doesn't mean India will roll over. Indian bowling will win the game.

True, his technical analysis is absolutely next level, shows why he was such a successful cricketer. His only problem is that he doesn't have good communication skills which is why he should stay away from commentary box.

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar believes Pakistan lacked out of the box thinking and that their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was confused right through the match. (Complete coverage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019)

Sarfaraz won the toss and elected to bat first, but then Indian openers, after a watchful start, took control of proceedings as they almost strolled to 336. Tendulkar put the blame on Sarfaraz and said that the skipper lacked any ideas and was very confused with his field placements.

“I thought he was confused because when Wahab was bowling he had a short mid-wicket. And when Shadab came on to bowl he had a slip for him. In these conditions, it becomes difficult for a leg-spinner to grip the ball, especially when he’s not getting the right line and length. That is not the right way to approach a big game,” Tendulkar told India Today.

“They lacked imagination, lacked out of the box thinking. If the ball is not moving around much, you don’t continue bowling over the wicket, Wahab went around the wicket but it was too late by then. Hassan was the only guy to get the ball to move off the surface. I would have told them to change the angle and do something different. I never thought we were going to lose a wicket,” he further added.
