What's new

New Zealand (168/7) smoke Sri Lanka (107/8) by a massive margin of 61 runs in Super Eight clash of T20 World Cup 2026

All over. SL are out of the World Cup.

NZ win by 61 runs.

This is a blow for Pakistan but at least SL didn't lose by 100+ runs. NRR is not too out of hand.
So now Pakistan will have to beat SL big and Eng will have to beat NZ by a decent score.

Lol why would any team chose to bowl in these conditions when they know it gets tougher to chase.

Don't these people use their brain. Pakistan did the same against India and srilanka has done the same now.

You are 2 biased here. SL with Hasaranga is a different team and would have destroyed this NZ team. Pak played against them with Hasaranga in. That makes a big difference.

I am not defending Pak team here. They deserve what is on its way for unfair selection and dumb decision making, but will give them credit for defeating a much better SL team vs NZ.
No they're not. If they were so good they would have beaten Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup. And btw they had pretty good opportunities to beat both. Hasaranga is just one player and eventhough he may be a world-class, the remaining 16 overs still have to be bowled by the other bowlers.

Pakistan and Srilanka need to play in SENA more often against the SENA teams, abroad especially, as in proper tours.

Then only they'll improve their weaknesses and all-round game.

However, Srilankan cricket team and talent are more or less gone. They are on route to becoming similar to Zimbawe. Pakistan has some talent with culture focused on domestic T20 format. However, Pakistan players lack intelligent game awareness. Plus not many truly talented big hitters required for T20I and the pace bowling is very weak.

it didn’t change it was 3.05 after they won..

Weirdest accent this of Kiwis esp coming from Rachin
Haha, first time I've heard from Ravindra and he came across as very gracious.

From a PAK POV we really could've done with SL closing the margin a lot more.

He was and as said he observed bowling slow got him turn ,shows Kiwis think tank and players are so much better than Lankans bowing full tosses.

I believe God’s taking test of my loyalty, patience and goodness.

Having given everything to a cause and getting eggs on my face.

It’s a pain which I will carry with myself. Hopefully fellow members will not poke me during this time of turmoil.

This one had clearly written the gloating over neighbors elimination...but yeah I am on the same boat. Good riddance
Er yeah I always say that’s what makes forums spicy…and no not gloating but i would support PCT only over BD, Eng and maybe Afg.. i doubt Pak posters prefer India making it.. I’m sure India is last for most.

I might want competitive PCT but my support is only for India..

I thought Indians liked Afghanistan. :inti

Also, why do you hate England? Brits invented the sport for the record.:inti

They have talent and skill, but lack professionalism. I have said here a million times, it all starts from school - the basics.

They don't have the basics right from the early age. Any country that emphasizes on strong early education, regardless of what you do, will excel in that department - be it sports or whatever. This discussion will lead to politics, and I am too frustrated to discuss politics on forums 😀

why would I like people that treat women worse than animals.
Yeah, calling women poppet, hen, etc is quite demeaning.

Jokes aside, they made it legal for husbands to beat up their wife legally as long as its not an open wound or something, a couple of weeks ago I think, even then its 15 days jail. Things not much better in KPK either. That's why need to get religion out of poor and uneducated areas/countries. Anyway that's another rant for another day.

They should wait for T5 to flourish. 20 overs is too many overs for them.

Yup.. every Qtr the come up with ways to make life terrible for women, they are probably the last team I support now that I think of it.

Co-hosts Sri Lanka were knocked out of the T20 World Cup after suffering a heavy 61-run defeat to New Zealand national cricket team in Colombo.

Needing a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive, Sri Lanka appeared in control for much of the first innings, restricting New Zealand to 98-6 after 16 overs. However, a late onslaught from Mitchell Santner (47 off 26) and Cole McConchie (31* off 23) turned the tide, as the visitors smashed 70 runs in the final four overs to post 168.

Chasing 169, Sri Lanka’s innings never truly got going. Matt Henry struck twice in the powerplay to put the hosts under early pressure. The situation worsened in the ninth over when Rachin Ravindra dismissed both Kusal Mendis and Pavan Rathnayake via stumpings, leaving Sri Lanka reeling at 29-4.

Ravindra, who had earlier contributed 32 from 22 with the bat, finished with outstanding figures of 4-27. Henry, after taking 2-3 in just two overs, was not required to bowl again as Sri Lanka limped to 107-8.

Having already lost to England cricket team in their opening Super 8 clash, Sri Lanka exit the tournament quietly. Meanwhile, New Zealand remain in the hunt for a fifth T20 World Cup semi-final appearance.

For a large portion of the match, Sri Lanka’s bowlers seemed set to dictate the outcome. Maheesh Theekshana claimed 3-9 in his first three overs, while Dushmantha Chameera also impressed as New Zealand slid from 75-2 to 84-6 in quick succession.

But Sri Lanka could not capitalise. McConchie began the recovery before captain Santner unleashed a fierce counterattack. Their 84-run partnership exposed a faltering Sri Lankan attack and lifted New Zealand to a commanding total, which ultimately proved beyond reach once the spinners tightened their grip.

Both teams have one Super 8 match remaining. New Zealand can book a semi-final spot with victory over England on Friday, while Sri Lanka will take on Pakistan national cricket team in Pallekele on Saturday.

Australia must be wondering how they failed to defend 181 (should have scored even more after being 105/1 after 10 overs) against Sri Lanka..

@Rana ben stoke Crying in a corner after Today result.

Rana be like - ye hamare dukh khatam kyu ni hote hai re baba.

:klopp :kp
Yeah for sure Babar is a misfit for T20s and doesn't deserve a place but he believes in the chooran that Pak will be a world class team as soon as you kick out Rizwan and Babar. Half job done with Riz gone and now with Babar going as well, very soon Pak will be a world beating champion team !😂

When did he claim that ... you are the one selling choorun here!

At 84/6 both Sri Lankan players and fans must have thought that the game was in the bag. How quickly your fortunes change in this format?

Dasun Shanaka urges government action over rising negativity

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka has called for government intervention to address what he described as a growing culture of negativity surrounding the national cricket team, warning that it is damaging players’ mental health and the future of the sport.

Speaking after Sri Lanka’s exit from the T20 World Cup, Shanaka said that while the team accepts responsibility for the defeat, the wave of criticism from outside has created a harmful environment.

“Actually, when considering this World Cup, Paddy Upton worked with us and we had huge support from him. As players, it’s very hard for us to control the outside noise,” Shanaka said.

He noted that despite efforts to remain positive within the dressing room, players are constantly exposed to criticism circulating publicly and on social media.

“We mainly hear negative stuff. No matter how positive we are as players, there is a negative environment created from the outside. That’s a disadvantage for cricket in Sri Lanka,” he said.

In a pointed remark, Shanaka questioned the culture of public criticism directed at the team.

“We only have this game and I don’t think this could be saved. When you go outside after this, you will also see how many are out there holding mics to criticise. So why is the negativity being spread like this?” he asked.

The Sri Lanka skipper said that although the team understands the reasons behind the World Cup defeat and shares public concerns, constant negativity does not help resolve structural issues.

“Okay, we lost a World Cup; we know the reasons. We all have concerns. But negativity has come forward more than rectifying the issues,” he said.

Shanaka appealed for authorities to step in to protect younger players from the psychological toll of public hostility.

“At least for the players coming up next, if the government could interfere and stop those, I believe that will be a great help for better mental health,” he added.

But with Rizwan gone, Pakistan did reach the next round which they have struggled to do since last 4 years. With babar gone they might have reached the semis?

It's not about being a world class team, it's about improving instead of stagnation with the same players and same strategy which has been happening for years now.

And any improvement is better than stagnation.
