What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Hamilton | Nov 25-29, 2016 | Day 4

Then us fans would've complained about how he is being so defensive and not applying pressure by bowling prt timers. This has been a poor performance by everyone not just him. He isn't a good captain but we should stop blaming him. Misbah would've made no difference

The problem is that the pacers take too long to get through their overs - we're not the only team to have four pacers bowling most of the time. The likes of Australia, South Africa and England often utilise pacers for 90% of the overs when bowling in helpful conditions on Day 1/2.

If Azhar would be bowling himself or Babar a lot, we'd (rightfully) be complaining that he is giving an easy passage to the opponents.

I haven't paid very close attention to it but I think Sohail and Wahab both take quite a while to complete their overs.

Actually this is the difference between Fans and Cricketers..... Fans will complain no matter what !! But a person, as a professional athlete, should get the job DONE!!.... because you know........ THAT's HIS JOB isn't it ??

Making amateurish mistakes (slow over rate) on field and then covering up by saying that 'oh if he would've done xyz and we'd still complain' is not how it works. We need to make sure that NZ would face as many deliveries as possible since time is of the essence here, A PRETTY SIMPLE CONCEPT TO WRAP AROUND OUR HEADS !!

Azhar is not new to captaincy, he's been captaining the ODI side for almost a year and half now and over-rate which is much much more essential in ODI cricket and this should've become a second nature trait to his leadership.

I don't even fluster when we loose ODI series after series, Meaningless T20 cups and other bilaterals, however, I just ticked off whenever we mess up a TEST MATCH because at the end of the day, this is real cricket and is not place for experimental captaincies and complacency !!

You either perform or your go home - period !!

Amir needs to be benched next game......

Getting Spanked by Nicholls of all people

Always an excuse :sree

Not an excuse!!! Our team is declining in all departments battling, bowling and fielding. Even Bangladesh will do far better than our team in overseas. Need a complete change in order to be among 7-8

I agree Bangladesh will be tougher for our bowlers to bowl out. No disrespect to Pakistan, but their batsmen will be tougher to get on our wickets IMO.

Exactly Bangladesh is better than our team in every department. Bowling fast or spin, fielding, batting, captainy, patience and intelligence

They should climb the rankings and displace us soon !! I guess there is some valid conspiracy against them as they are a gun team and languishing at the bottom of the Table

Send Southee if the next batsman gets out and ask him to slog the hell out. Need a target of 400 and 100 overs to bowl.

Sohail is done he shouldn't be bowling this many overs. He needs to improve his fitness and he could become a great number 7/8 all-rounder for us.

NZ need to do firework now.. Quick 350 leads would be enough

Honestly if you think about it we could've just played Sohail Khan at seven and kept Yasir in the Playing XI instead of Rizwan. At least he would've got 15-20 runs, and would've added a fifth bowling option.

NZ should declare overnight or before the end of the day.

Don't want to witness anymore of this torture.

No man thats too many bowlers...

Boss, hope you are there. With a day & half lost in this Test, it's like a 4 day Test - theoretically around 400 overs will be bowled; though from PAK's over rate, I can say that 98/day is distant dream.

Any way, there was no need for 110 overs cap for 1st innings as both teams fell short of that comfortably. Now, a 2-0 win will take NZ higher in the table, more importantly, they'll create history of clean sweeping PAK (which I think a bit more than 10 points for a win against 2 for a draw); while for PAK - the stake is even higher (though their over rate isn't indicating that, but let's stick to our topic).

Considering every aspect - do you think,

1. Will is going to ask his batsmen to go crazy, score another 100 in 15 overs & challenge PAK to score 400 in about 110 overs (and his bowlers to take 10 wickets for 2-0)?

2. If so, is Azhar going to tell his batsmen - man can be destroyed, but can't be defeated - so guys win or bust; let's maintain 3.5 asking rate, whatever happens after that - Test cricket is winner.

It's a bit important to discuss it here boss; because instead of opening new threads every time on why Test cricket is unpopular & why 4 Day Test is the way forward - I'll drag you back to this particular thread every time.

That's why picking 4 pacers is stupid.. Don't understand what they were thinking

Yeah, but the bowlers are currently way to tired to pick up wickets and Rizwan did nothing with the bat.

Benefit of hindsight. We scored 300 runs across both innings in the first Test, we were never going to sacrifice a batsman for a bowler after that. Rizwan's duck wasn't planned, he was picked so that we had proper batsmen in the Top 7. He will have a chance to come good in the second innings.

We should go for the target, whatever it might be. There would be no difference if the series loss is 1-0 or 2-0.

I would rather we gun down this target and lose 2-0 than playing like kittens and then lose 2-0......

For once we need to show some sort of a spine !

Kiwis should score another quick fire 60 runs in 10 overs and make Pak bat today.
Judging by the batting order, seems very likely there won't be a declaration very late tonight or tomorrow morning.

We should definitely go for a draw.. a draw isn't a bad result.. 1-0 is better than getting whitewashed

Our team is not as fortunate as the Indian team, who played 5 ODIs and a tour game before the start of their Test Series, we frankly went in there with no preparation and a needlessly extended series against the Windies which for the life of me I cannot understand..

So losing the first test match was a natural phenomena.. you can't play on a pitch you haven't batted on before..

I would take a draw over a defeat anyday

Guys I think it's about time that Pakistan drops Sami Aslam, the guy can't field, whatever he scores with the bat, the opposition batsmen are going to score triple that because of his useless fielding. Even Salman Butt is a better slip fielder than this Sami Aslam

We're essentially playing this as a prep / Warm up to the tour down under next month; which is why I want us to gun this down, or at least go down fighting rather than securing a meaningless draw as this will not benefit with any sort of thing whether it be points, confidence or anything!!

If we somehow, miraculously do pull this off then we'd get this self belief of making such happen when we actually play in a much more difficult situation!!

We're not winning this match. Already NZ have scored more then enough for our third rate batting line up to even dream off chasing. Prior to this series most here completely underestimated New Zealand.

Our pace attack is poor and our batsman can't play swing

Is this selfish knock from BJ or is he being instructed to do so? Reckon it's former

You are forgetting that the NZ side that India played had BMac in terrific form. That NZ side was on top of their game. That NZ side destroyed us in odi matches too.

There is no advantage of batting time out here for NZ so it's pretty much his personal choice to play this way.

No I think surviving on a day 5 pitch is a test in itself, you need to be able to grind out draws when your backs are against the wall..

Pak brought Taylor back to form. The guy was struggling to hold bat against India recently

Comeon I'm not blaming anyone here, but its just suicidal to goto NZ without having even played a tour match..we were asking for trouble when we played the first game without even a practice match..

This defeat goes to the head of our cricket board and no one else

NZ are 1-0 ahead, no need to declare and risk a series win. 16 overs remain for days play, Kane will wait for Taylor's ton and lead get closer to 400.
