MS Dhoni´s innings from the ICC ODI World Cup Final 2011
What memories those were. The video from the opening post has been taken down from YouTube but I still have it on my mobile phone as well as my computer. Can watch it any time that I wish to. In fact, I just did!
DHONI183 bro hope you don't mind me bumping this old thread but have been wanting to ask you this question for while so here goes......
Who don't you post about Dhoni anymore? Always had you down as PP's biggest Dhoni fan and there sure have been loads of threads about him in recent times - nearly all of them negative - yet no contribution from yourself.
This isn't a criticism or anything, just an observation and I'm genuinely interested.
Have you fallen out of love with MS Dhoni?
Hey Gabbar man, good to see you here!
No, none of that. Once I choose a player for such an elevated level of admiration, there´s no way that it´s falling down - unless the player in question does something really awful off the field, like murder or robbery etc.!
Yours however is a very sharp observation. You caught me! However, the answer is in your post itself. You see, the DHONI183 Institute of Research and Experience says that reading negative stuff about an activity that you love (doing) downs your morale and spirit, and spreads unnecessary anxiety and negativity, and watching Dhoni bat is an activity that I love so much. Look, he´s nearing the end of his career, he´s not the same Dhoni anymore that he used to be years ago. People have a lot to say, and a lot of it is justified too, but if I were to read all that stuff, I´d watch Dhoni bat so nervously, having thoughts in my mind that every innings of his could be his last before he is finally beheaded by the selection committee! Social media does influence one´s thought process, therefore I on purpose don´t even open the threads that discuss him. This allows me to take every failure of his lightly and in stride.
So the reality is far from it. You can´t even imagine the joy on my face and the inner satisfaction that I felt when he recently won the Man of the Series award in Australia. However, to then jump into threads to beat the drums on that performances will be hypocritical of me given my silence on his failures. So I let it rest. Also, I think some things are just best decided by time, and I think that four to five good scores by him in the world cup this summer might somewhat settle the issue. I´m not willing to take sides here, because on one hand I aim to stand by my principles and therefore not willing to call them wrong who´re against him playing on and on, but on the other hand is my admiration, a period of 14 years of admiration for a player who has meant so much to. So I can´t escape either of these realities, and silence therefore is the best remedy. I can´t see a better solution than this. If you´ve one, let me know!
The third factor here is that I´ve in general lost interesting in cricket. Here are the only things in it that awake my interest: PSL, IPL play-offs, an ICC tournament, an Indo-Pak match, Asia Cup and every ball that Dhoni plays - as long as it´s telecast on the TV. Apart from this, often I don´t even know what matches are going on. In fact, I don´t even watch the rest of the match once Dhoni gets out! So it makes very less sense for me to be posting about cricket when I don´t even follow it that much. In fact, it is the PSL and the rising tension between our respective countries that brought me back to PP at all, as otherwise I´m hardly active over here.
Good day to you!
