I find it appaling that even in the year 2020, no one is able to call out and see the obvious negative depiction and reinforcement of stereotypes of Pathan people in the Pakistani media.

I was watching the drama show "Bulbulay" and found it ridiculous that one of the most watched comedy shows in Pakistan reinforces stereotypes of Pathan people being "unintelligent, desperate to get into intimate relationships, greedy for money, drug abusers etc." The truth is we all know it. We have seen how they are mocked for entertainment purposes.

It is very easy to make a comedy drama run with a Pathan character being the butt of jokes. Discuss.

Yeah I've seen that video. It was disgusting.

There is some truth to every stereotype, and as a Pathan, I have to admit with a lot of shame that our reputation is self-inflicted.

The illiterate Pathans are by far the most uncivil people in the country. The level of jahaalat is unparalleled.

What happened yesterday and today after inauguration of BRT in Peshawar are just one of many, many examples.

Thats fine. But their good and bad in all cultures. My issue is with the widespread depiction of Pathan people. Society doesn't progress this way. Don't you think the media needs to pass on better messages? As the youth and younger generation grow up taking on these assumptions.

For example, our Punjabi people love to dance in all social settings. I would say our dance culture has been promoted and progressed through the media depicting us as jolly dance loving people. Which makes the young Punjabis take an interest in it.

Ideally yes, but in the real world, people will pick up on stereotypes. You cannot avoid it.

There are plenty of Punjabi stereotypes among Pathans as well, so it is a two-way street. However, I do agree that media should try to be impartial.

If you need to mock Pathans or another ethnicity to sell your comedy show, perhaps it is time to sack your writer.

It's shocking. They're backbone of the nation. Just look at the cricket team.. even Mirpuris have a superiority complex. In UK they're very affluent through commerce

My wife is a pathan. I never had anything against pathans, a lot of my close friends are pathans, yes they can be very emotional which is not a bad thing but they are also extremely hospitable. Nothing against them

My mother-in-law is pathan. It is true they are jazbaati people, but jazbaati in love and anger in equal measure. :ma

travelled extensively across pakistan , interior sindh is by far the most backward region in the country.

You have to be open minded, don;t generelize if you watched something you did not like. As a whole Pathans are well respected and admired all over Pakistan, for good reasons.
