New Zealand (261 all out) beat Pakistan (182 all out) by 79 runs in the 2nd ODI in Karachi

Pak (babar& Rizwan) scored 64 in the first 20 overs and
102 from the next 20 overs. Had 30 more been scored in the first 20, there would have been less pressure and wouldn't have lost too many wickets in the end .

The amazing RizBar partnership being exposed against better teams in ODIs same as T20s they need those highways against unknown bowlers to make their fans happy again.

I don't understand how people want him to just hit one up in the air on a difficult wicket and go and sit down inside.
His job was to bat through - where nobody has exceeded 25.
Wickets in hand was key at the end.
9 an over when you have wickets in hand is not that difficult over 8-9 overs.
If anything babar held up his end of the deal.
Got very little support-

Babar beats Misbah when its comes to the most frustrating individual to bear with. That is saying something

Babar is worse than Misbah. Misbah didn't have the strokemaking ability to accelerate and his white-ball batting lineups were vastly inferior.

Babar has the ability, but his mindset is so inherently conservative which we routinely see with his captaincy.

Is there any way to watch the post match press conference live?

Can’t wait for Babar’s response today

Bazid Khan on the commentary “Babar Azam out after a well played 79.”

What match was he watching? Can he be banned from commentating? He talks nonsense and has a very annoying voice.

Ish Sodhi to Babar Azam, out Stumped!! That's brilliant from Latham. Very much Dhoniesque

Babar-Rizwan partnership killed this game long ago.

There was no need to go into shell then. You are not tail enders you are supposed to score runs not just occupy the crease aimlessly.

if you dont practice sweep slog sweeps and reverse sweep in nets you will never get them right when needed.

Could babar have hit a few more boundaries earlier- yes of course and maybe he would have if we were still 3 4 or 5 down

ON a gripping pitch, NZ spin attack is as potent as anyone. Will be a massive threat in the world cup if it happens on a turning track.

I played well for my 79 I don’t notice what other people say I enjoy my batting and statpadding.

I also can’t wait for a few highways against C teams to show my class again same for my buddies Imam and Rizwan we are coming for you Magala Linde and Akeal Hossain.

:kakmal

brilliant innings of 79 with a S/R of 69. ODI avg of 60 is maintained and so is the 1 ODI ranking. good outcome for babar this match.

Disagree completely.

On this wicket, letting the asking rate climb to 8 and 9 and over was criminal and why Pakistan lost.

You cant amble for 30 overs at 3 an over and expect the remaining batsmen to hit 10 an over when the ball is turning square.

You are way in over your head on this one.

Good dominating performance by New Zealand today. The runouts were bad and it was mainly caused by Babar's stats padding poor batting. Except in the first ODI, New Zealand had owned Pakistan most of the time on this tour so far. It is high time Pakistan provides a performance worthy of a home team.

Pakistan needs finishers to compliment Babar. He doesn't have the extra gears like top order batsman like Guptill, Bairstow, Rohit.

Nahh..

Babar and Rizwan are worst Players against spin, rest all looks good against spin

Our batsmen playing Hasaranga, Teekshana, and Danunjaya without any issues.

Black Caps level ODI series against Pakistan as Devon Conway leads way with ton

NZ 261 all out in 49.5 overs (Devon Conway 101, Kane Williamson 85, Mitchell Santner 37; Mohammad Nawaz 4-38, Naseem Shah 3-58) beat Pakistan 182 all out in 43 overs (Babar Azam 79) by 79 runs.

The Black Caps overcame a frightening batting collapse to level their ODI series against Pakistan on Thursday morning (NZ time).

New Zealand scored a 79-run win on a wicket which provided plenty of turn and bounce for the spinners in Karachi, when it looked like they might squander a huge second-wicket partnership between century-maker Devon Conway and captain Kane Williamson batting first.

Conway (101) and Williamson (85) put on 181 after losing opener Finn Allen to the fifth ball of the innings, but the visitors lost eight wickets for 57 runs in 17.3 overs after Conway was dismissed.

New Zealand were 183-1 in the 30th over, but went 16.2 overs without a boundary during their slump, and only reached 261 courtesy of 37 from 40 balls by Mitchell Santner at No.8.

However, that proved plenty enough as their spin-based attack kept Pakistan’s chase in check, with the hosts being dismissed in 43 overs for 182.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz was the main reason for New Zealand’s alarming slide, ending with 4-38 from his 10 overs while paceman Naseem Shah backed up his five-wicket haul in the opening match with 3-58.

Williamson won the toss and somewhat surprisingly chose to bat. As expected, Ish Sodhi replaced Henry Shipley in the side which lost the opening game of the series.

Conway’s 101 came from just 92 balls, featuring 13 fours and a six. He brought up his ton in the 29th over, hitting three reverse-sweep fours in the first four balls from legspinner Usama Mir, then scored two off the last to reach his century.

Williamson was dropped twice in one over from Mohammad Wasim – on 53 by Haris Sohail after a mistimed pull to midwicket, and a run later by wicketkeepr Mohammad Rizwan down the leg-side. His 85 came from 100 balls, with 10 fours.

Captain Babar Azam top-scored in his side’s reply with a streaky 79 before being smartly stumped by Tom Latham.

While spin was prominent throughout, Black Caps speedster Lockie Ferguson often troubled the home side’s batting line-up with his pace and sharp bounce.

Big moment

Rizwan guided Pakistan to victory in the first ODI of the three-game series with an unbeaten 77.

But in game two, he was beaten completely by the drift and turn from Santner for 28 in the 20th over, when he and Babar were looking to set up a foundation for their chase.

Best with the bat

Conway’s second ODI century came after he made golden ducks in his last two innings against Pakistan – in the last innings of the drawn second test and then in the opening ODI.

He offered one chance, being dropped on 29 from a caught and bowled opportunity by Nawaz.

Best with the ball

Nawaz captured the wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Latham in the 33rd over and then bowled Williamson with a super delivery in his next over.

Had he held on to a mishit from Conway off his own bowling earlier, it’s likely his spell would have been a match-winning one.

Big picture

The series-decider starts on Friday night (NZ time) at the same venue.

Had it not been Sarfraz Pakistan would have lost test series easily

What a player and captain Babar is !
Always leads the team from the front. Played single handedly but lost .

I agree with everything that you have said. Just coz he was the highest scorer, it was a well played innings according to him...He has made himself a clown with such statements. And his voice feels like as if he was sleeping and forced to do commentary.
PCB should remove him and get Rameez, Aamir Sohail back.. Although it looks difficult that Rameez would want to work under current set up of PCB but he is definitely 100 times better than Bazid Khan.

Devon Conway | Player of the Match: We were certainly targeting 300 especially with the partnership. We lost Allen early but myself and Kane steadied the ship. I have to give a lot of credit to Kane, there was pressuren but he kept me calm. When you are playing spin you have to be proactive.

Mitchell Santner: I think we were a lot tighter with the ball. It was good to get two wickets in the powerplay, it surely spun more than it did in the first game and not sure why. We were looking like getting 300 but lost a few wickets in the middle but were reasonably happy with the score. I was targeting 280 but knew if we could scrap to 250-260 then we could defend it.

Pakistan lost this game due to rizwan and Babar who killed the momentum and due to thier ground fielding/catches.

A better option would be Shoaib Malik or Hafeez. Multi faceted, fit and great players of spin.

Malik is too old to be part of the side. Even at his best he struggled against pace. At this age couple of bouncers is all you need. But he was a terrific player against spin both on frontfoot and backfoot.

WC is in India and effect of pace is somewhat reduced. It is not that Sarfaraz is Viv Richards second coming againt pacers.

Bairstow vs Johnny Bracewell in Tests 46 balls 75 runs
Braecwell vs Babar Azam in ODIs 51 balls 30 runs

If his job was to bat through, what was Rizwan’s job? Also bat through? Bat through to what? 50 overs , playing at a strike rate of 50?

So, you are saying it was a difficult pitch, so you can’t expect Babar to hit. But then you say that 9 an over isn’t difficult? If 9 an over isn’t difficult, was 5.5 an over difficult when Babar and Rizwan started their partnership? Why couldn’t they stay ahead of the game then?

They wouldnt have ambled to 90 off 30 overs like you say if the premier batsman were still in! They would have ambled for 15 and then stepped up a bit.
This is where you are wrong. They needed to play as risk free cricket as possible to make it a shorter chase with maximum wickets remaining.
Every time a batter got out, it meant babar had to recalculate and slow down even more to take it deeper- because it was a hard wicket to score

9 an over for 8 or 9 overs with 7 to 8 wickets was what they needed to get to.
If Rizwan and babar had been together for longer - of course at some point they would have started to transfer pressure back. But as wickets fell - it became harder for babar. It would have been easy to play an agha type innings and go back in the hutch.
That wasn't babars job and his job kept getting harder as the wickets fell.

When the RizBabar opening combination has worked in T20 (minus the strike rate), why don't they try it in ODIs? In the modern game, neither of these batsman can play beyond number 3. Only test matches need specialist openers. I also don't think Usama Mir is good enough as a specialist leggie in ODI.

Rizwan (Haseebullah Khan needs another season before being in contention)
Babar (or Fakhar as opener)
Fakhar (on thin ice: Saim Ayub is waiting in the ranks)
Sohail (inconsistent but still light years ahead of others. Umar Akmal has recently struck form, can be tried at 6)
Tayyab
Ghulam
Agha (average, but are Mubasir Khan, Qasim Akram good enough to replace him?).
Nawaz
Wasim (was his fan, but we need to try Amad Butt before world cup)
Naseem
Rauf (hope he snaps out of post-marriage syndrome soon)

They have already been exposed in T20 as frauds.

If they bat at the top of the order, it would expose them as frauds as well, as they would bat at 3 to 4 an over and hit 150/0 in 35 overs.

And then ask the remaining 9 batsmen to hit at 10 an over to score par 300.
