Sarfraz is rubbish in the lower order, struggles to hit big, whereas Rizwan had played Malinga really well, so he can be the better option in the lower order. If they want to persist with Sarfraz, then open with him.

If Sarfraz is trash in limited overs then what are Azhar and Rizwan?

Last 12 months:

Sarfraz scored 240 runs in 8 innings at an average of 30.
Rizwan scored 128 runs in 6 innings at an average of 25.6.
Azhar scored 145 runs in 9 innings at an average of 16.11.

So you would kick out the guy that looks most likely to succeed under pressure with a guy that played well against an ageing Malinga. Its results business and if Sarfraz fails then by all means try someone else but at this point in time they are worlds apart in their contributions to the team.

I remember 3-4 years ago, fans were crying for Sarfraz's inclusion, and now when he's in, they all want chopping and changing.

I don't want to kick him out, if he plays as an opener, in the lower order Rizwan is the better option.
 
Azhar, Sarfraz, Hafeez or Malik are all terrible LOI players. They all have limited range of shots and cannot rotate strike at will. None of them has big shots against seamers.

Malik, Sarfraz, Hafeez cannot play 140/145 deliveries which you have to face when playing top team. Against quality seam attack they will be sitting duck. None of them can play cut or pull. Most of them can play spin but is that enough?? - Do you need 4 players who can only play spin [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]


None of them deserve to be in LOI teams, making one of them Captain is even worse. Pakistan cannot improve its ranking if any 2/3 of them are in team on consistent basis.

Pakistan has to phase them out, they should have been phased out long before they kicked out Umar Akmal, who is much better player then any one of them.

Pakistan has already phased out Hafeez and Malik from test team, it's time to show them boot from the LOI teams as well.

Azhar is quality test player, but in LOI he looses his game when facing pressure of scoring runs quickly. In test that situation rarely arise.

Sarfraz has only one shot, which every body in the world has found out, you block that and he is dead in Lois [emoji82][emoji82][emoji82]

It shouldn't be about one vs the other as both can be in the team: Sarfraz as wicketkeeper and Rizwan as one down to replace Hafeez. I believe both should be given separate set roles rather than competing for a spot. Rizwan plays pace well so he will do good in the top order. Plus he will be better utilized in the field. Sarfraz on the other hand has shown that he can play with tail and he is a better keeper. If we make it about one vs the other this can lead to future groupings in the team which will do more damage than the good as some argue that the competition between the two will get them to improve. Already we are sowing the seeds of division by having different captains for different formats. We don't want to get into a situation where a captain chooses Rizwan over Sarfraz to purposely keep the later out of the team as Sarfraz is also competing for Captaincy. The earlier we distinguish their roles the better it will be for team unity
 
Still better than Sarfraz, Steve Smith had an average of 22 in his first 17 ODI games, Rizwan has the potential, needs to bat at 4, will over take Sarfraz in future.
 
Sarfraz has proven his worth when we need to build a score, but as a player who needs to hit from word go he has been a failure

Rizwan is also in a similar boat, he needs time and it's unfair to expect him to hit out

It's a real mess
 
Last 4 Odi Series Rizwan has Played :


110 runs in Last 10 Odi's with an Average of 13.75 and a highest Score of 34*.


I think he will be dropped for the Odi Series against Australia.

He doesn't feast on minnows, he scored a match winning responsible knock against a better team some matches ago, persist with him and then you will see, deserves the same amount games as Akmal before he was axed.
 
Both are extremely pathetic specially when you want them to accelerate.

Because, they CAN'T!

They aren't power players, can't hit, can't accelerate, and if not coming at 3/4 early in the overs, they'll SINK your team.

What match winning knock. he made a run a ball 25 when Malik and sarfi scores the bulk of runs. Just because he scored 25 odd runs when the required run rate was less than 6, it's a match winning knock. Shabash.
 
We can rely on Sarfraz against spinners. But we cannot rely on Rizwan against spinners + running between the wickets. Both are useless at the end of innings because they cannot hit big continuously.
 
Maybe too early but his glove-work was excellent.
 
Rizwan WK > Sarfaraz.

He needs to improve very much in batting to become a constant member of the team.
 
Give Glove-work may have improved but, his batting has been nothing short of abysmal.
 
Man his batting was embarrassing could not even take a single needs to improve a lot
 
In odi's:
Sarfaraz can bat well for quickfire 30 vs rizwan who does not seem to know how to bat but can keep better
 
Needs to work on his batting, think Rixon has improved him as a keeper. Rizwan needs to work with a specialist batting coach.

There is no point. He seems to have no power, no confidence in hitting big shots. Might become a good test keeper/batsmen but isn't a LOI player.

Very strange why anyone thinks he is.
 
Sarfraz is an important part of Pakistan's ODI batting lineup.

Rizwan needs to continue developing his batting to earn a spot.

Sometimes you just have a feeling about a player I have that feeling with Rizwan. He started of well vs Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Not the best opposition but was still a good start
 
Rizwan with 7 catches in the series so far, hasn't really missed a chance. Kept quite well to the spinners, even - an area where Sarfraz has been struggling recently.
 
Looks like Rizwan has been working on his wicket-keeping. Some major improvements so far in this series.

Neat and tidy and reliable.
 
much better fielder and keeper... Rizwan tht is,

sarfraz is good @ no4 bcz he plays spin amazingly well.. both need to be in the team but rizwan should keep
 
If Rizwan can improve his keeping, I'm sure he'll find a way to improve his batting.
 
Rizwan has been very impressive with the gloves this series. Especially against the spinners.
 
Riz keeping is better than Sarfraz against spinners but Riz bats like a tailender.
 
this thread looks laughable now.. rizwan is no where even close to sarfaraz..
rizwan would be the worst wk batsmen around.. even afghanistan keeper bats better then him.

Surely they can see that in the nets. But if they had dropped him preemptively, the press and fans would be up in arms (how can you drop Rizwan who has batted so well against Sri Lanka and won a game with nerves of steel). So they play him and then cop the criticism as to how could it be that a keeper who bats so poorly was not weeded out of the team in the batting nets.

Correct. He's average, but Riz isn't a batsman to begin with. I'd take Kami as a proper LOI bat, who can bat at a good strike rate and hit as well.

You're right. But, then we go back to Sarfraz. It's the same one dimensional lineup. Need an LOI WK/bat, which Sarfraz isn't.

Look at Buttler, de Kock for example.

I don't know if we have that person, but we should certainly look for him.
 
Rizwan is a good fielder and Sarfraz is not apart from that Sarfraz can bat and Rizwan pretend to bat out there.
 
Feel like Rizwan is better than Sarfraz in the primary job which is wicket keeping. But Rizwan is way below than Sarfraz as a batsman.
 
If you are calling Sarfraz average then you need to know he is playing as an all rounder (WK + Batsman) and his batting avg/SR is better than our most batsmen.

WK/bat isn't an allrounder, but it's about time we stop comparing the potential vs. our own low quality players. It's not the way we're going to succeed in LOIs.

Sarfraz isn't that bad compared to other accumulators, indeed. But we really do need someone solid for LOIs as a wk/bat.
 
Sarfraz is as good as Malik when it is needed to hit shots against pacers.
 
Awful serie for him with the bat,he is nowhere as bad as he has shown here.
 
Rizwan has forgotten how to bat. His regression is truly appalling. A bits and pieces player now.
 
Rizwan and sarfi are batting out of positions,they are accumulators,neither of them will win you match chasing at 7/8rpo in the last 5/10 but there aren't any spot available in the middle order for them especially if haris comeback.
 
Rizwan jumps when ball comes on to his bat. He really looks comical out there in the middle.

In Last 4 Fc seasons Adnan Akmal has been the best FC wicket keeper batsman averaging 45+ with the bat while scoring 5-6 Fc hundreds. Adnan should have been rewarded rather than Rizwan.

We simply need to stay away with "Akmals" He is 33 and I don't think it will be a good move to pick any oldie.
 
The last time we saw Rizwan was years ago. His keeping was always fine. Let's hope he improved his batting.

Sarfraz is batting like a tail ender these days. He isn't the batsman he was from 2014-2016. Rizwan on the other hand is fitter, better with the gloves and can rotate strike, also slightly better against pace as well.

In tests and ODIs neither of them warrants a spot in the top 7 of the batting order, but I would pick Rizwan batting him at 8 because at least he has fitness and can run. Sarfraz on the other hand can't bat, can't keep, can't skip nor can he run and be efficient at rotating strike. Also he looks more like 37-38 rather than 31-32.

Thats our traditional concept to get retired after 38 to 39 otherwise you start losing your fitness after 33-34, if we're looking to build a new young team we have to forget about these old lads, people talks about recalling Salman butt, Muhammad Asif, Hafeez, Kamran Akmal etc and on other hand they talk about lack of talent in Pakistan.
 
Rizwan keeping has improved. But when he made his debut and his 1st year in international cricket he has shown that he has lot of issues with the bat. I hope he has improved with the bat. We will need to see him over a few games to see if he has improved or not.

He didn’t miss one catch or stumping.

But these were his scores:

10,14,6, 21, DNB.

51 runs @ 13 and that was on tracks with ball coming onto bat, fast outfield, and flat pitches.

Rizwan was struggling to get the ball off the square. People here have short memories. Also he is as good as Chris Martin against spin.
 
Sad to see for someone (Rizwan) 150 is not even enough to compete 20-30 of other (Sarfraz).
 
Sarfaraz needs to watch his back.

There could be a scenario where he loses his captaincy of the Test team and loses his spot in the team.
