I think it will be the last time we will see these two playing for India. They did serve India for good time, but looking ahead of World Cup 2019, they will not be part of it.
 
Yuvi was finished in 2012 itself.The India team has been so strong that they have been carrying 2 passengers and still winning but not everyday
 
Yuvraj is done for sure. Dhoni's and Ashwin places will be questioned, and rightly so. I would stick with Mahi without a doubt, but Yuvraj and Ashwin need to stop playing ODI cricket.
 
It's ridiculous they keep getting g selected ahead of much better youngsters. Also kohli as a captain has been atrocious, he is the one backing yuvi.
 
It was bound to happen, everyone knew that so many players are just in team because of friendships and past performances. Pakistan selectors have been doing great job introducing new players in the system. Hats off to them.
 
I have respect for both, especially dhoni.But india should bring in proper batter in this side in place of hacks like jhadev.
 
msd sadly does look finished one of my favourite indian cricketers a true gentleman.

his keeping is FAR more dynamic than any other Keeper. That alone is worth his place IMO. Plus his batting while not great anymore, is still OK.
But then you could argue that if India want to blood in a keeper, we are two years out from a WC, so this would be the time...hmm a lot of tough decisions to me made by Management.
 
MSD has to go for sure ! Yuvi wasn't lasting till next WC anyway .. Need more dynamism up top. Pant/Iyer etc HAVE to be launched.

his keeping to spinners is great.Against pace its decent at best

His batting has gone down too.Need someone like Pant in

Yep, time to move on. Thanks for everything you did for India, guys, it was fantastic. But now's a good time to call it a day. Need 2 years to blood the youngsters in ahead of the WC.

Dhoni played a stupid shot today. Pulled a short one straight to the fielder on the deep leg. Come on man you are too experienced to fall for this.
 
If Yuvraj is not bowling at all then there are several better batsmen and fielders than him in the long run ..

He stopped bowling Off spin and now bowls mixture of Off spin, faster delivery and leg spin too often. It is so easy too easy to pick him as his off spin and leg spin both have different action, different release and deception through flight is non existent.

This. Ashwin is a very good bowler BUT only in test.
Some posters lable his as "smart" and "thinking cricketer" ********.
Apply some pressure and he crumbles, starts bowling short and wide. Plus he is a very poor fielder.
He should be kicked before Dhoni and Yuvi. Adds nothing to the team.
 
Yuvraj only in the team because he is friends with Kohli, the T20 final in Bangladesh showed he is no longer able to cut it at this level.

Dhoni can't score runs like he used to, would prefer to drop him but at least his experience behind the stumps is useful.

India got exposed today. Top order failed, had duds coming in at 4 and 5.

Kedar not had much batting time.

Horrible team selection. Ashwin just back from injury, been poor in LOI's recently and weakens the fielding.

Bumrah can't bowl up top.

The best players team won the trophy. Pakistan's bowling attack has been outstanding and the batting clicked in the last 2 games.

At a stretch you could make a case for Dhoni continuing until 2019 seeing that he's also keeper and part-time captain.

Yuvraj - sorry, but there has to be some casualties after this mauling and he has to go.
 
Yuvraj is so late on the ball against pacers, he looks to back away and doesn't get into line easily. Unfortunately the chemotherapy destroyed him and since then he just hasn't been the same player.
 
It would be very sad to see Dhoni go in this way, after everything he has done for Indian cricket. Although it may be argued that it is his own fault for refusing to retire earlier.
 
I'm sad really, especially for MS I always loved his batting and calmness. One of my favorite Indian Players and a very humble person as well.

He was definitely risk averse today. should've also brought Jadhav on earlier. But to defend him for a moment, most of his bowlers were being thrashed. Yuvi is not a powerhouse any more and is also a liability in the field. It's time to make a change.

Finally, boy was Ashwin poor. The negative lines, the wides, the crap fielding and the ineffective LO batting- he needs to sort his bowling out if he wants to remain in the team.
 
Yuvi for sure.. with all due respect you've been a fighter, but it's time to go home.
 
Yuvi needs to call it a day. He hardly ever bowls now, he's a liability in the field at times and with the bat he performs once in a blue moon.

Moreover he'll be 36 soon and isn't going to get any better.

What's the point in persisting with him?

That Yuvi innings against England has come back to bite India in CT. A false hope and once in a blue moon inning was the yardstick used for his selection in CT. Worse, he has made it to WI tour.

Its injustice to young talents waiting in the wings for their opportunity.
 
Yuvraj is the most experienced and oldest player in the squad. He of all people should know when it is time to go. He should have ended after what happened in the 2014 T20 WC.
Dhoni still has a couple of years in him

Maybe even Rohit, Raina and Dhawan are too old and should be replaced by players like Nair, Sampson, Uthappa and Iyer.

Rohit, Raina and Dhawan will only be 32 in 2019. They are fine.

Anyone who is already well over 36 now should be under scanner for 2019. They will be really old by 2019.

You may have better results with 26 year old batsmen than 32 year olds. Also IPL should be used as a guide in selecting the team. I am confident that if we had chosen the best performers from IPL, the result would have been different.

I feel for most players Ages 28-32 are their peak years after which they start to slowly decline.

Some like Sangakkara just get better with age. They are exceptions than norm.
 
We have to decide whether these two can play untill 2019 WC. If they can't then no point in keeping them around. We need to give youngsters more chance, allow them to make mistakes, learn and be ready for the WC. I personally don't think Yuvi and Dhoni can remain in form till then. Time to give them a farewell home series and say Taa Taa.

Sanga is a touch player, he can adapt to slowing reflexes, look at his county highlights he changed his stance too. He is so intelligent and adaptable that he is able to keep him in form. Dhoni is a very unorthodox player, a brisky player and he just cannot afford to have slowing reflexes. Ponting had the same issue. People predicted his downfall way back.
 
One can say Suresh Raina was hard done by the team management. Deserved more chances than he got.
 
There has to be better replacements available before calling for change. I don't know what happened to Suresh Reina who was a good batsman middle order for them. Yuvraj I feel may make it to the next world cup if he remains fit and keeps scoring runs. Dhoni just looks past it in every way now. Just a few years back I remember those flowing long locks where as now he's all white looking like a grand dad. He has aged at record speed.
 
Dhoni stays, cut him slack. Scored a ton 2 matches ago, then a 78. This guy still has at least another year in him. Never had the most stylish technique or whatever but what his street smarts and craftiness that got him to ATG status.

When Misbah played an innings like this, 50 at a sub 50 SR Indians would praise him, saying things like it was a heroic innings on a sinking ship and I would always wonder if they were messing with us or genuinely meant it. But now that the shoe is on the other foot...

No, Dhoni needs to go along with Yuvi and maybe even Dhawan and Rohit. They had done their work, won a WC. The next generation of batsmen like Pandey, Sampson, Nair, Iyer, Uthappa etc. have the quick reflexes needed to shatter any bowling attack. Pandya is just an example, there are ten more like him. Pick the best ones from IPL and you have an unbeatable team.

The next generation comprehensively outperformed Dhoni, Yuvi and Rohit in the IPL. It was a mistake selecting them.

Haha. My fear is actually India dumping out the over the hill players ala post aane do series at our hands only to charge towards taking the next world t20 or world cup like with CT13

Most likely India will dump the oldies. Can't lose to Pakistan and not have a strong reaction!

We need to get the next generation in quickly so that they get some experience before 2019.
 
Very surprising to see that for the Westindies series India was going full strength and even the full bench strength other than Rohit and Bumrah.

This should have been a series to try some new faces like Pant, Pandey is fit again and other upcoming players.

Also I dont think Rahane is a modern ODI player and unfortunately he doesnt even try to up the run rate unlike Azhar Ali who was also not suited to the current era of ODI but changed his game and knows that he has to go at a strike rate of 80 which he did in his last few innings or at least got close to it.

No matter how the conditions are, scoring 50 or 60 at a strike rate between 50's and 60's is not acceptable at all.
 
They are Indian legends and should be allowed to retire and call it a day ON THEIR OWN TERMS....

‘Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni can’t be dropped like a hat from Indian cricket team’

Former wicketkeeper-batsman and the current chairman of India’s national selection panel, MSK Prasad has stated that there cannot be a sudden call made on the future of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.

The questions over the future of two of India’s champion cricketers have lingered on for a while, especially after the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and the West Indies series. Despite India reaching the final of the tournament, there were demands from the cricket fraternity for the selectors to take a call on Dhoni and Yuvraj. While Yuvraj Singh has stated that he wants to continue playing till his form and fitness remain, MS Dhoni has not given any over his future.

With all eyes on the 2019 World Cup in England, the calls for some fresh faces is getting louder. However, the Indian selectors are not worried, and Prasad hinted that selectors must be prepared before deciding on anything as the preparations for the next World Cup start to pick up pace.

“We will see, we need to talk on that. We will have to take a decision, let’s see how it goes. We all know who can add value. Again, we will go slot by slot. We should know when to take a call. It’s not that suddenly you take a call and you are nowhere. You can’t be totally unprepared, so we need to be balanced on that aspect,” Prasad told Wisden India.

Both Dhoni and Yuvraj have featured in limited-overs cricket for India in the recent past. While Dhoni retired from Tests during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15 in Australia, Yuvraj has made no such call.

Both MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh had mixed returns in the Champions Trophy. Dhoni got to bat only twice in five matches in which he got one half-century, whereas Yuvraj, on the other hand, struggled for consistency as he managed a little over 100 runs in four innings with one half-century.

In the West Indies series, both MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh continued to have mixed fortunes. While Dhoni managed 154 runs in four innings, Yuvraj notched up only 57 runs. However, MS Dhoni was criticised heavily for his slow knock of 54 in the match in which India lost by 11 runs.

India’s loss, on both occasions, had attracted a lot of criticism on Yuvraj and Dhoni. Until the final, the top-order consisting tournament’s top-scorer Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had carried the team all by itself in the Champions Trophy.

The final against Pakistan provided Dhoni and Yuvraj do stage an encore of what they did against England at Cuttack earlier this year. In that game, India had lost their top order cheaply. Dhoni and Yuvraj came together and smacked memorable centuries to power India to a win. However, in the Champions Trophy summit clash, both were dismissed without troubling the scorers much.

Hardik over Bumrah debate

The chairman of selectors, meanwhile, also threw light over the selection of Hardik Pandya ahead of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a consistent wicket-taker.

“Bumrah is good but unfortunately, playing here is like playing in India, it is another Asian country. The question was whether you required that extra seamer or not. That’s the reason we picked Hardik Pandya ahead of Bumrah, because Hardik can add value to the team both with his batting and his fielding. So whether we really want a third seamer (in the playing XI) in Sri Lankan conditions is a point of debate, and if at all we want a third seamer, he should be an all-rounder, that’s what we felt,” Prasad said

“Undoubtedly, Bumrah has done exceptionally well in the last year for sure. Last year in the Ranji Trophy, he did extremely well for Gujarat, won them the semifinal. Yes, Bumrah has the ability to play Test cricket. We will see what happens in future because we have enough away series coming up,” Prasad added.

Prasad says as a former MBA student and having gone through the pain of spending a lot of time away from the cricket field due to a serious injury and not able to inform the cricket authorities about the same, he understands the importance of communication and ensures there are proper channels in place. Under Prasad’s selection chairmanship, a few of India’s experienced cricketers such as Gautam Gambhir, Parthiv Patel and Dinesh Karthik have been given chances whenever possible.

If PK has difficulty dropping average players like of Shazad, Hafeez etc, it is incredibly difficult to call time on legends like Dhoni and YS. Dhoni is amongst the best 5 players ever to play ODI cricket and YS has been brilliant. The question is -who will make the big call?
 
I can't believe Uthappa & Pandey can't make it to this Indian side :facepalm: .. Should've been there ages ago.
 
End of Yuvraj Singh’s career, hints a BCCI source

Champions Trophy 2000. An 18-year-old walks out against the super strong Australians with India in trouble. He crafts an alluring yet attacking 84 to script one of India’s most famous wins. Yuvraj Singh became a name synonymous to the nation. While youngsters vied to reach his grace, young girls had his posters in their wardrobes. A topsy-turvy career for over a decade-and-half, Yuvraj was India’s hero in 2007 World T20 triumph and later in 2011 World Cup. Earlier this year, Yuvraj thumped his way to the limited-overs side and announced himself by registering a century. He played a match-defining innings against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy group match.

However, consistency eluded him, and when the panel of selectors announced the team for Sri Lanka ODIs, Yuvraj’s name was omitted. However, the Chairman of Selectors MSK Prasad confirmed that Yuvraj was rested, and not dropped. But the question lies: Rested after what? He did not play all the games in West Indies and was not a part of the Test squad in Sri Lanka. An official hinted that this is the end of the road for Yuvraj.

A senior BCCI official, who is privy to selection policy, told PTI that Yuvraj is no longer in contention for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

“His batting has lost sting. He rarely bowls and his fielding has gone down a few notches. If we have to prepare a team for 2019 World Cup, we had to take a call now. In case of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, we still don’t have replacement but Yuvraj’s place has multiple contenders,” the official, told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Yuvraj has scored over 8,000 runs in 304 ODIs, apart from playing 40 Tests and 58 T20Is.

KL Rahul is most likely to take his place and bat at No. 4, and Prasad confirmed the same in his presser as well.

Experts speak

Yuvraj has fought valiantly against the strongest of opponents and also beat cancer to pave his path back to the sport that made him an international superstar. The doors have been shut on the 35-year-old. Former selector Saba Karim indicated that the team was selected keeping the 2019 World Cup in mind.

“Yuvi is a fighter but I believe going into the 2019 World Cup, it is more to do with his fitness rather than just form. Look, there’s a difference between 20-over fitness and 50-over fitness. It was our panel, who got Yuvraj back in 2015 for the Australia T20. At that point, we were looking only at the World T20 in India and Yuvraj’s experience. But now it’s different. I believe Manish (Pandey) is a great talent and should be given enough opportunities,” the former India stumper was quoted by PTI.

Backing Manish Pandey’s inclusion, Karim added, “We have little over one and half years to the World Cup.The core team needs to get 40 matches at least. And Manish has done extremely well as India A captain. And he is perhaps one of the best fielders in current Indian line-up.”

India will be an aged side when they take the field in 2019 World Cup. Skipper Kohli will be 30, Rohit Sharma will be 32, Shikhar Dhawan 33, Kedar Jadhav 34, Ravichandran Ashwin 32, Ravindra Jadeja 30, Umesh Yadav 31, and last but not the least MS Dhoni will be 38-plus.

Yuvraj was a product of the Under-19 India’s success in the World Cup in 2000. Perhaps it is time to further look into that.

Aakash Chopra raised a valid point, “Unless selectors come out with a definitive statement on Yuvraj, you don’t exactly know their policy. Having said that, you possibly can’t have two 38-year-olds going into World Cup.If you have both Dhoni and Yuvi, you will have to make them bat at No.4 and 5. That will be an issue. If you continue playing someone whom you don’t want in the longer run and not give chances to one you think can do the assigned job, you are not being fair to both of them. Also we now have KL Rahul, KedarJadhav and Manish, in that middle-order. Perhaps, selectors and the team management feel that Manish can be the No.4 and look at preparing Kedar as a finisher.”

In all likelihood, we are looking at the end of one of India’s finest limited-overs cricketer. But with Yuvraj, we never be sure of the end.

Yuvraj's international career is certainly over. In fact, I think that his IPL career too is over seeing how he continues to let down his IPL team, no matter which team selects him paying an exorbitant price in the auction.

I sincerely hope that Dhoni announces his retirement from international cricket at the end of the Sri Lanka tour, and goes out on a high, instead of suffering the sorry fate of Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj is probably history after his non selection in ODI squad. Dhoni has been hinted by Prasad ( chief selector) that unless contributions worthy of an experienced Senior are not seen in near future, Dhoni may be history too.
There are some good talented players waiting in line especially ODI format like Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya , V Shankar and Risabh Panth , players from India A who recently won the triseries in South africa A recently..
 
I wish they kick Dhoni out at the earliest and give the opportunity to a youngster to solidify their place moving towards the WC and beyond. Would be hilarious if India go into the WC with a 38 year old WK whose performances have been deteriorating for the last 3 years. But unfortunately it seems like this would be another Tendulkar like sitaution wherein we keep carrying has beens for years instead of having better sense prevail.

MS Dhoni is not even half finished yet: Ravi Shastri

COLOMBO: India head coach Ravi Shastri on Saturday dispelled doubts about Mahendra Singh Dhoni's future, stating that the stalwart is not even "half finished yet" and is very much in the scheme of things for the 2019 World Cup in England.

Dhoni has been in top form in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, having scored unbeaten 45, 67 and 49 in his last three innings including the one he played in his 300th ODI on Thursday.

Shastri said that the India is set on the path of experimentation and rotation ahead of the 2019 World Cup but the 36-year-old Dhoni remains firmly in their plans.

"MS Dhoni is a massive influence on the team. He is a living legend in the dressing room and an ornament to the game. By no means or by any stretch of imagination he is finished or even half finished yet," Shastri said.

"If anyone thinks so, they are mistaken and they have another one coming. There are in for some surprises. The old dog has plenty to offer," he said.

Dhoni remains the best wicketkeeper in the country by some distance, said the head coach.

"How do you pick players? When they are good, and Dhoni is the best limited-overs' keeper in the country. Forget his batting stats, what else do you want. Just because he has played for so many years, you are thinking about a replacement?

"He is the best in the country. Would you look to replace Sunil Gavaskar when he was 36 years old or Sachin Tendulkar when he was 36? Dhoni is still the best in the business, so what is the need to even entertain those thoughts," he asked.

Shastri underlined that experimentation and rotation will be the key going forward as India will play in excess of 40 limited-overs' matches before the next World Cup.

He also endorsed the selectors' decision to keep fitness as the primary criterion for selection in this process.

"ODIs are where we will experiment. Winning and losing will not matter so much. Of course, you play to win but we have to try all possible combinations. It is a long way to go until the World Cup and we want to take one series at a time.

"Most of our players have played in this series already, and the endeavour will be to rotate the players giving everyone enough opportunity. So that when we have 12-15 months to go for the World Cup, we have a nucleus of about 18-20 players in place. And we can then choose from this group just before the World Cup begins.

"Obviously form will be important before that too, but the nucleus will be pretty much in place," he said.

Shastri further said no compromise will be made on fitness.

"We want the best fielding side on the park. That's it. So how do you become the best fielding side on the park? Fitness. And that's why there have been parameters set.

"My job is not to get involved in selection ever because I want my players to trust me. That's the job of selectors. They watch more cricket and they see it the year around. If anyone fits into their parameters, depending on their form, then on the cricket field, they are available for selection."

When pointedly asked if fitness parameters could see big names as Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina dropped from World Cup plans, the coach nodded in agreement and said, "Yes. When there are parameters put in place and that's the vision of the team, then everyone has to fit into those parameters. It is as simple as that."

Shastri's reign as full-time coach has seen a winning start for team India as they won a second consecutive Test series in Sri Lanka and now have already wrapped up the ODI series in dominant style.

The coach though has his sights firmly on the overseas schedule coming up.

"It has been a very good tour and the team has shown a lot of character. We were seven-down in the second ODI at Pallekele, and it needed a lot of character to pull off a win from there.

"When you are playing the same opposition so much, and travelling so much, it could lead to mental fatigue. The challenge is to keep yourself motivated and hungry. While there is a lot of limited-overs' cricket to be played in the next two years, at the same time, don't forget, there is a heck of a lot of Test cricket as well," said Shastri.

He said India have the potential to win all around the world.

"If you look at world cricket today, there is not one team in the world that travels well. Not a single one, but India can be that team. And we are already doing it bit by bit.

"If you look at last three years, we are starting to travel well. We won the ODI series in England in 2014. We whitewashed Australia (3-0 in the T20 series in 2016), and I don't even remember which team has ever done that in Australia. We have back-to-back series here in Sri Lanka. We won the Asia Cup last year. So this young side has already had a lot of 'firsts' overseas."

The likes of Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara are away in England playing out the last weeks of the County Championship.

Shastri confirmed that Ishant Sharma will be joining them soon, and added that he would like to see more fast bowlers as well as top-order batsmen make their way to the County circuit, especially before the Test series in England next summer.

"I am all for that. Pujara, Ashwin and now Ishant is also going, I think he is joining Kent. These are vital and key players in our team. The more players go, the merrier. I would like to see a couple more of fast bowlers going there.

"Zaheer Khan went there for a couple seasons to Worcestershire and he was a changed bowler. So I would love to see Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami going there, even if for short periods," said the coach.

"And why just the bowlers, the batsmen should go too. If they want to before the tour, be it Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma or others, I am all for it," he signed off.

MS Dhoni will play ICC World Cup 2019, confirms Ravi Shastri

Will he? Will he not? MS Dhoni’s Dr Jeykll-Mr Hyde form has kept Indian cricket fraternity guessing and speculating about his presence in the 2019 World Cup. Dhoni was brilliant in the just-concluded ODI series in Sri Lanka, where he scored 162 unbeaten runs from 4 innings at a strike rate of over 82. He also proved the fact that he is the best wicketkeeper against spin by being the first cricketer to effect 100 ODI stumpings. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri quashed all doubts saying that the team management cannot even think of removing the former captain. Dhoni at 36 is amongst the fittest players in the group and Shastri cited the same and his current form as a reason.

Shastri compared Dhoni with the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev and said his achievements need to be respected. “Where else will you find a legend like M.S. Dhoni? Dhoni is in the same league as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar or Kapil Dev. We have to respect his achievements,” Shastri told India TV.

Shastri has worked with Dhoni as captain in his previous assignment as team director (in between 2014 to 2016). The former Indian all-rounder replaced Anil Kumble as the head coach after the latter resigned due to his indifferences with captain Virat Kohli. Shastri has always been vocal in Dhoni’s support and lauded the Ranchi-based cricketer’s performance in Sri Lanka. He also hailed him as the best wicketkeeper in India in ODIs.

“A player is evaluated on the basis of his current form and fitness and Dhoni has both. If you see his wicketkeeping, he is the best in ODI cricket. His fitness is superb, he batted well in Sri Lanka. And let me tell you, it was just a trailer what you saw in Sri Lanka now wait for the movie. If he continues to play like this, there no question of not having him in the team for the 2019 world cup. You can’t even think of a team without Dhoni,” he added.


Status on Yuvraj, Raina

Selectors have closed doors on 2 of India’s finest ODI cricketers — Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Shastri assured that the doors are not closed on anyone.

“Doors are not closed. They will be inducted only after they are declared fit. I have a problem. The amount of cricket that we are playing, we need at least 20 to 25 players. It is very difficult for a single player to play all forms of cricket. Players need rest.”

Shastri has spoken to BCCI seeking rest for players after the Australia series.

“It is better that T20 is organised later, since there is hardly any time left between the Sri Lanka series and the South Africa tour. We have to win the first two matches. These will decide the fate of the series. Australia will get a tough challenge. Our bowling attack is strong.”


Sledge-for-sledge

Earlier, Mohammed Shami mentioned that India were well prepared for Australia’s sledging and Shastri backed his premier pacer. Hailing Kohli, the aggressive skipper, Shastri added, “An aggressive Virat is good for the team. Virat does not like people who do not speak straight. Virat is now fully mature. In cricket, you need to understand your rival team properly, Virat has learnt much and is going to learn more in the next 3-4 years. In the recent Sri Lanka series, we created history, we have to make a new beginning against Australia. If the kangaroos speak loudly, they will get an effective response from us.”

Does India have an alternative? Pant ,Samson are not yet ready for international level and Dhoni's calm head is needed for tense finishes as he has shown in Srilanka. It is true that he cant hit like before but still super-fit and runs pretty hard and still can whack some to almighty heavens.We would need him in 2019 WC.

The Sri Lankan mystery spinners were better than you give them credit for. Dhoni tacking them and rescuing the team in two matches was invaluable.

Dhoni is worth much more than the runs he scores. He lifts the morale of the side while rescuing the batting. This is in addition to his keeping where he is the best available choice in ODI and T20.
 
Dhoni coming to form against sl is badnews for indian cricket. He is a big liability in icc tournaments and has done zilch other than one good performance in 2011 final.

Sadly there isnt any replacement ready yet to take over from Dhoni. The only possible solution we have is make KL Rahul a makeshift keeper for next two years till Worldcup. Tbh we do need Dhoni the leader more than Dhoni the finisher.

Im not too sure about R Pant as wicket keeper. The other possible option is S Samson. The others such as DK, Saha are mediocre at best. So, Id stick with Dhoni till we have someone better coming along.
On Yuvraj, his career is sadly over now. He is liability in field and horrible with bat. He doesnt warrant a selection anymore and selectors have finally realised that.
 
I hope Yuvi understands this and may be BCCI can arrange a retirement series for him.

India do not have 'Culture of Farewell game' and hope it stays that way. Yuvraj should've known that his time is up and should've bowed out on his own rather than getting dumped. If you look in past, players like Sehwag, Dravid, Ganguly, Raina, etc were all dumped when they regressed. Indian players just dont know when to call it off until and unless they are dumped by selectors. I just dont want we start this 'farewell series' culture and miss the opportunity to experiment with youngster.

BCCI should just give a phone call or whatever and appreciate his service for Indian cricket(keep it low profile and behind the screen).
