What's new

Mohammad Hafeez's century the highlight of Day 1 of the 1st Test between Pakistan and Australia

Imam will be a good test player. I am convinced of that. Hope he can get a big score today.

It's because of pitches like these test cricket is dying. Who wants to see batsman pile up runs in the crazy heat

Pakistan must not let go of this strong position. We've seen time and again that when the opening partnership scores, the rest of the batting crumbles. They must look to get 450+ and then Yasir becomes doubly effective with the scoreboard pressure.

Siddle is a workhorse. Decent selection for this tour and with those experienced players out , he's a good character to have around the dressing room.

Cummins is a hit-the-deck bowler, and UAE wickets are graveyards for this style of bowling. Pakistan would have feasted on his half trackers. Not saying Siddle is a massive upgrade on Cummins, but with Holland being so inexperienced they needed a workhorse at the other end to keep Starc fresh.

So were Ranchi and Bangladeshi pitches graveyards for his type of bowling. But he still got wickets and maintained a tight line there. Hafeez would have struggled against his bounce. Cummins has been the most successful fast bowler in subcontinent tours since 2015. Cummins is a workhorse bowler, he bowls many overs that is his role, and starc is the strike bowler.

Siddle has been pretty good so far, this test he will play a big role. he is a good replacement for hazlewood and cummins.

Need to try and get to 450. But Finch ,Khawaja, and Mitch Marsh could be dangerous on a flat pitch.

Cummins is injured anyway.

Great cricket. Something for bowlers. These type of pitches should be encouraged rather than Rajkot . Great batsmen can survive and thrive which is rightfully happening now. Test Cricket is truly alive.

australia should keep bowling seamers, starc and siddle and not take them out of the attack. they are the only ones who are giving hafeez a tough time. lyon is not looking threatening, bowl him after the 1st wicket falls.

Lol. Pakistan burying Australia in the desert. Holland was very poor when I was watching . But to be fair, these are comfortably the worst pitches on the world for cricket.

What a weak team Aussies have become, playing Finch in Tests :))

Should beat them next month but won't

Could somebody please tell me who is showing the match in the UK? Thanks.

Pitches in UAE are batting friendly. However, wait till Australia bats on the same pitch, then make a call. I see nothing so far added in the skills of Australian bowlers to be effective on pitches not helping them.

Difficult start for Paine. Missing experienced players , lots of new players in the squad, and playing in unfavourable conditions.

Would be more appropriate to judge him in a home series.

Those pitches have a bit in them, in terms of bounce. UAE wickets have much lower bounce in comparison and banging the ball in short, which is Cummins' strength, is futile here. There is a reason Starc also has good numbers in India/Sri Lanka/Bangladesh and average returns in the UAE. Cummins won't last even the first test if he's used as a workhorse.

Australia is missing Hazlewood way more than Cummins.

Just keep milking. Holland and Labuschagne bowling together on this pitch is every batsman's dream

Imperative for Australia to get Hafeez out quickly here. Azhar is in next so he will bring the scoring rate to a grinding halt for sure. The longer Hafeez stays, the quicker Australia is out of this game.

Imam has shown that once set he knows how to go big. Very important trait for a test match player. Once he gets his 1st century , I can see him getting a few .

Fantastic prospect in tests.

As i said. Ranchi in india is a road. The pitches in the two tests in bangladesh had no bounce in at all, they were even more dry and bigger rank turners than the ones in india. hazlewood did not get a single wicket in bangladesh. But Cummins got wickets and constantly threatened the batsmen in both india and bangladesh

Mitch Starc has been poor in both his tours to india. Cummins outbowled starc in india by quite a margini
Starc only performed in one series in sri lanka otherwise has 10 wickets in 5 matches in subcontinent

Dont know why everyone thinks hazlewood is so good. Hazlewood has very poor stats in subcontinent. Hazlewood got 12 wickets in 4 matches in South Africa at avg of 40 despite bowling on seaming wickets.

Cummins can bowl 40 overs in an innings, he lasts long periods. He has outbolwed starc and hazlewood in every series since his comeback.

Fantastic prospect in tests.
He's much better than Sami Aslam. I can't believe we had someone so mediocre represent Pakistan on important away tours

Sami Aslam is a good prospect but he has mental issues at international level. If he can overcome them, he will be a good player. But he needs to get a chance to show us he has the mental strength. Doesn't look like he will get that chance for a while.

Imam character and mental strength have impressed me . In LO he has a lot to prove still. But in tests he should get the best few series.

I have a question. Why were the pitches for odis in the asia cup bowler friendly and how did they turn into batting friendly roads for the test series?

Fair enough, when you bring up his stats in Asia with regards to Starc and Hazlewood. However, I’m strictly going by his modus operandai which is banging the ball in short and letting the pitch do the talking. Personally don’t think Cummins would have been much of a factor here in the UAE, but we won’t know until he aftually bowls here on these dead wickets. One thing in his favor is the raw pace he generates, and maybe bowling stump to stump with that pace might have benefitted him on Asian wickets so far.

I highly doubt Cummins can handle a workload of 40 overs. He breaks down too often for my liking. Bowling with that much stress on your body in this UAE heat is not a matter to be taken lightly.

I wake up, switch on the television and see school's in session.

:hafeez

Doesn't seem to be much chirp from the Australians. Sandpaper gate seems to have toned them down.

Does anyone know why there is a wierd eco on Star Gold?

True. Cummins would definitely struggle in the UAE. Im not saying he would take a 5-fer and rattle pakistan. He would have been injured bowling that many overs in this heat.

It makes sense that a fast bowler banging the ball short on a flat wickets would not get wickets and would be hammered,. but somehow, he has proved otherwise. As you said, his raw pace is his main success factor. He has 15 wickets in 4 tests in asia. that is significantly other seamers. But UAE is another level of hell for seaners, cummins would not be as successful here.

But he would not be any less handy than starc and hazlewood . Im just saying that starc and joshy hazlewood are not as good as people making them out to be.

How has the pitch become batting friendly unlike during Asia cup? Is it because batsmen not trying to score runs and waiting for loose deliveries?

Wow, Nathan Lyon absolutely toothless in this match so far

They'll be silly enough to get Hafeez to open vs South Africa now.
