Shahid Afridi while speaking to a local news channel said following:

“I met the chairman sahab a few days ago in Lahore, The initiative about the grounds, the work done at the Gadaffi stadium, is pretty good and pretty beautiful. He has worked and he wants to work further. But he also says that he doesn’t know anything about cricket. When you don’t know cricket then you should work with good, technical people who have some connection with the sport."

“The faces we are seeing in the selection committee and directors, they don’t know cricket, they have all been bureaucrats. What is their relation with cricket? Why are they sitting in the selection committee? Why are they running the domestic cricket system? Everyone’s seeing the Pakistan team, you should strengthen the domestic cricket structure. If the guardian is good, the child will automatically be good,"

“He (Naqvi) said we are talking about it. I told him, ‘Sir, I don’t need a job from you, I don’t want a contract for myself but if you need me anytime… there’s no other place where we can change the mindset than in grasroot, through 16, 17, 18-year-old cricketers.'"

Whenever any former Pakistani cricketer says I don't need job or contract in PCB he actually means opposite. ECB, BCCI, NZC, CSA 90% times never had former cricketer as chairman but still their teams always performs consistently because there is a well established system & culture in place.

Pakistan cricket needs strong, independent, dynamic & unbiased personalities who can run cricketing affairs without any external influence. 99% ex cricketers are incompetent, they cannot even run kindergarten school, speaking 24/7 on media channel is their forte.

I am afraid Shahid Afridi may be back in PCB in some role in next few months

Alas! Naqvi spoke the truth, he should be charged for his incompetence
Jay Shah, who knows nothing about cricket, has been the ICC chairman, the president of the Asian Cricket Council, and the secretary of the BCCI. Yet, under his tenure, India won the Champions Trophy 25 , the World Cup 24 and even reached the World Cup final in 2023

Meanwhile, we had a cricketer as chairman who completely ruined Pakistan cricket.

Jay Shah has been a cricket administrator from grass roots , He was joint secretary of Gujrat Region back in 2009, then worked his way up in BCCI in 2015 and has 15 years of cricket administration experience unlike the Naqvi.

Well said. Jay Shah is a seasoned administrator who has been working in the cricket system for years where as Naqvi came to the top without any credentials an adjust because of his political affiliations.

Give naqvi 15 years he will have same experience as Jay Shah but your not willing to give him 1 year why? Because he's not a pti chamcha like ramiz

If he needed 15 years he should have started at LCCA and not PCB, that's the problem, incompetent people at top position

There is no competent people In Pakistan cricket your favorites misbah and ramiz were given a chance and they completely destroyed Pakistan cricket. Atlease with naqvi cricket is moving the right direction.

I can understand your hate for naqvi that he's not a pti man but don't be selfish for the sake of cricket

I love how Pakistani players declare they are always available to help the team but when it comes down to it they all prefer media duties and other duties.

Dumb statement by Afridi as usual.

An admin job doesnt require you to know about cricket because selecting players and making teams is not his job. That job belongs to selectors.

Admin job is to run the organization. Team performance cannot be blamed on Admin unless the Admin selects players and fires and changes coaches

Naqvi is at fault for bringing back Amir and Imad and firing and hiring coaches

You are right. Basically chairman shouldn't get involved in cricketing affairs. However in Pakistan the chairman has different duties, infact all senior roles like to interfere with other roles. Like Ramiz when he wanted to alter pitches, or Hafeez when he was team director giving spin clinics.

Naqvi should delegate more to a solid team and make they sure they are held accountable. Right now he has made too many knee jerk decisions under the influence of ex cricketers because I think he feels like he doesn't have experience so has to rely on their opinions.

Agreed. I’m not saying Naqvi is perfect, but he’s definitely been better than Ramiz and the others. Pakistan cricket has been a mess for years, and at least under Naqvi, we’re seeing some positive steps. If we give him some time, we might actually see a real difference unless there is someone better who can replace him.

Also, I respect you as a poster because you’ve always been fair, even as a PTI supporter. My issue isn’t with people who have genuine criticism of Naqvi it’s with those who hate him just because he’s linked to PML-N.

Politics aside, we should want what’s best for Pakistan cricket not behave like kids who just want a PTI man in charge regardless of performance.

He does have a point though.

You may not have to be a FC Cricketer to understand Cricket. But you certainly have to know the people involved in Pakistan Cricket and its past mistakes to know where the fault lies and who are the people that are fit for a set role.

Many a times now he has appointed people in PCB and Pakistan Cricket who were not fit for the role. But since he didn't know anything. He fell for it.

Why not list Pakistan Cricket Board on the stock exchange where the investing public decides on the Board of Directors and Board appoints the management and an annual appraisal takes place every year?

Afridi needs to be careful. I'm sure he doesn't want to be blacklisted by the establishment.

I don't think administrators require playing experience.

But they should have cricketing experience at the administrative level. This can be within the departments, ICC, or of course the PCB and then working your way up.

This is where Naqvi or anyone like him becomes the wrong choice. It's too much to learn on the go.

Exactly. Naqvi is a political person, not a cricket administrator by any means.
