Then us fans would've complained about how he is being so defensive and not applying pressure by bowling prt timers. This has been a poor performance by everyone not just him. He isn't a good captain but we should stop blaming him. Misbah would've made no difference
The problem is that the pacers take too long to get through their overs - we're not the only team to have four pacers bowling most of the time. The likes of Australia, South Africa and England often utilise pacers for 90% of the overs when bowling in helpful conditions on Day 1/2.
If Azhar would be bowling himself or Babar a lot, we'd (rightfully) be complaining that he is giving an easy passage to the opponents.
I haven't paid very close attention to it but I think Sohail and Wahab both take quite a while to complete their overs.
Actually this is the difference between Fans and Cricketers..... Fans will complain no matter what !! But a person, as a professional athlete, should get the job DONE!!.... because you know........ THAT's HIS JOB isn't it ??
Making amateurish mistakes (slow over rate) on field and then covering up by saying that 'oh if he would've done xyz and we'd still complain' is not how it works. We need to make sure that NZ would face as many deliveries as possible since time is of the essence here, A PRETTY SIMPLE CONCEPT TO WRAP AROUND OUR HEADS !!
Azhar is not new to captaincy, he's been captaining the ODI side for almost a year and half now and over-rate which is much much more essential in ODI cricket and this should've become a second nature trait to his leadership.
I don't even fluster when we loose ODI series after series, Meaningless T20 cups and other bilaterals, however, I just ticked off whenever we mess up a TEST MATCH because at the end of the day, this is real cricket and is not place for experimental captaincies and complacency !!
You either perform or your go home - period !!
