What's new

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 122 runs in 1st Test.

SL need to get close to 400. NZ are playing like a bunch of Afridis with their slogging.
Yeah, SL would have been batted out of the game if we had batted sensibly and made 550.

Right now, they're still in it.

Its about limited overs match, SL has always been a poor Test side even with Sanga, Mahela, Murali and Vaas. Can only expect to do well in Lois. Poor Prasad is injured, last time useless Thisara injured him during practice before WC and malnourished Barry Bonds isn't in the side either. Can't wait to watch Kushal Silva play ODI with sr of 60. Crapugedara is in the squad as well along with Carrom boy  Epic pounding awaits.

SL have never been a poor test side. You could say that they have never been a top side, but to say they've been a poor side is over egging it. They've held their own in their home and have a few memorable series victories overseas too.

Is it true that Wagner clocked 160kph? I read in article..
Yeah, but it wasn't legit.

A low-flying seagull with a blustery nor'easter at its tail is thought responsible for a 160kmh delivery attributed to Black Caps quick bowler Neil Wagner during the first test with Sri Lanka in Dunedin on Friday.

Wagner apparently bowled the sharpest ball of his 17-test career to Dinesh Chandimal late in the first session of day two at University Oval.

Once Chandimal kept out the yorker, Sky Sport's speed gun clocked the ball at 160kmh - a number that rapidly found itself on social media and news websites.

However, although the South African-born left-armer ran in hard throughout his spells on a unresponsive wicket, the delivery was actually closer to his usual speed limit - 133kmh.

A member of the Sky Sport's production team said a bird was probably to blame for the inaccurate reading from one of the two speed guns positioned at the venue. If not, a laser could also have been a catalyst for the bizarre number.

Had the reading been accurate Wagner - in his first test since the Boxing Day clash with Sri Lanka in Christchurch last year - would have joined a select group including Starc and former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar.

We should have claimed it like the Aussies claimed Starc's, speed guns are never wrong.... It was an effort ball...

Good comeback by SL. They'll have to keep battling this way for the next 3 days if they are to draw this.

Chandimal is a top quality player, next captain of Srilanka. Mathews gained so much weight

Latham's gotta stop throwing away his damn starts and make a hundred already. Hope he converts this time.

Matthews is probably one of the poorest captains around in International cricket.

New Zealand piled up 408 runs for 8 wickets. Herath bowled less overs with an economy 2.5 while faster bowlers were all above 4.3. Pardeep who bowled most went for over 5.

Sub standard cricket this.

Pradeep also picked up 4 wickets, while Herath got 0 wickets in 19 overs (compared to Pradeep's 23 overs).

SL being more and more exposed in these conditions as the game goes on, probably will have to bat 4.5 or 5 sessions to save the game which means a massive win for kiwis coming up.

Hit out tomorrow morning and declare 5 or so overs before lunch.

A few players (Boult is the most likely) may be rested for the Pakistan series in prep for the big showdown against Aus,

Wish Eden Park had been picked as venue for one of the Tests...

SL in the game...

Always thought we were going declare around this time.

McCullum probably thought we would have been at 450.

Sri Lanka were paying $50 to win before the declaration, now they're $30.

What happened to that Sri Lankan opener, Silva I think he's called?

What happened to that Sri Lankan opener, Silva I think he's called?

Dropped before the tour but then recalled after Kusal Perera was suspended due to the 'banned substance'... arrived just before the 1st Test, so probably wasn't in any condition to play, but I don't think he's in favour. Might be back for the next one if Mendis doesn't play an innings of note here.

Ahhh, okay cheers mate.
Remember he was an amazing fielder and did pretty well against us with the bat.

How many Mendis' are there?

Just Kusal Mendis. Ajantha Mendis is in the Loi side, not in the Test side.

Kaushal silva was dropped because the test team already had Kusal Perera and Kusal mendis and didn't want another Kusal/Kaushal. But Kusal Barry Bonds Perera is suspended so they needed to fill in the Quota of Atleast 2 cricketers with same first or last name so they flew in Kaushal Silva. When you right it Kusal/Kaushal are all the same.

Not much to do with condiiton, don't think the condition was too bad, the pitch wasn't a green mamba like the last time, just poor SL Test team as usual.

So mean :)) These commies having a giggle at Jayasundera's name.
Yeah lol

Hasn't really seen Latham play.. Does he have any potential to become big?

The school boy.

He did pretty well considering his FC and LA average. He was very patient, looked like he wasn't scared of the short ball. Left anything that didn't come at him. Wouldn't call him a "beauty" though, looks like a nerd.

chandimal showing his class. yet again. hasn't looked pretty, especially first innings but boy knows how to graft.

Good stuff from Chandi. If one of these two makes a 150+. SL win easy.

Wicket is a road, McCullum should have batted 3-4 more overs and batted SL out of the game.

On our wickets, you need to give yourself loads of overs if you're to push for victory on day 4 and 5.

SL beaten comprehensively as expected and mathews indicated that SL defensive mindset didnt help, well that mindset comes from one of the worst captains in world cricket right now.

He's a defensive captain but his poor resources are not helping his cause in developing his captaincy skills.

His captaincy is poor, he is probably the worst leader. His facial expression, body language and so on doesn't reflect a strong leader.

Congrats enzed. Was expecting an innings loss so not all bad I guess. Missing Prasad big time with the ball.

Yes the lankan resources may not be the greatest but hes not exactly gettting the best out of them, a captain needs to lead from the front with the bat or in the field and show the way to the rest of the team, SL were always expected to be beat in new zealand so if thats the case atleast go down fighting with some aggresion rather then tame surrender.
