Whereas there might have been many threads containing the highlights of the whole match, but not sure the that highlights of the innings separately have been posted anywhere - not by me at least. The rain interruption in the ongoing West Indies-Sri Lanka game meant that they were showing the highlights of the the ICC ODI World Cup Final 2011. It just reminded me of all those nervous moments when he walked out to bat being in a horrible form in the whole tournament, and how I watched each one of the 79 deliveries as if I was facing them. I have never watched an innings in life with more intensity than that!

Anyways, back to it, MS Dhoni´s 32nd Birthday may just be the time to post the short highlights of the dream innings that was which will remain in my memories for ages.......

I went so mad after that winning hit, the six, that I don´t even remember ANYTHING from those 10 minutes or so:)).

Strange to see a "Pakistani" go mad in celebration after India wins the world cup. Not saying its bad but its strange. :afridi

Clue is in his name. Massive :msd fan.

He ain't the hater type either so makes it easier for him I guess.

DHONI183 bro hope you don't mind me bumping this old thread but have been wanting to ask you this question for while so here goes......

Who don't you post about Dhoni anymore? Always had you down as PP's biggest Dhoni fan and there sure have been loads of threads about him in recent times - nearly all of them negative - yet no contribution from yourself.

This isn't a criticism or anything, just an observation and I'm genuinely interested.

Have you fallen out of love with MS Dhoni?

Very few cricketers in the history of the game have been able to live an impact in limited overs format like MSD has.

Not to forget, it doesn't undermine his test exploits as well, where he was again the greatest wkt-keeper batsmen to have come from Asia.

What memories those were. The video from the opening post has been taken down from YouTube but I still have it on my mobile phone as well as my computer. Can watch it any time that I wish to. In fact, I just did! :)

Hey Gabbar man, good to see you here! :)

No, none of that. Once I choose a player for such an elevated level of admiration, there´s no way that it´s falling down - unless the player in question does something really awful off the field, like murder or robbery etc.!

Yours however is a very sharp observation. You caught me! However, the answer is in your post itself. You see, the DHONI183 Institute of Research and Experience says that reading negative stuff about an activity that you love (doing) downs your morale and spirit, and spreads unnecessary anxiety and negativity, and watching Dhoni bat is an activity that I love so much. Look, he´s nearing the end of his career, he´s not the same Dhoni anymore that he used to be years ago. People have a lot to say, and a lot of it is justified too, but if I were to read all that stuff, I´d watch Dhoni bat so nervously, having thoughts in my mind that every innings of his could be his last before he is finally beheaded by the selection committee! Social media does influence one´s thought process, therefore I on purpose don´t even open the threads that discuss him. This allows me to take every failure of his lightly and in stride.

So the reality is far from it. You can´t even imagine the joy on my face and the inner satisfaction that I felt when he recently won the Man of the Series award in Australia. However, to then jump into threads to beat the drums on that performances will be hypocritical of me given my silence on his failures. So I let it rest. Also, I think some things are just best decided by time, and I think that four to five good scores by him in the world cup this summer might somewhat settle the issue. I´m not willing to take sides here, because on one hand I aim to stand by my principles and therefore not willing to call them wrong who´re against him playing on and on, but on the other hand is my admiration, a period of 14 years of admiration for a player who has meant so much to. So I can´t escape either of these realities, and silence therefore is the best remedy. I can´t see a better solution than this. If you´ve one, let me know!

The third factor here is that I´ve in general lost interesting in cricket. Here are the only things in it that awake my interest: PSL, IPL play-offs, an ICC tournament, an Indo-Pak match, Asia Cup and every ball that Dhoni plays - as long as it´s telecast on the TV. Apart from this, often I don´t even know what matches are going on. In fact, I don´t even watch the rest of the match once Dhoni gets out! So it makes very less sense for me to be posting about cricket when I don´t even follow it that much. In fact, it is the PSL and the rising tension between our respective countries that brought me back to PP at all, as otherwise I´m hardly active over here.

Good day to you! :)

Thanks for the reply.

On a related note here’s your man at a CSK training session this week. That’s quite a reception - for every naysayer like myself MSD clearly has many more fans. :)

Strange to think that Asian WKs have been so bad that Dhoni is being called the best ever with only 1 century outside India (on a Pakistani flatbed where both teams got ~600 and Afridi got 150+ at an SR of 125) and an average of 19 in Aus and 22 in WI. Surely there has to be someone better :13:

Ah´, the Chennai Super Kings, possibly my most favourite cricket team of all times! What a cheer! I just retweeted it. Thanks man. He has been getting such welcomes almost all around the world each time he walks out to bat. Reminds me so much of the days of Tendulkar. You see, when my hero gets so much respect around the world and has so many fans, what then is the need for me to discover what naysayers have to say on social media? This, irrespective of whether what they say might just be right in some ways....

My line of thinking may not make sense for many, but it works for me. This allows me to enjoy watching him bat.

Dhoni has been a poor test batsman. When talking about wicket-keepers, I'd rather give it to someone who was better with the gloves like Moin Khan or Rashid Latif. Also, Kumar Sangakkara.
