Finn should farm the strike, take all the hard deliveries that he can to waste the new ball.
 
Finn does have shots though. He and Jimmy, while being proper tailenders, have some lovely shots for four and whatnot.
 
Amusing bit of Trivia. Jimmy has 2 sixes to Trott's zero in test cricket.
 
Trent Boult, Shane Bond, Brent Arnel.. Kiwis sure have got a cool naming sense.
 
This is why a nightwatchman can be a good idea. Last thing we want is Johnny and/or KP flopping against the new ball.
 
That was a fantastic delivery by Boult which deserved a wicket, it would have been to good for most top order batsmen so Finn naturally didn't get anywhere near it.

Especially tailenders who have opener batting buddies. Their technique is meant to block.
 
KP on a king pair. Worth a quid on Paddy Power I'd say.

yeah that is why i was hurting for the English fans as a whole when they did not win the bid to host the FIFA world cup in 2018. Be it rugby, cricket or football they always support their team across the world through thick and thin. In that regard they are the best in the world. FIFA missed a golden opportunity to say thank you for your support, here is the world cup in your backyard put your feet up, and enjoy yourselves. Coz they will definately need it 2022. Their media unfortunately annoys me. Still Love the British people though.

I still remember the 99 wc in England, best one ever. Crowds for neutral games were also amazing plus good pitches.

And Finn if Anderson is on at the other end, mainly because I can't see Anderson wanting to play the workhorse and he has seniority.

even during the Olympics they were supporting the Women's Football teams and the capacity was decent. They definately deserve to host any tournament/event they want, they deserve it.

Not sure if the physios would agree with you on that, considering the fact he's only just back from a nasty injury.

The only reason to watch this match now is hoping Compton and Trott will get out soon and we get to see some KP.
 
Compton out, too late for NZ though. Decent innings from Compton, jury still out on him.
 
Cook and Compton have done their task - wiped out the (huge) lead. Lest we forget. This has exceeded expectations.
 
It's clear that looking at this pitch, Rutherford and Compton should not be judged till the end of the series. Absolute pancake.
 
Compton has bought himself this series at least though, which is important for him and also for the stability of our top order.

Not quite making the XI at the moment, but he's a big part of the selector's plans.

Make no mistake, one injury to a batsman and Bairstow is in.

We have an unofficial limit on the amount of Yorkies we can have in the team at one time.
 
Finn usually bats no.11 for us so 20 (70) is already a top effort.

Poor lad Martin has a high score of 25 in First Class cricket, so 50 might be too much for even the Phantom.
 
Hope trott/ finn will get out soon... wanna see Pietersen score run a ball 100 or get a pair

This is a lovely intimate little ground for a test match - it's like Middlesex at Uxbridge, or Yorks at Bradford Park Avenue - a big county's second ground.

Lancs at Aigburth is lovely, absolutely lovely.

I stayed across the street from the Aigburth ground last summer, was very quaint.

I especially liked how close it was to the Mersey river, and nice walkway there, on the rare few days that it wasn't pouring down buckets.
 
Meh. Bob is too restrained in the commentary box. Much prefer him being let out of his strait jacket once in a while to rant in his studio chair.

Pitches like these are ruining test cricket.. leave them for odi's between SL and India..
 
Finn's height and right handedness makes me think it's KP at the crease from afar.
 
with the addition of compton it genuinely does feel like a south african batting line-up now. just saying, not slating.

Strauss for Compton is a one for one trade. Though luckily he's never played for a Saffa team, and his dad is one of THE English greats.

nah cause compton played school cricket in SA, its where he learned his trade. and it shows. he has a saffer accent too.
