Mohammad Rizwan - the next white-ball captain of Pakistan?

Look, Rizwan has captaincy experience with Peshawar Region and SNGPL. If he did well, than PCB should make him the captain.

Babar sucked, Shadab is going to be dropped, and Shaheen has not much captaincy experience in List A and First Class.

Second option is Saud Shakeel.

Third option would be Iftikhar, as he also has captaincy experience, but his recent form may rule him out.
 
Everybody know how staunchly I've supported Rizwan as a T20 opener. But in the same breath I've also said that Rizwan does not deserve to be in the ODI team. He got exposed in the World Cup against the big boys and should rightly be dropped from the team. Saud Shakeel needs to be given the number 4 slot. Rizwan cannot be allowed to dictate terms anymore, especially without any meaningful performance in ODIs.

Based on the fact that they are part of a nexus which is out to ruin Pakistan cricket.

No one is above Pakistan.
 
He is the only logical option but there is an issue with it.

You don't want to burden your keeper who is also one of your best batsmen with the pressure of captaincy.

Shaheen needs to take time off and work on his bowling before even thinking of captaincy.

Imad as T20 captain may not be the worst idea . He's a very good T20 cricketer and has the smarts to be a captain.

But there's absolutely no easy choice for the longer formats.

Maybe Shan Masood can be stop gap captain in Tests .
 
Rizwan won't be the worst choice but he has to stay calm in order to make sure that he is making the right decisions. Sometimes, he looks too eager to do things too quickly.

Acha boys I must give you my 10 words of wisdom.

1) When you get out, act as if you're injured, that'll cover up the embrassment.

2) if you want to be in the team, follow me on twitter and tiktok.

3) when you reach a milestone like a 50 or 100, bow and pray to Allah, because chances are with my management, you won't be getting milestones anytime soon, it'll be a once in a blue moon, so remember to thank Allah for the fluke he provides.

4) If you want to bat at a certain position, follow me on twitter and go on the media and complain, you will surely get your wish.

5) Always use 3rd umpire, it doesn't matter if you think it's out or not, we must waste reviews as much as possible.

6) Always take the game deep, that way in the next world cup, we will inshallah land in a situation where we must score 500 runs and out the opposition for 10 runs.

7) Never question the Holy grail that is no 4 in odi and opening in t20, it belongs to me and me alone.

8) Always play for yourself, when you shall do so, you will get an amazing Average and an icc rank, it shall cover up the embrassment until the next icc tournament, where we get out next reality check.

9) Always smile and joke with the opposition, so that if Pakistan hates us, atleast India will love us, make sure to give them cake too.

10) Always take runs when you hit the ball to the inner fielder and do a pose when you come to the wicket, chances are you may get run out, but someone will take a picture and hire you to audition for the next mission impossible movie.

He could be a shrewd captain but is probably the continuity option and won't offer a change to the current system.

I think Shan will eventually end up as the three format captain.

It shouldn't happen....but it will.

Bro I forgot to mention

-Rizwan will also tell his players to make sure that they pander up to the opposition’s most followed on Instagram/Twitter players too. Because this will allow the fan following of that player to also become fans of Rizwan and his players

+mention of ‘Smith’ or ‘Kane’ especially told him that his leg side hoick is one of the most special shots in world cricket.

+Shout ‘no run’ or ‘Won’, when taking a single or no run so that the opposition knows that you speak a little English too, that way they will be impressed by you and think you are modern cricketers from Pakistan.
 
If Rizwan is becoming the next captain, please also let me know when David Miller, Tim David and Rilee Russow Pollard are also getting their Pakistani nationality approved.

These players are the ones who make him look good as a captain. Not sure if Iftikhar, Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali will be able to replicate their work

To be completly fair, his hoick to legside is good, its a shot England players play as well.

Problem is rizwan plays the shot randomly and often fails at it, because he's clueless at judging line and length, the same way he randomly plays slog sweep and it tends to backfire.

I'd be fine with it, if he was like de Villiers who also frequently played that hoick but de villers judged line and length, he didnt miss or get out in embrassing fashions.

This hoick has never worked against any good bowler besides matt Henry for some reason.

Every other bowler dominated rizwan when he tries to play that shot.

He picks a mediocre bowler from the oppositions bowling line up to play it against once or twice every game. Fair play to him when it connects and goes for six. He tried it against Marco Jansen (a proper bowler) and we all saw how that turned out for him. No proper bowler will allow him to do that.
 
If Rizwan becomes T20 captain, what’s the plan?

Him and Babar open…whilst Saim and Fakhar bat at 3 and 4?

His hoick isn't new, de villers played it frequently. I recall him being the one who turned it into a norm and many aussie and England players kinda copied him.

So don't know why rizzu is being given credit by Smith for that excellent shot. It ain't his own shot that he invented lol.

Most unorthodox shots were invented by de villers since I think he's played nearly every unorthodox shot known to mankind.

Jansen pitched the next ball back on a good/back of a length and then told Rizwan to hoick it with the ball carrying to the keeper’s chest lol. It was so funny to see.

Can’t wait for the Australia series, high bounce season @topspin

Shahid Afridi wants Mohammad Rizwan as the captain of the Pakistan team for white ball cricket. This is what he said while talking on TV.

"If you ask my advice, I would not make Babar Azam captain for the limited overs cricket. I would appoint Mohammad Rizwan as captain who's a fighter and he is aggressive. Ask Babar to enjoy his batting and score runs for us".

Rizwan is a fighter and is aggressive? What world would that be?

His last innings was anything but aggressive
 
Rizwan who shouldn't even be included in the main xi of a proper t20i side is being recommended by some fans as the next captain!🤣 Are you kidding me? In odi's I understand, the guy has made enough people fool to convince that he had a great world cup & was the "best" performer of his side. Like an expert con artist he maintained wonderful statistics by bullying the minnows & scoring some useless 30/40 statpadding digits to make the impression of a great performer. So if anybody wants him as the next odi captain I understand the logic no matter how flawed that might be. But, t20i? in a format where he doesn't even merit a place? Wasn't the embarrassment of last t20 wc not enough that some people want further antics?

Rizwan lacks the maturity to be captain. I've never seen a poorer judge of a review despite being the best situated fielder behind the stumps.

When he was captain of Pakistan A in 2018, he promoted himself, a non-specialist batsman, above Saud Shakeel.

He also publicly aired his disgruntlement about batting at 5 instead of 4 which is unbecoming of a senior player.

Besides that, not everyone can be MS Dhoni. We saw how Sarfraz cracked under the strain. Juggling the burdens of keeping, batting and captaincy is very tough and why we don't see many keeper captains.
 
Rizwan won't be a bad choice in white ball cricket. In test matches, we can go back with Sarfaraz as a short term solution.
 
Time to lead hopefully he will be good captain for Pakistan

Reading a lot of people upset on social media because they feel injustice was done to him.

Rizwan’s direction, is the wrong direction in Cricket!

I don't think I mind shaheen personally.

I minded rizwan cause he unlike you who's a true Pakistani fan was not a true pakistani player.

He played for himself and not the team.

Shaheen is fine, he lacks form but he's fine

I think Rizwan was thought to be too similar to Babar in the end. The dressing room energy would be the same plus it’s another burden for him on an already heavy schedule.

Shaheen will bring a lot more fire than Babar and Rizwan. But whether he is mature enough to harness that positively among his troops remains to be seen.

Babar did have a united dressing room for most of his captaincy. And that is a big achievement for a Pakistani. Shaheen will have a job on his hands to prevent us slipping back into the dark days of infighting and grouping.

A calmer personality in Rizwan as VC to Shaheen might be a good bet. But let’s see.

In a few months, though, you will realize how Babar and Rizwan do their con act in T20s.

After the performances in 2023 ODI WC and 2024 T20 WC, Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen, Shadab, Haris, Iftikhar and Azam Khan should be nowhere near the team.

This toxic bunch has to be thrown back to domestic cricket for at least 2 years.

We need a fresh start, and we need to keep this toxicity away from the team.

Can anyone explain how a side that was

No 1 test rank in 2016
Ct winner in 2017
No 1 t20 rank in 2018
Beat england 2x in their own den in 2017 and 2019

ended up collapsing in 2020 alone?

I wish 2021 did not happen. It should not have happened. That tournament is the biggest killer of pak cricket as it created a year long delusion simply because India Botched it and bobby and rizzu rode the coattails of asif Ali in the following games

Just as people said lord Babar will change fortunes of Pakistan cricket . Rizwan is of same mould . He will be smiling and doing dawah after loss and will say that is our real duty .
 
Rizwan's motivational speeches to his team, his pre and post match interviews will be fun to watch.

An excellent decision.

Rizwan is the best cricketer in Pakistan right now because he is completely irreplaceable simply due to the fact that no other WK batsman in the country right now is even comparable to him.

Without Rizwan, Pakistan would arguably have the worst collection of WK batsmen in the world.

He is right choice for all format Pakistani at the moment although he will have to wait for some time to replace Masood who has got a new lease of life.
 
During the 2nd test match against England, Shan gave Rizwan full authority to make field adjustments. Even our bowlers kept pointing towards Rizwan after picking up wickets. The scenario was evident to the extent that the cameraman consitently followed Rizwan's movement as if he was the captain of PCT.

Yeah he's a confident guy and he performs better in tough situations which shows he's mentally strong but unfortunately I don't think PCB will even consider him as an option.
 
With Rizwan emerging as a strong candidate for captaincy ,one thought came to my mind and I would like to know opinions of my honourable fellows on this "Are wicket keepers make a better captain than any other in cricket? "

I know that effective captaincy depends on some of other factors as well like
1- Technical Acumen
2- Leadership qualities
3- Communication skills
4- Player management etc.
However, a wicket keeper with above mentioned qualities will have an extra advantage due to his unique field position.

Your thoughts?
