Who is better between Hafeez and Moeen Ali

Hafeez averages about 4 more runs with the bat, and 3-4 fewer with the ball in test cricket when compared to Ali.

Hafeez also beats him convincingly in batting and bowling stats in ODI's and T20's.

So on bare stats, Hafeez appears to be winning by a considerable margin in all formats.

Hafeez, during his prime (2011-2013) was as good as Ali is now. Presently, Ali is the superior player.

They play different roles for their respective teams so it's not a like for like comparison.

If the question is who makes a bigger contribution to their team, the answer is obviously Moeen.

What an insult to Hafeez.

Moeen is a good player, but Hafeez is a Pak. legend.

Hafeez averaged 45+ with bat, was a top 5 spinner and top 10 bowler across all formats during his prime. And he was the number one all-rounder in the world.

Let Moeen Ali come close to those achievements, let alone equal them, then we will talk about this comparison.

Hafeez at his best was damn good. But a good part of his career he did chuck.

Ali is a decent offie and can bat in any condition. Hafeez struggles against lateral movement

Say what?

Moeen has been under utilised so far by England in LOIs as a batsmen. Hafeez was a better bowler when he chucked you could say. Other than that Moeen is a lot better.

Hafeez the Pak Legend and he in turn saying Gul was a bigger Match Winner than Asif, Shoaib etc. LOL

You have to hit your head in the wall repeatedly for a very long time to be able to keep a straight face in reading such jibresh :-)

Is this a joke? Hafeez a chucker / flat track home bully vs Ali who is a star on his team.

Hafeez's only good period was when he was chucking, useless batsman even then.

Ali is far better than Hafeez, the tuk-tuk master who bowled with an ILLEGAL ACTION.

I am not a fan of Hafeez. However, Pakistani fans saying he chucked etc should be careful of what they say. Hafeez was within the ICC rules therefore was he not chucking. He got called later when there was a review of the rule. This is the same with Ajmal. If ICC change their rule to 10 degrees tomorrow; would we call todays bowlers chuckers who exceed 10? This doesn't make sense.

Only in Asia. He averages under 15 in most overseas countries and that is quite frankly, horrible for an opening batsman.

I don't know why people keep bringing up chucking whenever they talk about someone who was reported for an illegal action. Yeah, so what? Had these rules been applicable during Murali's playing days no one would be calling him the greatest spinner of all-time. Harbhajan very likely could and should have been banned.

Regulations have changed now and there definitely needs to be a restriction against chucking. But if a bowler has been approved by the ICC and stop calling him a chucker and just because Ajmal had his career ended because of this doesn't mean his achievemnets for Pakistan Cricket can be discounted. I say this because I read a number of posters say they don't know how good Ajmal was because he was banned for chucking and they were basically second-guessing all he did for the team.

The law has not changed. Hafeez got caught, came back, chucked again, and picked a 5-fer against SL, then caught chucking again. Since, then his action has been cleaner but he is not even half the bowler that he was.

The same is true for Ajmal.

What does that tell you?

Hafeez is still pretty decent with the ball tbf. Still pretty economical. Would he make it into the England team? I think so.. He would've probably been there before Ali. But on current form, I would definitely go Ali over Hafeez, have to admit.

Also consider if Hafeez had swallowed his ego and batted most of his career at 6/7/8, he would've made runs all around the world. If the ball wasn't swinging, Hafeez was always pretty good.

Moeen Ali is horribly over rated on this forum. Moeen has just had one great series vs SA, overall Hafeez is a much better player when the entire career of both players is compared.
