What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Babar doesn't have good front foot stride. Can look static at the crease full pitched deliveries. Needs to work on that, his balance is really good already.

how do you feel about it?
Don't mind

If Babar can perform and have more consistency then awesome and as it is in these conditions we need runs from lower middle order which Nawaz wasnt offering so could be a win win. In these conditions we need a deeper line up so doesn't hurt having the one of best #6 batsmen in history return there and gluing up our lower middle order

Also with Misbah and YK on last legs it could work out better for long term to get games under Babars belt

Babar at #3 instead of Asad.

It was always on the card with Arthur, he is an Aussie ideological Coach - most talented player to bat at 3. If it was in his hand entirely, he would have sent Asad at 4.

This is an Arthur decision. No way is Babar playing at 3 if it was upto Misbah. Asad will move up to 4 when Younis and Misbah retire. Umar,Amin, or Rizwan will take the other slot and than an all rounder at 6.

That is what Arthur wants.

People ignoring the fact that Babar is playing 2nd test match and that too against a good pace attack on a green pitch.Give the guy some time.

Southee finally getting it right.

Need to make up for that horrid start.

Babar is definitely not a no.3 batsman

Who else - there is no ready made No. 3; Arthur is trying to build one & picked the best prospect at young age. If he plays all these 5 Tests at 3, he'll be ready; just needs one big innings (like his ODI career).

Problems now, get the feeling we need 300 to ensure we won't lose. Will be tough getting there.

Asad at #4 makes lot of sense to me

Normality is resumed.

Babar to go next and we are back to usual Misbah/Younis get us out of a hole territory.

First Holder, then this guy Grandhomme - at this rate teams will stop picking spinners against PAK & load the team with medium pacers. What's next - Mitch to take 7/47?

To be fair, that delivery to Azhar was a good one.

Babar still thinking he is playing in UAE, we didn't lose wicket when we were meant to be i mean in first hour, and now losing wicket after facing the initial storm, iss moqay pay wo sher fit beth ta hai, "hamein tu gairoon ne loota apnun mein kahan dam tha, hmarai kashti wahan doobi jahan pani kam tha"

Told you guys we'd get near 250 odd. Lack of match practice is hurting. Need atleast 250 here.

Southee really getting it to go.

Amir, Rahat and Sohail are going to be great here.

Lets not judge the boy so quick, he will need to show more in his next 3 digs.

Hafeez is waiting on the wings

Terrible shot by Babar, very loose and totally against the requirements of the situation.

55/3 now

And Pakistan still protecting the golden child Shafiq by throwing him back to 6... Still wrapping him up in cotton wool.

I am not taking credit out of him; but there was more or less 6 inch gap between bat-pad on drive.

Also, PAK batsmen should be sympathized as well - played 2 months in UAE, then playing straight 1st Test on 180 degree opposite condition. Those 3 wickets so far won't have been out in UAE, even if edged, ball hardly would have carried to slips at the pace Kiwis are bowling.

Great excuse, let's not act like we don't have in Azhar and an unstable Shafiq.

The team is all YK/Misbah and a quick fire by Sarfraz

Sami/Babar are new so you can give them some leeway
But Azhar/Shafiq have been in the side and always are either hot or cold.

What would be a par score on this pitch? I'd reckon 250 odd would put pressure on NZ.
