NZ 62
IND 325 & 109/1 (32.4) CRR: 3.34
Day 3: 1st Session - India lead by 372 runs

How big a defeat will NZ suffer here?

There is no demon in pitch. NZ just played poor and Indian bowlers were brilliant.

I think fingers are underneath the ball so that's out.

Kiwis should have played Sodhi and Santher plus Patel here .

It would have been very strong bowling unit

What have Ajaz Patel (NZ) and Simon Harmer (SA) done right, that the likes of Warne and Murali couldn't?

India had legendary batsmen against spin bowling during Warne and Murali era.

Kohli is declining how long will he continue his average will fall below 50 soon will he hang on like Pujara is doing or retire in he next 1-2 years.

He needs a second wind like Tendulkar post 2007.

Harmer got a rank turner and back then Indian batsman also were rookies vs spin except Vijay and Pujara.

Test cricket in India is boring because no team can compete with India in India :mv

This is his first test wicket too. Ravindra has all the makings of a good cricketer.

Man.

Even if virat scores century which i guess he will
Still that fire that swag that confidence is missing.
I mean even a blind man can see
He is not the same cricketer.

A blind man can't see tbh.

Kohli will hit his next hundred in 100th test. He won't hit a 100 today.

Lead is now worth 474 runs.

I think they should declare once lead reaches 550 runs.

Lol. What what is the hurry? Just bat time and get as much practice as possible. Loads of time of time left in the match.

I am a bit surprised India didn't enforce the follow-on.

NZ got bundled out within 29th over in the 1st innings.

You are right he didnt.
Ahhh i was just trying to bw optimistic
Otherwise i was also 90 percent sure he wont

I have said it already five matches ago. His hundred drought will end up in his 100th test. Do come back on his 100th test :afridi

I do not understand what is the difference between 493 and 523.. No team is chasing that in Mumbai on last 2 days. Declare now and pump the Kiwis.

This is nice approach. no Need for any stats padding just score fast as they can and declared

Honestly honestly i know pitch is turning right now
But pitch has no such demons that you will struggle hard to score as you can see axar is hitting sixes for fun
And spin bowling is also weak of newzealand
With india being on a drivers seat
Still virat couldnt score
His time is almost up
I dont think he will score much in SA.
May be will score century in odi but test no chance.

I was also watching virat's recent interview with PM modi
Where he said he doesnt feel bad now if he misses net session but feels bad if he misses gym sessions.
So he clearly told his priorities

India declared with lead of 539 .14 wickets for Ajaz patel in the match and 3 for Ravindra.

Why did we bat for so long? And so aimlessly when Kohli was out there. Pathetic, should have declared couple of hours earlier, even better a follow on yesterday evening itself. This is what separates that ATG Australian team from others, they were so ruthless that they backed themselves to defend much lower scores with more overs and flatter conditions, they always thought of team victory and not individual milestones or safety first nonsense. Twice they went on 16 test match winning streaks, even if Indian team gets the resources to dominate like that we won't because we lack killer instinct.

Btw Somerville is the worst spinner I have seen in my life at international level. Ravindra is a rookie with more potential in batting, their pacers were flat in both innings. One man show by A Patel.

Ajaz Patel should get man of the series irrespective of series result. Not often that losing team player gets this award but he deserves it for being a one man bowling attack sending in 75 overs in just over 2 days. His clutch defence in Kanpur too played a big part.

Mayank my man of the match.

NZ 62 all out
Mayank 150+62

Unreal domination!!!!

IND 325 & 276/7 d

Day 3: 2nd Session - New Zealand need 527 runs

UPDATE - Mayank Agarwal got hit on his right forearm while batting in the second innings. He has been advised not to take the field as a precautionary measure.

Shubman Gill got a cut on his right middle finger while fielding yesterday. He will not be taking the field today.

What a dominating performance against current world champions. win probability for Nz shows less than a percent!!!

Gah, what a pity. After the nail biter in the first Test. I thought NZ might take this one. Returned to the usual state of affairs! India dominant.

What was Ross Taylor trying to do .he could have been out on 5 out of the 8 balls he has faced

I wonder if he is close to being done. 37 years old now and he has likely lost a few steps.

We miss another wicket due to umpires' incompetence.

Saha misses stumping. Though it won't have mattered as that was a no-ball from Jayant.

This Jayant guy is so average

He bowls like a net bowler or part time spinner

Rousing edition of Vande Mataram by the mumbai faithful and regulars in the Garware pavilion to finish off the day, wonderful atmosphere created by the 25k odd spectators, if not for the virus, would be full house.

He defo looks like he has'nt turned down too many second helpings of NZ pie and pudding in the NZ off season :)

Day 3: Stumps - New Zealand need 400 runs

He has been bought to fill shoes of Jadeja. Looks ok . Has a FC century as well . They r trying to test their strength.

Not just a FC hundred
He has a test hundred to his name

He is a mediocre bowler but a decent batsmen to have at 7

All in all not international quality, a journey man cricketer to fill in the void

Chasing a mammoth target of 540, New Zealand were reduced to 140/5 at stumps on day three after India declared their innings on 276/6 at Wankhede.

With two days to go, India are now five wickets away from a win while New Zealand will need a huge miracle to make a game out of this as they are still 400 runs away from victory.

Ravichandran Ashwin ran through New Zealand's top four with three-wicket haul. Daryl Mitchell and Henry Nicholls showed some grit but two wickets towards the end of the day put India firmly in the driver's seat going into the penultimate day.

Earlier in the day, Mayank Agarwal led the way with a fifty while Cheteshwar Pujara, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel all made valuable contributions to take India to 276/6d.

Starting at 69/0, Cheteshwar Pujara began the day in style with back-to-back boundaries off the bowling of Ajaz Patel, eager to add to his ten-wicket haul in the first innings. Mayank Agarwal joined in for India, hitting a six and a four of his own in consecutive deliveries, bringing up a half century in the process.

Agarwal would fall for 62, with Ajaz taking his 11th wicket for the match, miscuing to Will Young. 11 became 12 for the left-arm orthodox spinner, claiming Pujara for 47 with a thick edge to Ross Taylor at slip.

Ajaz bowled 12 overs in the first session of day three, as Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli moved into a lead in excess of 400 at lunch.

After the break, the batters took the attack to William Somerville, with Kohli and Gill smashing a six each in consecutive overs.

Shubman Gill, who looked set for a big score, once again fell short of his fifty, with Rachin Ravindra bagging his maiden Test wicket. Shreyas Iyer made his intent clear as soon as he walked out to bat, clearing the ropes twice off Somerville's bowling, before he was stumped out by Ajaz Patel for a 8-ball 14.

India lost their third wicket in four overs when Kohli chopped on a ball from Ravindra for 36. Wriddhiman Saha too followed the captain back to the pavilion soon but it had no effect on the approach of Axar Patel, who used the left-arm angle of Ajaz and Ravindra to his advantage as he smashed them to all parts.

He was unbeaten on 41 off just 26 balls, an innings that include three fours and four maximums, when Kohli decided to declare after the wicket of Jayant Yadav, setting New Zealand a target of 540.

India got off to a perfect start, with Ravichandran Ashwin getting the better of Tom Latham for the eighth time in Test cricket, trapping him in front of the stumps for 6 as New Zealand went to tea at 13/1.

Siraj came out all guns blazing after the break and was breathing fire in the first two overs of the final session of the day. New Zealand went on the counter-attack soon and showed some intensity in a six-over period that saw Will Young and Daryl Mitchell score 29 runs that included six boundaries.

Ashwin struck twice in two overs to expose the middle order. Aswhin got one to spin and bounce sharply and caught Young on the backfoot, who inside edged onto the and pads into the hands of short leg.

Taylor uncomfortable stay at the crease lasted only six balls, as he mistimed a slog sweep that Pujara gobbled up a good catch running backwards.

Mitchell, in the company of Henry Nicholls, continued to take the attack to the bowlers and kept the scoreboard ticking by finding the ropes with regularity. Consecutive boundaries off Umesh Yadav first brought up the 50-run partnership of the pair as well as Mitchell's second Test fifty.

Axar Patel brought an end to the resistance between the fourth-wicket pair. Mitchell, who had hit the left-arm spinner for a six the previous ball, decided to take the aerial route but holed out to Jayant Yadav at deep cover.

Tom Blundell made the long walk back without disturbing the scorers. Trying to steal a single after playing it to mid-on, Blundell was halfway down the track when Nicholls sent him back. Bharat sent a good throw adjacent to the stumps and Saha whipped the bails off with the batter well short of his crease.

Rachin Ravindra and Nicholls saw off the remaining eight overs of the day, with New Zealand still 400 runs behind the target of 540 with only five wickets in hand.

As Pietersen would say, he's a piechucker!

Funnily enough, England were destroyed by him in one of the tests in the 2016 series iirc. Was a great meme series that.

what an amazing turnaround by NZ .... Pitch has become a batting paradise now and NZ are only 400 runs away

Washington Sundar is much better than him.

Bowling A/R - Ashwin and Axar
Batting A/R - Washington and Jadeja
