PESHAWAR:
At least 30 people were killed and dozens were injured in Peshawar on Friday after an explosion in an imambargah situated near the Qissa Khwani Bazaar area.

Speaking to the media, CCPO Peshawar informed that according to initial reports, two attackers tried to enter the mosque. The police officers present on duty were fired at, which resulted in the death of one cop, while the other was seriously injured.

The blast inside the mosque occurred following the firing incident, he added.
He maintained that according to initial information, scores of people have reportedly been injured. “Senior police officials have reached the site,” the CCPO assured the media.

Rescue services confirmed the number of injured and medical aid is being provided and the injured are being shifted to nearby medical facilities.

Soon after the blast, a large contingent of law enforcement officials reached the site and cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal squad also started its initial investigation.

Terrible news, Our intelligence has to come hard on this.
They can’t stop these rats with suicide jackets as long as border is open, innocent people lives lost because of political agendas of Govt. Its almost impossible to stop a suicide bomber, I am guessing Australians leaving soon after this...

They will be leaving at the end of day one I’m pretty sure they will say we had an important discussion and we’ve decided it’s not safe. I am so hurt and distraught right now I cannot even express the enemies of our nation are cruel and inhumane as they come on the exact day they decide to do this. This is the deadliest attack since APS 2014. It is even more sad when I saw the ICC chairman just at the ground saying how big of an achievement and moment this is for Pakistan. It’s sad because they only did it because they didn’t want our people to watch cricket and be happy that’s how low and sad this is

Very tragic and disheartening. It is awful to see people being more concerned about the Aussie team leaving rather than 30 dead Pakistanis.

It is high team the world realised that Pakistan is an unsafe destination. We need to fix our home first and get rid of extremism. Then, we can think of sports. Unfortunately, the state of Pakistan is not serious about tackling extremism.

At least 30 feared dead, 50 injured in Peshawar mosque blast: officials

A blast inside a Shia mosque shook Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar area on Friday, with hospital officials saying at least 30 bodies were brought to the Lady Reading Hospital.

At least 50 people have been reported injured.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Ijaz Ahsan confirmed one police official was martyred while Asim Khan, media manager of Lady Reading, said 30 bodies had been brought to the hospital so far.

The CCPO said that according to initial reports, two attackers tried to enter a mosque in the city's Qissa Khwani Bazaar and fired at the policemen standing guard. As a result, one policeman was martyred while the other was critically injured, the CCPO said. Following the attack, a blast took place in the mosque.

Police official Waheed Khan told AP that the explosion occurred as worshippers had collected in the Kocha Risaldar mosque for Friday prayers.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast.

A witness Shayan Haider had been preparing to enter the mosque when a powerful explosion threw him to the street.

"I opened my eyes and there was dust and bodies everywhere," he said.

Evidence has been collected from the site, according to a tweet by the Peshawar CCPO account, adding it was too early to say anything about the nature of the blast.

At the Lady Reading Hospital Emergency department, there was chaos as doctors struggled to move the many wounded into operating theatres. The hospital has been put on red alert and more medical personnel have been called to LRH, the spokesperson added.

The area has a number of markets and is usually packed around the time of Friday prayers, said locals.

Condemnations
Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the attack and directed provision of immediate medical treatment to the injured, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also condemned the attack, saying he had directed the provincial chief secretary and inspector general of police to submit a report.

He expressed grief over the lives lost in the incident.

PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif offered condolences to the families of those martyred in the attack.

Strongly condemning the incident in a statement, Shehbaz said those who attacked worshippers could be "neither Muslims nor humans".

He also expressed concern over the "serious security conditions" in the country.

"Words can't adequately condemn the sheer brutality. Terrorism continues to remain our foremost national challenge," he added in a tweet later.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said terrorists had "carried out an attack on humanity" by targeting innocent worshippers.

He demanded that the government immediately arrest terrorist elements and their facilitators.

The PPP chairperson said he was saddened by the non-implementation of the National Action Plan.

PPP's Senator Sherry Rehman echoed Bilawal's sentiments, saying, "An attack on people praying is an attack on the heart of all morality!"

She also criticised the government for its "inability to deal with the danger of escalating terrorism in the region".

Provincial Minister Kamran Bangash also offered his condolences to the victims' families, adding that he was on his way to the hospital.

"May Allah bless the departed souls and grant sabr to their loved ones," he tweeted.

Rip to all victims. What are Pak intelligence doing as these terrorists can attack anywhere. Hard to see Australia tour going on after this.

Because they literally did this to get this Australian your cancelled of course we are saddened by the lives lost that’s the most important part. But you have to realize the timing of this incident on top of that these are very well pre planned blasts people who think anyone can wear a jacket and do a blast that’s not how this works. Enemies chose the exact target and timing of attack which sadly was chosen as today Friday prayers on the same exact day the aussies were going to play the first day of the test match.

This seems to be a well planned attack which coincides with the Ongoing Tour. First day of the Tour, also Friday when most people go for prayers and an attack happens to inflict maximum physical and mental damage.

While this is a terrible terrorist attack in Peshawar it’s more of a secterian type attack so I think the Pak - Aus tour is is no danger at this moment.

The ISI really needs to start infiltrating and targetin these local extreme religious groups who see Shias as their enemy and only want to sow hatered and divide Pakistanis.

Rip to the victims

Sad ppl are dead and folks are pointing to show its for a cricket tour to get cancelled. If they really wanted, could have done it day before too, it done due to Friday

So what will be the main motive behind it. As I'm not from Pakistan i don't have much clue about it.

Shia hatred. Shia genocide is real. In the last decade or so, Shias have been exclusively targeted by militants for their beliefs. Ordinary Shias and Shia professionals like doctors, managers, teachers have been targeted alike. According to estimates, at least 8000 have been killed in last 12 years or so.

During the height of sectarian killings it was targeted assassinations not bombs and these were mainly in South punjab and karachi.

Bombs are hallmark of Afghans including the current lot of rulers who have a suicide brigade dedicated for such tasks.

Since Dec 2021 over 300000 afghanis have entered pakistan over 200000 are without valid visa documents these are numbers that our authorities have tabs on forget the ones they have no clue about and etrugul warriors who keep breaking fences and making tiktok videos that they will reach attock Bridge.

Then we wonder why there is war and bombs in pakistan.

Devastating news after recent events in Quetta. The fact people are more concerned about Australia series ending because of this shows how warped our world view has become and how little the lives of Shias and other minorities are worth in Pakistan.

Imran Khan has failed to protect this country...

Where are the fans that bashed NZ when they had intelligence of an attack taking place back than

Crushing news. Heart goes out to all the victims. Sectarian killings and blasts at imambargahs were thought to be a thing of the past. Blasts of any kind in major cities, really.

You know well that this a perennial problem.

Imran Khans own interior minister said that they have the best intelligence in the world when 5 months ago they were doubting the intelligence report of 5 eyes.

Where was our intelligence report now? The ISI and interior minister should be answering these questions

Cricket is totally irrelevant in this matter. Our country is home to extremists with warped views and takfiri mindset that has painted shia as kafirs for many many years.

you have to look at the motive for the attack.....

The timing for the attack to happen matches with the first day of the match in Pakistan. The purpose being to get more attention of the world that the country isnt safe.

The target sadly were the shia minority group and they caught in this cross fire, but the target was used to fulfill the major motive

Exactly! Cricket is trivial is such matters. But, hey, everything that happens in this country is a grand conspiracy.

This simply comes down to secret service and the government. They should've known Australia coming down would mean such nefarious elements would try something to get maximum coverage.

If all this has happened despite heightened security and intel then I don't know what to say.

This is a very tragic incident but at the same time, all the good show Pak put up in recent years as a safe place (legitimately so) will be washed away.

I hope Aus give you guys a chance and continue the tour, just looks difficult to me somehow.

Yes perhaps...we can blame India Israel foreign outsiders etc for sponsoring the activities, but it doesn't change the reality that there is a dangerous extremist mindset in Pakistan that is ripe for exploitation.

Economy, jobs, education - provide that and Pakistan can curb it, unfortunately, the last 30 years of politician provided that to only their family members and that too in the foreign countries.

Unfortunately religious extremist was sponsored by the deep state and not these ***** politicians.

It is time to focus on the real point. Pakistan is home to a violent extremist mindset that needs uprooted.

India, jobs, politicians may be indirectly contributing factors but they are not the root cause.

In the 80's it was but after that no government had taken any initiative to curb it.

That mindset can only be uprooted with better opportunities, investing on the citizens of Pakistan, education etc, so that indirect contribution is probably the most significant contribution that past government carried it on for their own politics.

It needs to be uprooted by the stick and also opportunities but opportunities will take time.

In the short term, Extremist Mullahs needs to be dragged by their beards into jail cells. Moderate Mullahs need to come onto the TV and express their hatred for these criminals and put the conspiracy theories to the side.

I believe that can only be done after improving the economy, education and vast majority having confidence, at least inclination to have enough respect for the government that the government will invest on the citizen of Pakistan instead on the citizen of the family of political parties and that too in foreign countries.

There is no short term solution because that will always create another mullah and 10 other ready to join it on the narrative of pervertizing Islam for political mileage.

At least 56 people were killed and nearly 200 others injured when a powerful suicide blast ripped through an imambargah in Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar area during Friday prayers.

Mohammad Asim, spokesman of the Lady Reading Hospital, where victims have were brought, confirmed the death toll and said they had received more than 30 bodies.

He said condition of some of the injured is critical, adding that a large number of doctors and paramedic staff are busy treating the patients. Provision of medicine and availability of medical staff and blood supply has been ensured within the emergency department, Asim maintained.

Inspector General Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa said that it was a suicide attack and at least 150 ball bearings were used in the suicide vest. He added that the attackers were on foot when they attacked the police guards and the imambargah.

An initial report by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) confirmed that the explosives used in the attack weighed around five to six kilogrammes and were homemade. Ball bearings and other shrapnel producing material were used to maximise casualties among the worshippers.

CCPO Peshawar Muhammad Aijaz Khan, confirming the death toll, said two attackers were involved. The police officers present on duty were fired at, which resulted in the death of one cop, while the other was seriously injured, he added.

The blast inside the mosque occurred following the firing incident, said the CCPO.

Soon after the blast, a large contingent of law enforcement officials, including Pakistan Army personnel, reached the site and cordoned off the area.

The injured were shifted to Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital, where the condition of some victims is said to be serious.

Condemnations

Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the suicide attack at the imambargah located near the Qissa Khwani Bazaar area of Peshawar.

The premier also directed authorities to provide medical treatment to the injured and sought an inquiry report from the authorities concerned.

Former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif also expressed deep grief over the incident. “Pakistan, the country which got rid of the epidemic of terrorism, is again burning in the fire of terrorism. In this hour of distress, my prayers and sympathies are with the affected families,” he said in a tweet and prayed for the departed souls and for the swift recovery of the injured.

Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, confirming that it was a suicide attack, admitted that the ministry had no prior information about the attack.

“No threat alert was received … we had a meeting a couple of days ago but no threat was received; we had no information about it,” the interior minister said.

A spokesperson of the ministry confirmed that “30 plus” people have so far lost their lives and over 50 people were injured.

The interior minister, while strongly condemning the terrorist incident, directed the chief secretary and IG KP to submit a report. He also expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the bomb attack and expressed sympathy with the families of the martyred worshipers.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, while condemning the Peshawar bomb blast, said that an investigation into the incident was underway and the public will be informed about the incident later on. He expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“Peshawar blast is part of a larger conspiracy," said the information in a tweet and added that the country has fought such conspiracies in the past and, God willing, the enemies of Pakistan will fail again.

Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif condemned the suicide bombing and said those attacking worshipers can neither be called Muslims nor human beings.

He further that the deteriorating law and order situation in the country was a matter of concern, adding that he has maintained that the issue of terrorism needs serious consideration. “The return of terrorism is not a good omen for the nation,” the opposition leader said while expressing condolences and sympathy with the bereaved families.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari said that the attack would not have happened if "nurseries of terrorism had been destroyed".

The former president, while condemning the incident, said terrorists were the enemies of the country and the nation and must be eliminated. While praying for the speedy recovery of the injured, Zardari reminded that there was still time to fully implement the National Action Plan.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the terrorism incident in Peshawar in a separate statement, saying the terrorists attacked humanity by targeting innocent worshipers.

While demanding that the government must immediately arrest the terrorists and their facilitators involved in the incident, Bilawal regretted that there was no real implementation of the National Action Plan.

Yes, our intelligence is worst. And 5 eyes are TOP notch, thats why none of the terrorist activity has ever happened in EU.

Hope it will make you feel happy and you may have a good sleep.

Only a fool would compare the terrorism activities in EU to that happening in Pakistan.

Yup, bomb blast and terrorism only happens in Pakistan, rest of the world is safe.

Yes, suicide bombings on continuous basis literally happens in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Nigeria (Boko Haram). With Pakistan and Afghanistan taking the highest share these days.

Today is very bad day.
Om Shanti...Sad day for humanity.
Prayers for those who lost their loved ones

These sectarian elements need to be dealt with a firm hand. Imran sometimes gets undue criticism but he has been too soft on this issue over the years. You cannot talk with people who won't be reasoned with.

RIP to the deceased, too much senseless loss of life in the world lately.

Yup, bomb blast and terrorism only happens in Pakistan, rest of the world is safe.

Most country are very safe! Terrorism is largely restricted to Pakistan if we exclude war-torn countries. The quicker we admit Pakistan is a very unsafe place, the quicker we can go towards making it safe.

This is a tragedy.

RIP to all the victims and may god give their family and loved ones the strength to carry on from this.

And that is the job of the govt to control.

The interior minister who is sheikh rasheed and the isi are the ones that should be bashed.

Rasheed saab has the audacity to go the australian team and give a speech about how we are giving you presidential security. Bhai, what about the prople that live in this country. Who is gonna provide security.

Many people get angry around here that point scoring is being done. If you are not gonna critisize the govt for failing to protect its people than when dp you critisize it?

Condolences mean nothing as this is not going to be the last suicide attack and more are to come if we dont take of this is

To be honest, i dont believe its secatarian issue. If motive was to kill shias than i would agree. But in this case motive was something else and for the terrorist to decide who to kill they choose the people who they have issues woth ideologically.

If it was sectarian issue than more such attacks would had taken place in peshawar during impt shia days...

The govr will get critisized as it wants to do negotiation with the ttp, plus in the past attacks in pakistan were blamed on india that they are sending terrorists and the afghanistan crises was celebrated by us. Now with indian influence being 0 in afg, who are they gonna blame for this?

The fact that we blame india for this attack shows how bad our own security agencies are..

Irony. Your hypocrisy and ignorance has not limit.

It is you who is hell bent on point scoring while making your comments in a vacuum for nothing more than further your agenda to criticize one government.

Of course, it is a government job to protect and serve it is citizens, I guess alien concept since you are a billo rani supporter, but an intelligent person with no agenda also understand that security can't and will not be 100% full proof, while also understand that life has to go on with continue threat by terrorist and terrorist sponsored states surrounding Pakistan.

Happens in Europe, Happens in North America, Happens in NZ.

You are trying to sell your agenda wrapped up in ignorance.

So there was a motive to kill shia people, but because there was another motive ("something else" according to you), we shouldn't discuss the fact that once again shias have been targeted?

Makes sense.

It can be painted anyway a person wants to.

Motives are the main factors that gives reason to why something happened.

Its like taking a plane hostage do get someone release from jail. The people taken hostage wasnt the motive, the motive was to get the people out of jail.

If one looks at the date chosen for the action, its clear it was done to make sure the foreign tour doesnt happen, or to use the oppurtunity to get hype as a terrorist group by doing an attack and hoping for australia leaving.

The motive is to make the aussie team leave.

Sectarian hatred does exists in our society but sectarian violence has reduced.

To be honest, terrorists like the ttp and many other dont really pick and choose specific sectarian targets. There goal is to make sure huge group of people are targetted so that maximum kills can be achieved. This can happen in an imam barah, at a sufi saints dargah, in a shopping area etc.

Sectarian violence is a whole seperate issue. That is where already living people spread violence against another group.

Terrorists arnt active part of the society they are more of outsiders whose mission is to get maximum deaths

I don't think anyone is denying that the presence of the Aus team probably had some sort of role in why the attack was carried out, considering the timing of it. However, you are making it seem like the fact that shias were targeted is some random coincidence and not an issue in itself.

All of what you said about sectarian violence being reduced may be true, and good news if it is. But shias (and other minorities) have been targeted multiple times in the past, so if they are targeted again, it is clearly still an issue even though it may not happen as often now.

It's quite disparaging and offensive to any group of people who've been repeatedly targeted for attacks to always have some people ignore the fact they are being targeted and instead focus solely on other motives (even if they may indeed be true as well).

Never mind the cricket here. If the Aussies want to leave then let them do so and I won't blame them either. No matter who is behind it the suicide bombers are Afghans coming from Afghanistan which is why neighbouring Peshawar is an easy target. Until our military goes inside Afghanistan to sort them out this will continue. When we have a pacifist PM who keeps telling the world he will never fight then it only encourages the terrorists to keep killing our people.

Jamil, the police constable who was martyred while guarding a mosque in Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar suicide attack, had come on duty in the morning after spending the night in a hospital. Jamil’s wife had given birth to a daughter two days ago.

His name was written in the list of martyrs on Friday after he was shot while on duty at the imambargah’s entrance. The martyred officer, who was the eldest of the siblings, had gotten married a few years ago. Besides a new-born daughter and a wife, he left behind a one-and-a-half-year old son.

Khalil, the brother of Jamil, told The Express Tribune that his brother was very happy over the birth of his daughter.

“The whole village talked about how well-mannered he was … he was loved by his parents the most but maybe martyrdom was written in his destiny.”

Khalil said his brother was very fond of joining the police force. “Jamil was recruited in 2009 when the law and order situation was not good in Peshawar,” Khalid said, adding that he loved his uniform immensely.
Khalil said, “Our house was filled with happiness when this sudden incident shook everyone's heart … still our spirits are high and we are proud because my brother is a martyr.”

Jamil was stationed at Kocha Risaldar four times from 2016 to 2020.

Jamil's mobile phone was also found from the crime scene. According to his family members, the martyr spoke to his parents and family members and inquired after their well-being two hours before the blast.
“The martyred loved long mustaches. He had long mustaches even when he was recruited in the police.”
The Kocha Risaldar blast has been described as a major act of terrorism in Peshawar over the last two years.

According to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari, police and law enforcement agencies have been attacked in recent months, but “we have also had great success in breaking terrorist networks”.

According to the report received by The Express Tribune, from January 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022, 55 police officers and personnel were martyred in terrorist incidents in K-P and the tribal areas. “Thirty-eight were targeted in K-P and 17 in tribal areas.”

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department carried out 2,525 joint intelligence-based operations in which 124 terrorists were killed, including Abu Bakr, the most wanted commander of ISIS, who was the head in K-P.

Commander Bakr was involved in targeted killing of 24 policemen.

According to the official report, 65 policemen were also injured in the incidents of terrorism. During these operations, 11 suicide jackets and 234 hand grenades were recovered.

According to senior officials of the K-P CTD, the international terrorist organisation ISIS seems to be involved in the killing of a priest in Peshawar, the assassination of Hakim Satnam Singh and most of the attacks on police personnel.

Regarding the Peshawar blast, the K-P IG police also said that there was no clear threat regarding the attack in Kocha Risaldar. They are also gathering information about the facilitator of the attack and who brought the suicide bomber to this place, for “which footage is being collected from all the cameras of the city”.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has unearthed the terrorists’ plot wherein a suicide attack on imambargah in Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar area claimed the lives of at least 56 people and injured nearly 200 others on Friday.

Inspector General Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa said that it was a suicide attack and at least 150 ball bearings were used in the suicide vest. He added that the attackers were on foot when they attacked police guards and the imambargah.

Hours after the incident, the CTD said a suicide bomber and his two handlers entered the provincial capital via Namak Mandi and then headed towards Kocha Risaldar area using Kohati Gate to reach near the imambargah on auto-rickshaw.

Two armed men who arrived near the imambargah opened fire when they were stopped by the police before one of them forced his way into a crowded hall and detonated his suicide vest.

One of the accomplices entered the street with a suicide bomber wearing a black suit and jacket. While the fellow handler was dressed in white and his face was covered with a piece of cloth, as per the CTD.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also confirmed the development, saying that the authorities have collected all information regarding the origins of the terrorists and “are going after them with full force”.

Have personally been monitoring operations & coordinating with CTD & Agencies in the wake of the cowardly terrorist attack on Peshawar Imambargah. We now have all info regarding origins of where the terrorists came from & are going after them with full force,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

In a follow-up tweet, the premier expressed sorrow over the terrorist attack saying, “My deepest condolences go to the victims' families & prayers for the recovery of the injured.”

He added that he had directed the K-P chief minister to personally visit the families and look after their needs.

Before, Pakistani government and intel used to say that because India is in Afghanistan and India is closely aligned with the Kabul government, terrorism is being carried out at the orders of India. They peddled the narrative that if India and anti-Pakistan government is kicked out, and the Taliban take over, terror activity would be reduced in Pakistan. All lies!

In fact, since the Taliban have come into the government in Kabul, terrorism in Pakistan has gone up!

This happens if you encourage and promote terror groups in your backyard. There is no end in sight when it comes to terrorism in Pakistan because the government and intel lie to the people and they blame terror attacks on other countries. They are always misguiding people and deflecting blame. Till we accept that Pakistan has the highest number of terror outfits ( 63 according to the Pakistan Interior Ministry) operating on its soil, Pakistan would continue to lose their lives by the dozens. Terrorism is a homegrown and local problem but we are not accepting this.

The death toll from the attack on a Shia mosque in Peshawar's Koocha Risaldar area a day earlier rose to 62 on Saturday after five of the injured succumbed to their wounds, a spokesperson for the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) confirmed.

On Friday, 57 people, including a policeman, lost their lives and 194 others were injured when a suicide attacker detonated himself inside the mosque located in Peshawar's old city neighbourhood.

In a statement issued today, LRH spokesperson Muhammad Asim said 37 of those injured are admitted to the hospital, of whom five are in the intensive care unit (ICU) in critical condition.

Another injured person has been discharged, he added.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and investigation agencies have identified all three suspects connected to the attack and closed in on them.

In a video message shared on Twitter, Ahmed said the police and investigation agencies had done a “splendid” job, adding that police would reach those suspects in one or two days.

KP police chief Moazzam Jah Ansari said on Friday that the lone attacker, who was on foot, first killed one of the police guards and then wounded the other before entering the mosque's hall, some 25 yards away, where he detonated the explosives attached to his body in the third row of worshippers.

Police and witnesses said a man dressed in a black shalwar kameez shot the guards manning the main gate located at some distance from Jamia Masjid Koocha Risaldar, and then entered the mosque where he blew himself up amongst nearly 150 worshippers who had congregated for Friday prayers.

Jamil Khan, one of the policemen standing guard at the gate, was gunned down while his colleague was injured in the subsequent blast.

“The attack took place just when people were preparing for the main Friday congregation,” Jah added. He said police forensic teams recovered 150 ball bearings from the hall.

“At least six kilogrammes of explosives were used in the attack,” he claimed, adding there was no threat alert for February and March.

Strongly condemning the bombing, President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. In their separate messages, they also extended condolences to the families of the deceased, while the prime minister ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Late on Friday night, AFP reported that the militant Islamic State group had claimed the suicide bombing in Peshawar.

“Today ... an Islamic State fighter succeeded in assaulting a Shia mosque in Peshawar,” the group said on its Amaq propaganda site.

Even before the claim came to light, security officials were of the view that the attack bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State group's Khorasan chapter.

A neighbourhood in mourning

Koocha Risaldar, a largely Shia neighbourhood in the old city, has witnessed many sectarian attacks in the past as well.

It is located just a stone's throw away from Qissa Khwani, the street of storytellers, in the heart of the old city.

Moving scenes were seen in Qissa Khwani on Friday as the people shifted the injured to the hospital.

Women mourned their dead relatives in the narrow streets, while pall-bearers carried coffins of their kin to homes from the nearby Lady Reading Hospital. Almost all of them were in tears as relatives and friends tried to calm distressed relatives.

Soon after the news of the bomb blast spread in the area, the people, including women, rushed towards the mosque in large numbers to inquire about the well-being of their family members, who had gone there to offer Jumma prayer. The panicked people ran in the narrow alleys leading to the place of the terrorist attack.

The situation was no different in the Lady Reading Hospital. The people moved among the bodies and injured identifying their relatives.

Every house located in the vicinity of imambargah and in the nearby streets was in mourning as the residents either lost one or two members or had members seriously injured in the bomb blast.

The last major terrorist attack was also carried out in a mosque in Dir Colony on Oct 27, 2020, killing eight students and injuring around 120 injured as a timed device went off on the premises, where a large number of seminarians were attending a class.

Friday's attack was the biggest terrorist activity in the city.

The problem is in Afghanistan. Until Pak is reactive instead of proactive we are just sitting ducks with these terrorists backed by our eternal enemy. To end this terrorism permanently the Pak military need to go inside Afghanistan and finish the job. What is happening is these terrorists enter Pak then kill themselves together with innocents. We need to go and kill them in Afghanistan instead of on our soil. To make things easier we can send our Pathans who are culturally the same as Afghans.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday strongly condemned a terrorist bombing at a Shia mosque in Pakistani city of Peshawar earlier in the day.

Khatibzadeh said that the bombing aimed to sow the seeds of discord among the Muslim Ummah.

He sympathized with the families of the victims, and wished speedy recovery for those injured in the incident.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed hope that the Pakistani government and security officials will take the necessary measures to prevent such criminal activities by terrorist groups.

Local media reported that a strong bombing at a mosque in Peshawar killed more than 30 worshippers with dozens more being injured.

I'm a Pakistani SHIA, over the years we have witnessed some horrific moments but things did change after zarb e azab and even in our community most of the people are saying this blast more related to killing two birds with one stone i.e. engaging Pakistan in sectarian war once again and the canceling the PakvsAus series. But what makes me feel bad is that none of the deobandi, braelvi and ahl e haddes cleric have condemened the incident. They are quick to release a video for every little thing but on this incident it feels like they are least concerned and i wont be surprised if they are happy with what happened.

Being a cricket enthusiast and a patrotic Pakistani I will pray for the safety of every Pakistani and would love to see Aus leaving the Pakistan after completing the whole series with a smile on their face.

You need to start watching Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza’s video on YT. And see the true face of many of them haram khore wolves warring the cloak of a sheep.

Many many and of these fake religious speakers are THE VERY CAUSE of invoking religious fanaticism in the general Pakistani public,

Except for an extremely small number of true Islamic scholars we hardly have any genuine religious leaders left.

For you as a Shia, the good news is, here on the forum many of us have condemned this sad incident. And we come from all different kinds of religious schools of thought.

Do not expect anything from a majority of these fake Mullahs on the Sunni side. There is hardly one genuine one left.

Again watch Muhammad Ali Mirza’s YT channel. (Mind you, together with many Sunnis, he has unveiled a few of the fake Shia scholars as well)

‘External powers' want to destabilise Pakistan: FM

They arm, fund terrorist elements so that they can keep western borders of Pakistan hot, says Qureshi

HYDERABAD:
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday said that some external powers wanted to destabilise Pakistan by arming and funding the terrorist elements involved in the attacks like yesterday’s suicide blast at a Peshawar imambargah.

“They back such elements by giving them arms and funds so that they can keep the western borders of Pakistan hot,” Qureshi said while talking to the media in Tandojam.

He noted that the situation was worsening in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the powers in question wanted to create a distraction for Pakistan on the western borders.

Qureshi observed that the mismanagement of the Covid-19 pandemic by India had caused a setback to their economy, adding that Pakistan comparatively managed the situation “The textile industry of Pakistan has received so many orders that the mills are struggling to meet,” he said, adding that no textile mills, looms or spindles were closed in Faisalabad at the moment.

According to him, textile exports had stalled during the tenures of previous governments. He credited the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government for the growth of housing and tourism sectors and said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has also provided a relief package to industries.

The FM recalled that when the cricket team of New Zealand was scheduled to visit Pakistan a scare was spread and the team’s visit was cancelled. He added that in that regard he presented the statistics and proofs at a press conference at the foreign office besides handing over dossiers to the Secretary General of the United Nations, President of the Security Council and their foreign ministers.

Replying to another query, he said that 900,000 Indian army troops were stationed in IIOJK, adding that extrajudicial killings were happening under the name of so-called special laws.

“The occupying forces take away young men and after some days their dead bodies are found. There were also mass graves. All these are tactics through which they have suppressed the people,” he added.

He threw down the gauntlet to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to come to Muzaffarabad and present his case to the people. In return, he said, Modi should allow PM Imran to go to Srinagar and present his case before the people there.

“Then let the people judge who is right and who wins,” he stated. He apprised that he had written 23 letters to UNSC over the Kashmir issue and organised debates in the UN thrice since August 2019, the month during which India illegally annexed IIOJK.

Qureshi said no other leader of Pakistan had fought the case of Kashmir more eagerly in recent history than Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He asked the people to take up speeches of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and compare them with Khan’s speeches to find out which of the two leaders mentioned the Kashmir issue more times.

Commenting on the creation of a new province in Punjab, he said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was deceiving the people to whom he promised that he would create South Punjab province.

He told that some time ago he wrote a letter to Bilawal and asked him to join hands with the PTI government to address the issue of South Punjab but the PPP leader did not even bother to reply.

FM Qureshi said that the PTI swept 2018 polls in southern Punjab but PPP could only secure four seats.

Qureshi credited the PTI government for having taken practical steps in the direction of materialising its promises with the people of South Punjab.

The foreign minister elaborated that as part of the administrative actions taken by the PTI government, the secretariats of bureaucracy had been established in Multan and Bahawalpur.

He added that the separate rules of business had been formed and additional chief secretaries and additional IGs had been posted there.

The foreign minister said that the secretaries of 16 different departments including education, health and other public service-oriented departments had been posted in Multan and Bahawalpur.

"The region had been provided separate development funds which could not be utilised in any other part of Punjab," he claimed.

He said that the prime minister was planning to provide a fixed employment quota to the youth of South Punjab. Qureshi asked the PPP leadership to tell the nation what special measures had they taken to serve the people of Sindh which they were ruling for a third consecutive term since 2008.

The death toll from a suicide attack on a mosque in Peshawar surged to 62 on Saturday, while the federal and provincial governments claimed a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation, saying the suicide bomber and other suspects and facilitators had been identified.

“All the three suspects behind the deadly blast have been identified,” said Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed while lauding the efforts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and security agencies for a ‘splendid’ job. Police would trace and arrest the suspects within a day or two, he said in a video statement posted on Twitter after the Peshawar police chief at a presser disclosed, “We have broken the network and also accessed the family of the suicide bomber.”

The official claims came the day the counter-terrorism department of KP police registered an FIR of the devastating gun and bomb attack in which 57 Shia men lost their lives and 194 others sustained injuries inside the Koocha Risaldar mosque shortly before Friday prayers in the Peshawar’s old city neighbourhood. The death toll rose to 62 with the demise of five of the 10 critically injured victims, a Lady Reading Hospital official confirmed on Saturday.

Sharing details of ‘significant progress’ in the investigations, KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Peshawar Mohammad Ijaz Khan told a presser that the suicide bomber and his facilitators had not only been identified, but some of them were also taken into custody.

Barrister Saif said the rickshaw the bomber had used to reach the target had been impounded. “We have identified the suicide bomber, the facilitators and also arrested some of them in connection with the attack,” he said.

Other members of the network would also be arrested within 48 hours, Barrister Saif claimed, adding that the pistol used in the attack had been seized and forensic samples collected from the crime-scene.

With the help of the pistol and CCTV footage, vital clues to the attacker had been obtained, said Peshawar CCPO Mohammad Ijaz Khan. Police investigators collected body parts of the suicide bomber and other evidence from the scene, he said. “They also collected fingerprints from the pistol and spent bullet casings from the scene,” the police chief added.

He said police investigators pored over footage of all CCTV cameras within a five-kilometre radius of the mosque. They also geo-fenced the street and nearby areas, CCPO Khan said, adding that with human and technical assistance investigators approached the driver of the rickshaw, which was used in the attack.

The police chief said it emerged during the initial investigation that the attacker was highly trained. He must have received at least three to four years of training, he said. However, he added, the police had managed to break the network and accessed the family of the suicide bomber. “We will also apprehend the rest of the network within the next 48 hours,” he vowed.

A pall of gloom gripped Peshawar on Saturday, a day after several worshippers were martyred and scores wounded in a suicide bombing at an imambargah in the city, while six more injured succumbed to their wounds, pushing the death toll of the deadly attack to 63.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid claimed that three attackers had been identified in the bombing at the imambargah in the city’s Kocha Risaldar area that injured nearly 200 others.

The imambargah was targeted by multiple attackers, one of whom shot the police guards at the entrance to a packed mosque at Peshawar's historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar. Later, one of them entered the mosque and detonated his explosives-laden vest in the middle of worshippers offering Friday prayers.

The spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital said multiple victims were still in critical condition and the medical facility was treating 37 people for blast-related injuries.

The interior minister said the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police and investigation agencies had carried out an “excellent” job and had identified the assailants soon after the horrific attack.

"Police will get to the accused in a day or two, but we have totally identified them," he added.
The Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) of the provincial capital also registered a case regarding the suicide attack, claiming that it had unearthed the terrorists’ plot.

A statement – at the instigation of the Khan Raziq police station SHO – was sent to the CTD about the suicide attack.

The statement read that a case had been registered at the police station on the complaint of Khan Raziq’s SHO, and terrorism provisions were included in the FIR.

The SHO had checked the security of the mosque and went to a side street when he heard gunshots. When the SHO returned to the mosque, the explosion had already taken place and police personnel were injured, the statement added.

It said that the assailant was in black clothes, on foot and carrying a pistol which he fired first at the police officers. The attackers have been charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorism.

The K-P police chief said at least 150 ball bearings were used in the suicide vest. He added that the attackers were on foot when they attacked police guards and worshippers in the imambargah.

Hours after the incident, the CTD said a suicide bomber and his two handlers entered the provincial capital via Namak Mandi and then headed towards Kocha Risaldar area using Kohati Gate to reach near the imambargah in a rickshaw.

In a follow-up tweet, the premier expressed sorrow over the terrorist attack saying: “My deepest condolences go to the victims' families & prayers for the recovery of the injured.”

He added that he had directed the K-P chief minister to personally visit the families and look after their needs.

The funeral prayers of at least 25 martyrs were offered in the provincial capital and were attended by a large number of people from across the city. Collective funeral prayers of 14 martyrs were offered at Kohati Chowk. The funeral prayers for five other victims were offered outside Kohati Gate. The funeral prayers of two of the deceased were offered at Hussainiya Hall.

The militant Islamic State (IS) in a statement claimed responsibility for the deadly bomb blast.

Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, while expressing sympathy with the victims of the Peshawar imambargah blast, condemned the terrorist attack. “There is no justification for attacking civilians and worshipers. We express our deepest condolences to all the victims of the incident,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Speaking to reporters in Peshawar, Special Assistant to K-P Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, alongside Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Ijaz Khan, maintained that the blast had not occurred because of the negligence of the government or any law enforcement agency.

“Intelligence agencies have collected evidence and hopefully the culprits and network of the attackers would be identified in the next 48 hours,” he added.

Briefing the media on the occasion, the city’s police official said the suicide bomber had been identified and investigative teams had reached out to his family.

He added that the bomber was originally from Afghanistan and had been living in Pakistan for decades.
The CCPO said a team comprising personnel of the CTD, Peshawar police and intelligence agencies had obtained important evidence from the scene.

“The evidence collected from the scene included the bomber’s body parts, fingerprints, etc. Bullet shells from the pistol used by the attacker have also been found.”

The official said a National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) team was called to the scene and identification of the suicide bomber and his facilitators had started.

“The rickshaw driver has also been tracked down using human intelligence.

TTP is responsible for this attack.

Read Hamid Mir's article in the Washington Post where he describes dozens of meetings between Imran Khan and TTP where he pleads with them to stop the attacks. TTP say they will not stop unless pure sharia law is imposed in the whole of Pakistan.

Pakistan’s past support for the Afghan Taliban isn’t paying off
By Hamid Mir
February 8, 2022

In November, the TTP agreed to secret talks and declared a one-month cease-fire. When Islamabad started its new round of negotiations with the group, I wrote that this was the seventh time the Pakistani state had tried talking with the TTP. Islamabad’s previous six agreements with the group had come to nothing.

The TTP presented a difficult list of conditions. Its leaders demanded the release of a long list of prisoners; it’s not clear whether the Pakistani government ever delivered. The TTP also declared that it wanted to open a political office in a third country (which would amount to a form of recognition for an organization that is banned in Pakistan). Most problematic of all, TTP negotiators demanded the implementation of Islamic sharia law in Pakistan — which meant they were not ready to accept the current constitution, which is based on democratic principles. What the TTP was demanding, in short, was the self-abolition of the state — a surrender agreement, in effect.

Because India wants to implement Sharia law in Pakistan.
TTP is funded by India.

The attack was carried out by an afghan refugee whose family migrated to pakistan and he lived in pakistan.

Isis have also issued his name as al kabuli or something.

Keeping inviting more of these namak harams in our country and effecting our security, resources and demographics

This bombers family should be executed because radicalisation usually begins in how you are bought up , and these Afghans and tribals have a vicious racist nazi type hatred towards gul khan pashtuns of kpk and punjabis

Can you plz post the reference link of what you are claiming, if that is true thats alarming because there are plenty of Afghan Refugees in Pakistan, how will our security agencies differenciate between bombers and genuine refugees? :altaf

Aftab Nazir of banned SSP has released a video asking people not to call Shias who died in Peshawar as shaheed (martyrs) since Shia are kafirs ( non-Muslims).

When I say that extremists are in control pf Pakistan, people refuse to admit it. Almost month there is a rally by banned SSP and ASWJ where they lead chants such as Shias are kafirs in front of frenzied crowds. One such gathering of SSP was held in Islamabad in which DC Islamabad was among the attendees.

Despite constant hate speech and call for violence, mullahs and their ilk are never arrested because they are above the state.

As I have said a million times before, the state has absolutely ZERO interest and will to eradicate terrorism and mass radicalisation.

By assuming they are all namak haramis if the poster you are quoting is not talking rubbish. But then he's saying the bomber's family should be executed so he's more than likely just a troll signing up to talk rubbish.

The bomb was an attempt to get the Australian tour called off, looks like it failed. Thankfully the terrorists and their sponsors from not that far away failed this time.

No end in sight.

Gunmen attack Ahmedi clinic in Peshawar, one killed

More heartbreaking than the attack itself is the total blackout of such news when Ahmedis are targeted. In fact, a very large majority celebrate such news. Sickening!

The UN Security Council said on Sunday that all acts of terrorism were criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, and urged all UN member states to cooperate with Pakistan in catching those responsible for the latest attack on a Shia mosque in Peshawar.

The attack, carried out during Friday prayers, resulted in the death of at least 62 people and injuries to dozens more. The militant Islamic State group, better known by its acronym ISIL-K, claimed responsibility for the attack.

UN Secretary Gene*ral Antonio Guterres was among the first to condemn the attack, noting in a tweet that “houses of worship should be havens, not targets”.

“I condemn the horrific attack on a mosque in Pesh*awar during Friday prayers. My condolences to those who lost loved ones, and my solidarity with the people of Pakistan,” he wrote.

The US State Department also issued a similar statement, describing the attack as “horrific” and conveying “sincere condolences” to the victims’ families and friends. “The United States mourns in solidarity with Pakistan,” the statement added.

The strongest reaction, however, came from the UN Security Council, which not only condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the victims’ families but also addressed the core issue: hiding behind various issues to justify terrorism.

“The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,” said the statement signed by the council’s current president Lana Zaki Nusseibeh of the United Arab Emirates.

“They reaffirmed the need for all States to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations, … threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts,” the statement added.

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

They underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to “cooperate actively with the government of Pakistan and all other relevant authorities in this regard”.
