Naseem Shah: The gem we don’t deserve

Bro Naseem has a 5fr in Australia and in home conditions. Is a good fielder and has won matches with the bat with slogging. I have never seen Rana do any of those even in IPL. Obviously Naseem may not last long due to mismanagement and his own indiscipline or Rana can have a resurgence and be a top star. As of today where it stands, Naseem is way ahead of Rana.
lol. Naseem has absolutely nothing to show in the international cricket.

Everyone knows how badly he has struggled in international cricket against the top teams. If he is dominating domestic cricket so easily, then it is only clear that our domestic cricket standards are very poor and stats from our domestic cricket cannot be relied upon.

I agree but these guys need to play entire seasons. Continuous improvement in county cricket, building bowling muscle memory had a lot to do with success of our older fast bowlers…

Guys like Naseem and Shaheen are yet to play complete domestic seasons and have power repeatability and muscle memory

Naseem’s sole goal should be to play this entire season and work on his fitness.

My bad. Has a 4fr vs Australia at home. Having said that I will stick to my statement that currently he is better than Rana. Now I don’t know in his comeback he looks out of shape and average. 👍

See, this is the problem with you. You neither remember events nor look at the stats, and you just post anything. Do you even remember how brutally Pakistan was beaten when Naseem toured Australia?

So please stop posting as if you are sitting in your friend circle, where you would be the most knowledgeable cricket fan and others won't correct you. We are all cricket nerds here. There is no mercy when you get the facts wrong.

Rana actually was instrumental in the Perth win taking out Travis Head.

Also was good in the CT in the two games he played. Because the NZ game was a dead rubber India put in Varun and then he was great in both KOs.

Absolutely. He has lost pace, isn't tall and hasnt really developed any skills to take wickets on a consistent basis

I just remember Naseem Shah being a threatening bowler: good pace, skills and a very fit fielder and useful slogger down the order with good batting temparament. I rate him. Don’t care for stats.

Rana is trash as well like Naseem. He is far from international class as of now…

He might turn a corner like ishant Sharma but at present he is a bowler who teams would smack around for fun

On his first tour to Australia he was threatening and pacy. Looked amazing for a teenager but his current version is a shadow of himself. Unable to sustain pace, unable to control line and too short to go with it.

Fitness wise he’s a potato right now

Thanks for proving me right
The next marquee match Pakistan will win be either either some tournament final or some big overseas test match it will have the Naseem Shah stamp. Bookmark this.

Also weren’t you the same guy who thought Azam Khan was the second coming of Chris Gayle and Md Haris the second coming of Gilchrist? I rest my case.

Anyone with 2 eyes can see Naseem’s natural potential. Too bad he hasn’t delivered yet. If handled carefully he will go a long way. I don’t think that’s the dumbest assessment in the world 🤷‍♂️

Is this the 35 averaging Naseem you are talking about?

One who has already played 80 international matches?

Naseem needs to work on his fitness first... He looks like a swollen guy.. He is talented and sometimes he get unlucky when we see that wickets column but now his fitness is below par...

So basically never.

I pointed this out a couple years ago. He has looked overweight for a while

Fitness is part of it. Especially when it comes to coming back and bowling second and third spells in test matches, but since returning back from injury Naseem has just looked like a different bowler. He has lacked bite, control and the ability to strike upfront. I think back to 2023, prior to the World Cup and he was looking like one of the best bowlers in the world based on form, which is why his injury was such a massive blow to Pakistan's World Cup campaign. Even in 2022 in the WT20 Final at Melbourne, he was bowling like a dream and made England scratch and claw for every run of that paltry 140+ total.

I have seen many bowlers like that ..The aggressive bites but no real venom and nothing happens..

2022 Wt20 is the match where his figures were 4 overs, 30 runs, 0 wickets in a match where RRR was 7?

Where Afridi's figures were 1 for 13?

A player who failed to take a single wicket in such a low scoring chase is bowling like a dream?

This is exactly how the fake hype around this bowler has been built consistently. He "looks" good while bowling while his figures remain the same year after year.

Naseem Shah must have the best PR agency in the world

First over, Afridi took a wicket and gave 7 runs.

Second over Naseem Shah gave 14 runs.

Then Rauf took another wicket and pulled things back in power play. After 4 overs england 32 for 2.

Naseem came back in 5th over and gave 11 runs.

Rauf then took another wicket in the 6th over.

So his figures in power play read , 2 overs, 25 runs, 0 wickets. This is when target was 138.

The match was already dead in the powerplay thanks to Naseem. England then taking it easy because it was a final and sauntering to the target with 5 wickets in hand, doesn't make Naseem Shah bowl like a dream.

I will never ever understand how the fake hype around this bowler was built to this extent. This is a prime example of the fake hype.

Yeah... Naseem has not improved even 1% since he made his debut... This is what I think.

I see zero improvement in his technique, line o length etc

Naseem Shah should hire Abdul Rauf (Former Pakistan Fast Bowler) as his personal coach for 3-6 months and utilise LUMS Biomechanics facilities.

He needs to fix his landing. His left foot points towards deep fine leg while it should land perpendicular at 90 °.

This would make him more accurate and faster and aid outswing.

He has not been able to fix this issue in last 4-5 years which is a disaster.

And also get back into shape.

With his height Naseem will fire when he bowls at 150 kph with accuracy. Naseem Shah at Under 19 level Vs SA Under 19 was bowling faster than what he is bowling today.

First of all, I never said either of them was the second coming of any legend. I have supported only one of them because I feel he is overly trolled and people tend to discredit his league performances.

You can predict whatever you want about Naseem, but the discussion here was about what he has achieved. You posted something that was factually incorrect and I simply pointed that out. The posters here are quite knowledgeable and I am not saying you aren’t. But it’s clear that you sometimes form opinions based on feelings rather than facts and occasionally refer to events that never actually happened. When confronted, you often struggle to defend your position.

Figures don't tell the full story. It was a fantastic spell in a losing cause.

Which spell? Surely his initial spell where he was leaking runs while others were taking wickets was not the one? So which spell?
I thought it was a good spell, you thought it wasn't. What exactly is the argument here?

I'm sorry, Pakistan completely deserve age fudgers and age fudgers completely deserve Pakistan.

The PCB were complicit in changing his age themselves.

Sadly true. The PCB have created a total mess with age fakers- it leads to misallocation of resources to guys that 3 to 4 years older than claimed. I know for a fact Amir and Shadab faked their ages

Leaking 25 runs in 2 overs of powerplay where RRR is less than 7 is NOT a good spell. He barely beat the bat/edged even a couple of times and gave many hit me balls, when Rauf and Afridi were making the ball hop on the other end.

It's not about thought or opinion, this can be objectively measured, we have line by line cricinfo commentary.

Clearly you are misremembering and, as I said, this is exactly the kind of fake hype regularly built around Naseem.

It's a bit weird how obsessed you are with him. That you constantly have to correct everyone who even says anything positive about his past perfromances. He was a fantastic bowler when he burst onto the scene but since then has regressed considerably. There was no fake hype attached to it, this opinion was based on his performances.

I also don't need Cricinfo to look at his spell because I saw it live. He may not have started well but his second spell was terrific and he was unlucky not to get a wicket. The last two overs he bowled did alot to build pressure on England and had Shaheen not gotten injured that match could have gotten interesting at the end.

I hate fake agenda and PR for any player including Indians and will call it out every single time.

And no, he never was fantastic in tests and t20s, he always had the exact same figures rights from day 1. Whether it was first day of his career or after 5 years, home or away, across multiple formats, he has been the exact same.

And England taking it easy in a final because they had plenty of overs leftx doens't change anything.

What happened is that you bought into the fake age hype for him and now are stuck in a sunk cost fallacy where no amount of actual evidence will change your mind about the initial feelings you had and the support you sunk into him over all these years

Changing mind about something you are invested in is not easy.
Wow you really are obsessed with him, aren't you? Listen bro, I don't care about this as much as you. You can keep trying to start this verbal debate but I am just not as invested in this as you. I stand by what I said. He was a really talented player when he burst onto the scene but has since regressed considerably. There's nothing to say that he can't still improve, and if he does then great, if not, then that's okay...he won't be the first talented Pakistani player who ended up being a disappointment. What's ironic though is you talking about "fake agenda" while being so obsessed with one specific player...would you not call that an agenda? Anyway feel free to continue being obsessed with him, just stop dragging me into this debate because you are neither going to change my mind nor are you going to hear whatever it is you desperately want to hear from me.

I knew once the numbers and facts come out all you would have is personal attacks. It's easy to predict some posters behavior.

Facts and numbers show he did not show ANYTHING in tests and t20s from day 1. You can lie, live in denial, call me names but numbers and facts never change

Like I said, I don't nearly care about Naseem Shah as much as you. Maybe I did once but I haven't in a very long time.

You can keep blabbering all you want but you won't hear what you want to hear from me.

Hopefully he plays his first full qea season this year. He has made a good start picking up 6 wickets in his first match.

Naseem will hopefully come back.

He can do a good job if he is able to bowl short sharp reverse spells on semi-helpful pitches like this one and can perform better than Hassan Ali.

However he should be behind Khurram Shahzad in the pecking order for now.

Just goes to show there is no alternative to a few first class matches under your belt. Yes there is the odd star who will burst on the scene without first class experience but unless you learn your craft the hard way through effort and toil you will always come up short. Naseem just needs to go back to basics and work hard that’s it.
