What's new

New Zealand end Day 2 of the 1st Test at 165/0 in reply to Pakistan's 438

4 balls - I’ve seen enough of hamza. Out and out trundler.

Mir Hamza first over was decent. Cannot believe he was kept out firlikes of Mohd Ali and Wasim Junior.

Speed is not everything. How fast was Southee, yet he is a gun bowler.

If he settles at 133ks then ok it’s workable. But 124, 127 in the first over is just not test standard at the start of your career.

Southee can get away with some of his pathetic pace because he has experience and a few tricks and nuances.

I do not know why commentators are in hurty for Abrar,Latham in particular is a good player of spin, and the two opening bowlers have made a decent start on dead pitch.

Both are mediocre. Mir Hamza is not good either, unless he plays in english conditions. He is lucky not playing against bazball.

Abrar or bust for Pakistan in this match.

Can't see the seamers doing much.

in 4 tests pakistan have tried all of their fast bowling inventory. Disappointing to say the least.

Not really. Against England, Pakistan did not have scoreboard pressure to work with. NZ's lack of bowling firepower in these conditions has allowed PAK to make a big score and I'm not sure thdy have the batting ability in these conditions either.

Pakistan should not waste the new ball. It should be given straight to the spinners. The old ball will not spin.

Always a lot of chat about over rates, but the umpires contribute to the slow pace of the game at times. They are checking far too many things with the TV ump now which are obviously not out (run outs) and obviously out (clean catches). There was no reason whatsoever for them to check that run out chance just now, or the catch that Daryl Mitchell took yesterday. These are meant to be the world’s best umpires and they should have more confidence & better judgment than this.

Pakistan not bringing Abrar on early?

Actually I take that back. One thing I did notice in the England series was the left handers played him extremely easily as compared to righties. Perhaps not the best decision to bowl him to 2 left hsnders.

This guy Babar is the most baffling captain in Test cricket history

Dude you have two left handers at the crease

Bowl yourself, bowl Salman and pin them down from around the wicket. You have no other right handed off spinner!

Anderson, Robinson and Southee all from the same mould of tall bowlers who get movement off the deck. Pakistan lacking here though I think Abbas worth a shot.

Meanwhile the English and Kiwi spinners are also more experienced and look of better quality.

This has draw written all over it because NZ won't be able to force the win like England. Or maybe they can.

Clearly the flattest wicket on planet..nz will grind us down. Just woke up to see the tail flopped again what a joke

NZ are doing ok with their performance in this match and their plan will be nothing enterprising in the style of Ben Stokes.

Instead they will be looking towards the classic “touring side in the subcontinent” away formula: to bat long and take the game deep.

The 3rd innings can be acutely difficult in Test cricket if the bowling side is in a position to create some pressure, and this applies particularly in subcontinent conditions for some reason.

Interesting couple of days ahead.

Salman is off the field

You criticize Babar for everything

This is flattest of the flattest pitches apart from first hour of 1st day. I hope Najam Sethi takes all power from Babar or any future captain when it comes to deciding the pitch.

NSK typically has grass on the pitch. Remember the match against Sri Lanka in 2019/2020. Babar is a coward, shaves all the grass from the pitch so it doesn't have any seam movement. Poor domestic performers Mir Hamza and Mohammad Ali are being trashed on such pitches.

I wish Babar is sacked

If newzealand can play whole day tomorrow they will make 400. Nothing is there for bowlers in this pitch. Total highway

Rubbish pitch as usual. Only in Pakistan do pitches actually get better to bat on as the match progresses. 5th day pitch will be an absolute beauty to bat on.

Sajid could have been tried instead of Nauman. Both club level bowlers though.

Pakistan bowling is at its weakest.

Still expect new Zealand to win this series.

They have the better spinners and better seam bowlers

I'm only following the scores on cricinfo while at work and even that seems to be boring so i've closed the window.

Test cricket is very boring when played on flat decks, we need to see wickets falling to make it interesting. Man two boxing day tests and both have been dead boring, one is a totally one sided bashing of RSA and the other looks a dull draw.

Test cricket in pakistan

Flat pitches.
No crowds.

PCB needs to make better pitches , some bounce at least.

Test pitches in Pakistan have in general been a disgrace.

Probably the worst wickets at international level.

Problem for Pak is that they can't prepare seaming tracks because they don't have the bowlers and they know their batters won't last against the moving ball.

At the same time, they can't produce spinning tracks because again, most teams have better spinners than them and pak batters inevitable crumble against any half decent spin bowler

So I guess preparing dead tracks is the only way they can hopefully muster a draw from matches

Has anyone ever seen Babar put in an unusual fielding position? He is a run off the mill captain who doesn't even try changing stuff up to make things happen.

Also I'm just waiting for the one customary Sarfraz catch drop. That'll be the icing on the cake.

Kiwis to bat 2-3 days and throw us in with 4 sessions remaining?

Abrar not as effective. Englans gifted him few wickets because of bazball. But NZ are grinders so he will have to earn each wicket. Looking tough.

Latham and Conway picking up where Crawley and Duckett left off.

He also can't keep it tight very uneconomical for a spinner.

Captaincy by numbers, as they say.
Really no creativity or inspiration— standard fielding positions etc.
Fabulous batsman, below average captain

Let Shakil Shaikh manage all pitches of Pakistan. Diamond cricket club had the best pitches in Pakistan. Babar should have no say in the pitches, incompetent and unaspiring captain

You know it's a flat wicket when PAK can score 400.

Looks like taking 20 wickets will be a struggle again. With four LHs in NZ's top seven, we should've selected a specialist offspinner.

Why would any fast bowler be aspiring to be a red ball bowler in Pakistan on these pitches? Bowl 4 overs, earn a lot of money and respect. It is a no brainer.

This reminds me of old time India where fast bowlers only were in the team to make up numbers. But then Indian spinners took wickets, but our spinners are clueless, only when it's a square turner they show up.

Anyone else sick to the teeth with Pakistan producing these pitches? I was so excited about all these test matches in quick succession but nothing puts you off more quickly than bowlers toiling away on roads.

Looking dangerous now. Need a couple of wickets . At this rate, they will have a lead before end of Day 3..

Looking very easy for New Zealand.

Pak will pick up the odd wicket, but one can’t see where a rush of dismissals could come from.

This pitch is one to roll up and take away with you if you’re a batsman.

Babar is the most dull and unimaginative captain we've had in years.

Seemingly has no wicket-taking strategies or plans against opposition batsmen, just hope for some individual brilliance.

When the surface is flat you see skippers telling their bowlers to hide the ball outside off to dry up the runs, use a short ball strategy, or set an unconventional field.

Was surprised they didn’t review that.

Small spike on Snicko. Would have been out.

Ridiculous

Why didn’t Sarfaraz press him to take the review??
