Najam Sethi does not want to be a 'bone of contention' and pulls out of race to be PCB chairman

The Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee met today under the Chairmanship of Mr Najam Sethi at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in which it approved the composition of the Board of Governors.

The composition is as follows:

• Two PCB Patron nominees
• Four regional representatives i.e. Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi
• Four department/service organisation representatives i.e. Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Khan Research Laboratory (KRL)

Upon the notification of the BOG members, the Management Committee shall stand dissolved and the PCB Election Commissioner shall assume the powers of the Chairman till the elections are held.

Zaka has said earlier that he sees no reason for Pakistan not to play the WC. I guess we can be rest assured about their participation now.

Zaka also mentioned that he will make sure the entire Asia Cup is held in Pakistan, playing in neutral territory is not an option. If India refuses to come to Pakistan then so be it. Let's see if there is a change in the PCB stance now. Zaka was also taking the BCCI head on in the Big 3 saga in 2014.

Nope. If was taking them head on, he would not have abstained. he would have voted no.

Walked before he was pushed?

More respectable way to go. Unlike Ramiz being kicked out at 2:00am in the morning with all of his possessions deposited in the safe storage

What a shame, I was hoping to see a Sethi special in the stands

Sethi has been kicked out and not for the first time.

Election Commissioner Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana assumes charge as Acting Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

More confusion

==

The PCB management committee announced eight governing board members in yesterday's meeting.

However, the Ministry of Interprovincial Affairs stated that the committee's term concluded at 0:00am on the 20th of June, invalidating its decisions. Moreover, it is expected that the individuals announced as governing board members will not be accepted.

The Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission and Acting Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed as per a report, that he had directed the legal department to evaluate the current situation and meet him on Wednesday morning to address the matter. Following this, a certain future action plan will be devised.

So some confusion but seems Najam Sethi did have the authority to make those decisions on 20th because in his view the committee still had life until 21st

If Sethi's term was to end midnight on 20th June then any decisions before that were surely valid.

But in Pakistan cricket, you just never know.

As per a media report:

Najam Sethi visited NCA and told the people there "Prepare yourselves for extended office hours," alluding to Zaka Ashraf's tendency to work till late at night after arriving in the afternoon.

There is a potential for a legal battle to challenge Sethi's removal

Apparently some PCB employees have pledged loyalty to Sethi, but have also maintained contact with Zaka Ashraf to safeguard their positions regardless of who assumes the chairman role with some officials wanting Ramday to be elected as chairman.

There were also alleged efforts to strategically place "own people" within the BOG (Board of Governors), as it will be easier to bring a change in leadership through a motion of no confidence following the general elections.

My suggestion is for all to get their popcorn ready - this is not over - it could well be a 3-way fight between Sethi/Zaka and Ramiz throwing in his 2 cents also.
