What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

First day pitch was green during SL and Indian tours as well, but it became pretty good to bat from 2nd day.

88 first class games and only 1 5fer before this game for De Grandhomme. This guy has to be the luckiest bowler ever that he got his debut game against us. This probably would hv been his first and only test match had he made his debut against any other team including zim or Bangla.

We need to lose the last wicket ASAP and have a go at NZ for 45 odd overs. I can't wait to see our bowlers on this pitch.

This will probably flatten out now like most NZ pitches. Pakistan are in big trouble.

The sun is out and the pitch seems to hv lost a bit of zip. I hope it's not the same with the new ball as well.

Not if Pakistan can do get NZ out there quickly and take some wickets. Pitch is still very good for bowling.

Misbah had to go for it, what else to expect. Top order should have been more patient!

All out now as i type. Forget about this innings for now, time for our bowlers to peg back a few stumps!! no excuses!

Rahat and Amir can still wreck havoc on this pitch 40 overs is more than enough, interesting times!!

All those hoping that Kiwis will be 100 all out , will be surprised. They will not loose more than two wickets

10/102 - almost matching Aussies. But, this is a difficult wicket, match might be interesting more than it looks.

Pitch is still very good for bowling. If Pakistani bowlers put ball in right areas, NZ can lose wickets in heaps as well.

Time for our bowlers to step up especially Amir. We must get them out before 200 or we are in massive trouble.

ICC really does need to get rid of the toss. It's difficult enough for teams to win away from home in the first place and losing tosses puts them in a nearly impossible situation.

Rahat needs to work on his batting. He has been with the team for 2+ years and still cant hold a bat.

It doesn't work that way - if Kiwis get all-out for 100; PAK will face the music again tomorrow morning. Best is what Kiwis did with PAK - bowled 56 overs for 133. PAK should look to keep things very tight at around 2.3/2.4 & get Kiwis inside 230 - by that time wicket should settle a bit & bat 2nd time better, may be 300 for a target over 170.

About 15 years back, in a rain wet wicket NZ got IND for 105; next morning IND got Kiwis for 95; then NZ got INH 100/6 or so at the end of the day - they chased 120 ish target with 2 or 3 down eventually.

Better get used to this, my Pakistani friends.

The only warm-up match before the First Test in Australia is in Monsoon season at Cairns!

Pakistan would have to bat really well in second innings to save this game here.

These conditions would have been perfect for Mohd Asif.

How long can we afford to keep him out ?

There will be result in this match. Still 333 overs left in the match, so unless it rains, there is no chance of saving this match - better try to win it. These are situations I actually don't like Misbah's Captaincy - too many times, he allows teams to get away with, last time I saw him giving easy single to Brathwaite so that he can have a go at Dorwich - that didn't work defending 153.

Start attacking the Kiwis & make the new ball count - and hold on to catches; this match is not over by any means.

How has he done in the ongoing domestic season? I hardly see his name popping up, can't just induct him into the side based on previous track record.

Not looking forward to seeing us bat against Amir, Rahat, Sohail and Yasir..

Williamson is the key. I expect NZ to get a lead of at least 50 runs, if it's > 100 then Kiwis are winning this unless it rains.

That's 2 games where the toss was crucial but both away captains lost the toss and their teams are suffering because of it.

NZ will take the lead tonight - Pakistan needs at least four wickets this afternoon!

Asif is doing brilliantly!

Averaging 20 with a strike rate of 45 and an economy rate of 2!

Gun barrel straight from amir, even on this pitch, you have to admire our bowlers ability or discability to not swing it an inch even in these conditions.

We've made one debutant look like a million dollars, lets hope to put some pressure on the other debutant here and get him cheaply!

Judge after a few more overs, remember it took them a while to get the ball going as well and this is their home conditions

Well, Cook won the toss in first game, but had no intention of winning the game despite being in a dominant position.
