LAHORE: Two men allegedly gang raped a woman in the city's Gujjarpura area on Tuesday night after she was stranded at the motorway.

The woman, a resident of Gujranwala, was on her way back to the city from Lahore's Ring Road — at the motorway — at 01:30AM on Tuesday night, when her car ran out of petrol at Gujjarpura around an hour later.

The woman waited for her husband and even phoned a relative. She called the Motorway Police's emergency helpline 130 for assistance. However, she was told by the operator that she could not be provided help as the emergency beat had not been assigned to anyone.

While she was stuck on the road, two unidentified persons arrived on foot from the nearby area surrounding the motorway and forced the woman and her children out of the car, cut through the fence around the motorway and allegedly raped her in the fields nearby.

The woman said that the men stole Rs100,000, jewelry and ATM cards from her before fleeing.

Pathetic stuff by the motorway emergency official.

Day after day we keep hearing such stories. Rape of women and children everyday.

Can't imagine how the victims pull through this and move on in their lives.

Shame on the government

A sad and disgusting incident no doubt but nothing to do with the government. By this logic, BJP government in India or the US government are shamed to the extreme due to the high numbers of sexual abuse in India and the likes of Trump, Clinton etc linked to a proven peado.

I hope these men are given death sentence and their faces made public.

No.

Everyone deserves a fair trial , if you go like this then there will be chaos and anarchy. Proper trial is Must , also must is strong and quick judgement.

Newly appointed Inspector-General of Punjab Police Inam Ghani claimed on Thursday that police have secured “evidence” that will lead them to the culprits in the disturbing motorway rape and robbery case.

“We have done great work so far in the motorway rape case. We have located the village from which the suspects were from,” the IGP revealed while talking to Geo Pakistan.

He also shared that 20 police teams were working on the case and are being overseen by a deputy inspector-general.

Ghani shared that the victim of the heinous crime had provided ages and other identifying features of the suspects.

“Right now, we have a very good clue which will lead us to the suspects directly. However, we cannot share it with the media yet,” Ghani said on the Geo News programme.

He also shared that police have obtained the complete voter list and record from the National Database & Registration Authority of the area where the suspects are believed to have hailed from.

The Punjab police chief shared that they have narrowed down the list suspects to 70 people who fall in the same age bracket as the rapists and who have a past criminal record.

He added that police teams were tracking down the people who fit the profile.

Police also carried out geofencing in the area where the incident occurred and are awaiting the report.

IG Ghani said that the woman's children, who were forced to witness the horrific crime, were now with their family, who have been assured that they will be provided all kinds of support. He said the victims of the attack would be in a much better state when the suspects are arrested.

Robbers gang-rape mother of two on Motorway
On Tuesday night, it was reported that two robbers had gang-raped a mother of two on the Motorway within Gujjarpura police's jurisdiction.

The woman, along with her two children, was driving to Gujranwala in her car when she was forced to stop at the Gujjarpura section of the Motorway after running out of fuel at around 1:30am. She immediately called a relative and sent him her location. He asked her to also dial the Motorway Police helpline 130. She was reportedly given no response by the Motorway Police helpline.

In the meantime, two robbers approached the car, broke the window, and took the woman and her children to nearby bushes where they raped her repeatedly in front of the children. They also snatched her purse carrying Rs100,000 in cash, one bracelet, car registration and three ATM cards.

The Gujjarpura police have registered a case, while motorway police spokesman said they had not been able to take action as the incident did not occur in the limits of Motorway Police.

Crass and irresponsible statement bro. Expected better.

Is this not true? PEMRA bans content it deems to go against the teachings of Islam. Our sentiments get hurt when UAE recognizes Israel and KSA allows Israels flights to fly over their air space. We put mentally challenged people behind bars for blasphemy. We go on social media and tell other Muslim women to dress better and tell our own people to make their children wear 'islamic clothes'.

Yet, look at what is happening in our country. Let's fix ourselves before we point fingers at others. Why do we chose to ignore the ills of our society? Mullah's raping kids in Madrassah's is not covered anywhere in the news nor is anything done about it however, shoot a video is a mosque and it's all over social media and there's legal action being taken. This is sickening. We tend to brush things like this under the carpet and react on small issues that don't even matter. This nation and its people need to wake up and get its priorities straight.

They should not only charge them with rape but also child abuse and indecent exposure to a minor. Multiple charges and then the death penalty.

Exactly. Rampant child sexual abuse in religious is not even acknowledged. Whoever tries to speak up against this horrible crime, they are accused of defaming Islam! Nobody in Pakistan is willing to acknowledge the 1000 forced conversions every year of Hindu girls.

As you said, this is a sick society! Our sentiments are hurt when an Ahmedis does animal sacrifice on Eid.

Yet, we have taken upon ourselves to lecture others on Islam and we act like we are the undisputed custodians of Islam!

Pakistan's law and order (if any) is a complete shambles.

The judicial system is so broke that it can not be fixed certainly not as quick as we would want it to be.

Would take a good couple of decades to see any changes that is for sure.

Unfortunately, you are right.

This is another sorry incident and shows how much work needs to be done related to law and order. We need police reforms along with social reforms.

There's also an inherent need for judicial reforms as it's one area that is swept under the carpet and has so many issues embedded in it. Judiciary should be available 24/7 instead of just 5 days a week between certain times and it should be accessible to common people.

When criminals don't rest, neither should law. The state loses its writ everytime a heinous crime like this happens. If the people are left to fend on their own, the moral reasoning of existence of a state just continues to diminish.

I hope justice is served for the woman, and I hope that fewer and fewer people have to suffer crimes like this in the future.

You can say what you like about Govt/laws but dont stain the name of Islam by generalizing it.

Many millions of Muslims in Pakistan follow this religion and would be disgusted by this incident.

Punjab government spokesperson Mussarat Cheema on Thursday said police had arrested 12 men suspected of involvement in the alleged gang-rape of a woman on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway.

Two "robbers" allegedly raped the woman at gunpoint in Gujjarpura area on Wednesday while she was waiting for help on the motorway after her car developed a fault.

A police official said as the woman crossed the toll plaza on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway, her car stalled either due to shortage of petrol or some fault.

Meanwhile, she got a call from a relative of Gujranwala, who asked her to call the police helpline for help while he also left from home to reach her. When he reached the location, he found the woman terrified with her clothes stained with blood.

The police official said two armed men found the woman alone, took her and her children to a nearby field at gunpoint and gang-raped her, adding that police had formed teams to trace the culprits.

Cheema said in a tweet today that Punjab Police and related departments were "working in close coordination to capture those involved in [the] painful motorway incident".

"So far 12 suspects have been arrested and search is going on," she said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari said that the ministry's regional office "immediately asked for an action report from the police".

The ministry received the report as well as a copy of the first information report (FIR) of the incident, she added.

PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif termed the incident "condemnable, shameful and saddening".

"This is [a matter of] national shame and proof of the paralysis of the entire system of implementation of the law," he said. He called for the investigation to be conducted along the lines of the Zainab case so that the suspect(s) would not be able to escape punishment during prosecution.

He also asked law enforcement agencies to work together to apprehend the suspect and get justice for the affected family.

Last night, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took "strict notice" of the incident and directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a report.

Buzdar gave instructions for arresting those involved in the incident as quickly as possible, adding that "justice would be provided to the woman".

Some of the posters here do have a right go at India being the rape center of the world (which it may well be) however the situation in Pakistan is just as despicable.

Obviously PPP and PMLN didn't do anything to root this out - filling own coffers comes first.

PTI have been in for a while now, have we had any comment/action from PTI leadership on how they intend on dealing with this chronic problem?

Pathetic and terrible state of affairs. The begharat Motorway police couldnt go out of their way to help a citizen. Only death penalty for these spawns of devil.

Motorway police told the women on phone that the area was out of their jurisdiction.

And even now the CCPO Lahore has the audacity to say k "ap teen bacho ki maa akeli nikal raye hai rat ko aur ap apna petrol bhi check nai karahi"

Next time any man feels like saying NoT aLl MeN or FeMiNaZi *****, they should bookmark this incident and read it till it's ingrained in their memory. I am literally heartbroken. This could be any of us. How the hell are woman supposed to feel safe in this ********. Many men say male privilege doesnt exist and then go out alone on the Lahore motorway and reach home safely. I am starting to lose my hope in this country and its justice. I want to see these ******** have their balls cut and then publicly stoned to death. But a few sad comments, some lamenting, a bit of victim blaming and then this will probably die down like the many other rape incidents before this.

What a garbage human being

So PTI Punjab government dismissed their 6th IG to save the post of this CCPO.

His above statement is actually worthy of suspension. The worst thing that you can do after such a heinous crime is to shift blame.

Sure people need to take precautions and it wasn’t an advisable thing to do in a country like Pakistan, but that is not important right now, especially for a police officer to highlight.

Absolutely sickening behavior considering his position and the fact that he said all of this on media.

Right to trial is a human right. These rapists aren't human. They don't deserve any rights. Heck punish their families as well for bringing up rapists. Might just prevent the next one.

KingKhanWC You are saying the govt isn't to be blamed, watch this video.

THIS IS THE FREAKEN CCPO of lahore who said this.

they had to change IG's for this CCPO! Imran Khan and his party should get bashed for this.

Thread going a disgusting route after arrival of hall of clown fame Mamoon.. by same logic we should blame all of the rapes from 2008 to 2018 in Punjab to PML-N. And similarly PPP in Sindh.

Heck there was a 5 year old burnt and raped in Karachi just a few days ago did Mamoon and Major blame PPP?

I don't want to get into this political dash measuring but when people are using a supremely unfortunate incident to drive their political agendas then they will be answered in same vein.

posters here think govt cant be blamed, but if the CCPO gives such statement and the CCPO is a political appointment than govt will be bashed. Especially for such idiotic statements.

The lady contacted the police. She contacted motorway police for godsake. If the jurisdiction doesn't fal under motorway couldn't they forward the complain to some other department that could had helped the lady.

The govt should be blamed here because the police force can't coordinate with each other. Why dont they have patrol cars on this section of the road?

Blame the society all you want but don't be unfaithful by saying no one is raising voice against this. Those same people who got hurt over Israel recognition are also asking for public execution of the rapists. Don't delude PPers into thinking that our society is ignoring such issues.

I don't know what legal action you're waiting for. The police has already caught 12 suspects and politicians are pushing to pass a public execution bill (atleast I know Aamir Liaquat is). What else do you want done AFTER the incident has happened? I can understand that this is a recurring issue but really, law enforcement can't fix this. The one thing I can think of as worst punishment is stoning to death to make an example but really, how far can law enforcement take this?

You need to educate the society and create awareness, not start a blame game.

The problem with most Pakistanis is that we love to be part of the problem and highlight it too rather than presenting solutions and improving ourselves.

Request to mods to kindly embed this tweet as Governor Imran Ismail and PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat have announced that MNA Ali Muhammad Khan will be presenting a bill in NA on 17 Sept. for public execution in such crimes.

It was tried before as well.... PPP and Billoo Rani along with some liberal filth in PTI opposed it, because apparently it violates human rights.

To hell with freaking human rights for a rapist and child molestor.

Really hope this time it gets through. Have to strike while the iron is hot. 2 separate incidents in the space of 48 hours should awaken the "zameer" of our lawmakers.

Aamir Liaquat has already said that he expects opposition from PPP but he rightly said that these kind of people should be the last to expect any human rights after such a heinous act.

Have you watched the video that is shared in this thread? Are your views about CCPO same as before (you were praising him a couple of days ago)?

I am shocked to see the views of a police officer who is holding an important office. They are beyond acceptable and I am sure you will also agree after you watch the clip shared here.

He is to be blamed himself for that. He has also dented the credibility of IK with this statement. I know that IK has no fault in this but he has given an opportunity to opposition to score points at the government and IK.

The problem with most Pakistanis is that we love to be part of the problem and highlight it too rather than presenting solutions and improving ourselves.

My statement is misunderstood. It wasn't not a dig at Islam but at the people of Pakistan who consider themselves the saviors of Islam and the best embodiment of teachings and value of the religion. These people are hypocrites. Time and time again we see the people who teach Qur'an are the same ones who molest kids. We see abusive husbands and parents who in their older life grow a beard and start praying 5 times a day.

The problem is definitely the society not the religion. Our people are hypocrites. Honor killings, rapes, child molestation are all swiped under a rug and the hue and cry is about silly nonsensical things that hurt the sentiments of these great Muslims.

Find a post on this thread where I supported this garbage statement of the CCPO.

At the time of his appointment was it written on his face that he is a rape apologist?

Sir, when did I say that you are supporting him? I am saying that you were just point-scoring at the poster without watching the video.

Secondly, does the govt don't do background checks which also includes the views before assigning him an important assignment? So some heads must be rolled, including the newly inducted CPO, who suggested this person to the govt for this post. Its simple as that.

Shukar hai kisi nay masjid may photoshoot nahin ki, Islam aur Pakistan bach gay!

He did not say anything wrong, perhaps, he could have waited to say the obvious.

We live in a world where vultures exist to prey on the weak out of lust, hunger, and greed.

In developed countries, such as the US and UK, the app exists to protect females while taking Uber, there are countless script (search on Youtube) to make the driver of uber aware that passenger relative/friends, etc, know they are in Uber.

I know what I've written will not settle well with many but not only we need to criticize and hang those who are responsible after a fair trial but also make our female aware of the danger and how to protect themselves and both required to be highlighted.

I see the opportunistic political and genrealize religiously-motivated comments in this thread - pathetic to say the lease.

are you really for real?

How is GT road any safer? At 1 o clock, even GT has less trafic. People also travel on motorway because in a driving sense its safe and smooth. Animals rarely come on road.

It is the states responsibility to provide safety, be it GT road or Motorway.

If this incident took place on GT road, this awaam would had said yaye aurat bahir q nikali the raat kay 1 bajay.

You lot will just try to find blames with the victim.

A rapist on GT road has more morals compared to a Motorway rapist right?

Read my post slowly, maybe then you'll understand, if you can't understand and can't stop yourself from assuming then ignore it.

I see some here are using this crime for their own political/anti-Islam agenda. Shameful. Note: this vile crime is nothing to do with religion.

you have said what you wanted to say. Anyone who agrees with this CCPO, they will find ways to blame the victim.

If you live in Pakistan, do make a drive around GT road at 1 o clock.

And before you put the blame on her for driving on reserve tank, that again doesn't justify the crime.

Read it again, maybe this time, you'll understand what I've written in my initial comment.

When you know that it won't settle with many then why are you saying in the first place? You are doing the same thing as the CCPO.

We all know that it is not safe for a lady to travel alone in Pakistan (or even whole world) and we need to be extra careful when we are travelling alone in the night. But why do we need to bring at this point? It was very insensitive remarks and any kind of explanation for those remarks would not help.

I am not sure if Uber analogy fits well but I understand what you are trying to say.

Read the first line of my comment and the last paragraph.

i once had my tyre burst on motorway at 3 o clock at night. Took me 45 mins to change the tyre as the panaa i had was not the correct size. The panaa i had was the one that came with the car. I had installed tyres which were one size above and didnt fit in the panaa.

Now during that time, it was justified for someone to rape me? Even if i was a girl, was it still alright? Even though not buying the correct panna for my car was my mistake.

Bhai, forget aurat. Even a 5 year old marwa who wanted to eat biscuits got raped. And that poor soul had not even crossed puberty she was just a child yet there was someone to who preyed on small children.

Now what was the mistake of marwa? that she wanted to eat biscuits?

stop making dumb statements that oh its not alright for a women to go from there but it is alright for a man to go from there.

Its the states job to provide security.

AND THIS WOMEN DIALEDDD MOTORWAY POLICE!!!!!!!!!! WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY?

Its funny how people make dumb statements and than say ignore it. Dont talk if you cant say anything good

And just because it won't settle well doesn't mean it shouldn't be said, awareness of the situation could protect many, although I agree officer could have waited to say what needed to be said, and I mentioned that in my initial comment.

You are still not reading it- you want to give another try?

You are making it seem like anyone who disagrees with your inability to read and understand while jumping to assumption is justifying rape - stop being pathetic.

I understand you have a political agenda in this thread - not going to fall for it.

Rape cant take place in madarassa aswell. Rape of any women could happen anywhere. Does that mean we should stop allowing women to go to school? Stop them from going to work? Stop them from learning to drive a car only because women can be easily targetted so to keep her safe we keep her at home.

Why not target the security agencies that are there to protect people? Why not make your people safer. Why not make laws againt rapist tougher?

you keep on making weird statements. You can point any way you like, doesnt justify it.

It is pathetic how few wants to further their perveted political agenda and make generalize anti-islam statements at the expense of someone being raped instead of highlighting what can our female do to protect themselves.

Let's face the reality, rape crimes will continue to happen, sick people exist in every society, those who committed crime should be hanged but after fair trial and at the same time we must also highlight how female can protect themselves - a simple and clear concept that exist in any developed countries.

O bhai, even 5 year old girls are not safe in this fort of Islam. Yaha toh murda auratay mehfoos nahin to kya murda auratoo kay saath mehram dafnai!

There is zero justification for such a crime.

Islam has nothing to do with it - your agenda has everything to do with making generalized statements.

I do not believe you understand the meaning of "justification"- someone highlighting crime and at the same time highlighting that we should make aware our female of danger and teach them how to protect themselves is not justification but you won't be able to comprehend because you are quick to blame Islam.

I wonder how a female can protect its corpse? like saeedhk pointed out, dead bodies of women have also been raped many times.

I dont understand what political agenda or how am i being anti islamic.

its pathetic how people do victim blaming and than call others being anti islamic.

You are getting good at assuming.

How desperate are you both that you both need to use corpse being raped to highlight your political driven agenda and anti-islam agenda?

again you keep digging a hole by saying women should protect themselves.

WOmen can wear a bhurka and they get raped. Children go to madarassah and get raped.

A women who gets burried in the ground with a coffin only gets raped. How should a women in a coffin protect themselve?

Even if a women or men walks nude on the road doesnt justify rape.

Saying taht oh they should be hanged and the women should not drive that path doesnt justify your point as your pov was made aware from what you wanted to say.

This lady minding her own business, was in her own car, even called the police. Yet you say she should protect herself.

YOu dont understand the point.

I dont know what politics or islam you see here.

In Pakistan men will rape a women irrespective to how fully clothed she is, whether she wears a bhurka. WHether she is 80 or 5 years old. WHether she is dead or alive.

Your point that women need to protect themselves are just absurd.

The timings of the comments are inappropriate. I don't know why are you adamant on your point. No one will disagree that awareness of the situation is important but why do bring it this time.

The first step should have been bringing the culprit to the task and once the dust was settled then the CCPO could have mentioned about awareness of the situation. Infact, he could have raised a campaign to make people aware about it. He is a professional who needed to act straight and here we are not questioning him why rape happened but taking him to the task for the insensitive remarks.

The timings of those remarks was not just on no matter how you put it.

You strengthen my point, even a female in a burka can be raped, which shows that we must and must make our female aware of the danger that exists and what needed to be done to protect themselves which is not limited to only laws but also make them aware of the surrounding and teach them tools to protect themselves - ideal world does not exist, in case if you are living in your basement.

Like I've said, and it is quite obvious, you have a political bias and it clouds your reading skills.
