What's new

New Zealand's cancelled tour of Pakistan has the West's fingerprints all over it

So what happened to the specific credible threat? Surely they wouldn't come if there was a specific credible threat? What has changed?

It maybe the case that they realised soon after announcing the pull out that the security threat was a hoax. To avoid further embarrassment they kept it under the carpet and just decided to announce that they would tour next year.

Yes I suspect so. Would also explain their refusal to share any even the most basic details of the threat with Pakistani security services.

Blast in peshawar today when the first test with Australia is to be played.

So the threat of NZ team and 5 eyes was very valid.........

What is your logic to link the two?

there was a threat back than.... Which is why they cancelled the toru, but posters claimed it to be a western conspiracy.....

Now the first test of AUstralia going on and blast takes place

Threat against whom?

Threat against whom?
Like alwys major comparing apples with oranges, Did this attack was aimed at Australian team or even nearby them or their hotel or stadium. But yeah it was still kinda direct attack on Oz squad, by Majors weird logic.

Guys who throw Pakistan cricket under the bus because of political agendas are not worthy to be called Pakistan fans.

Major is secretly hoping for Australia to fly back home today

Threat against whom?

The threat was against the nz team offcourse. Posters here bashed nz and claimed it to be a western conspiracy that they cancelled their tour.

Australia first game takes place and a blast happens in peshawar on the same day...

The timing of the attack shows that it being done to indirectly threaten the aussie team.

Australia wont cancel the tour, Mark my words ...... :)

Let's hope so, Finger crossed, but even one more incident like today near Oz team or even one of the host cities (Pindi, Karachi or Lahore) and it will be certain withdrawal, and then sadly we can't even blame them, our Intel and security forces have to really up their game and than hope for the best.

Once the team returns back to the hotel, its going to be an interesting discussion whether they would be showing up back to tomr or not.

A suicide bombing attack happening in the country isn't a small issue.

5 eyes intelligence report saved us back than looks like it and eveyrone doubted it as a western conspiracy.

Think an attack against a certain mosque is not a message directed towards cricketers.

You are needlessly trying to equate 2 different issues.

Lets be a bit more responsible.

Think about it.

If there is a threat then would they be standing around in a field?

it is....

Because you have to look at the timing of the attack. Just on the day when the australian team decides to play its first test game in Pakistan, the attack took place.

The target they choose was the easily accessibile one to the terrorist. Its easy to do a blast in peshawar, and the shias were just used as a hostages in this attack

Think about it.

If there is a threat then would they be standing around in a field?

which is why the next 18 hours would be crucial now.

When the team goes back to the hotel, they will be communicating with the High Commission. Todays night, tomrs morning and the day when the Rawalpindi Test ends will be crucial.

The day they choose to attack cannot be taken lightly.

Cricket Australia monitoring tour situation after deadly suicide bombing in Pakistan

Rawalpindi: Cricket Australia is monitoring a terrorist suicide bomb attack that killed more than 30 worshippers on Friday in Peshawar, a city just two hours from where Australia and Pakistan are playing the first cricket Test between the two nations in the country in 24 years.

A bomb was detonated in the northern city of Peshawar, with local reports saying around 50 people were injured in the blast. It is the same city where Mark Taylor scored his famous unbeaten 334 in 1998.

Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, the former international cricketer, has condemned the blast.

The Australian team is staying in Islamabad for this week’s first Test in Rawalpindi and been given presidential-style security for the duration of the tour. The squad does not travel to Peshawar on the tour, with upcoming games in Karachi and Lahore.

Team officials are monitoring the situation and in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade but there is no suggestion the attack will have any major ramifications for the series, Australia’s first in Pakistan since 1998.

This is the sixth Test Pakistan has hosted since 2019, after international cricket in Pakistan ceased for a decade following an attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009, which came under gunfire while it was being driven to a Test in Lahore.

Local reports say 150 people were inside the Kucha Risaldar mosque in Peshawar during Friday prayers.

Peshawar police chief Muhammed Ejaz Khan reportedly said the violence started when attackers opened fire on police in close proximity to the mosque.

A man then ran inside the mosque and detonated a bomb.

CA and Pakistan Cricket Board have worked tirelessly to make this series become a reality and will be doing everything possible to ensure this latest attack does not derail such a historic series.

More to come

The ideal state of security to the satisfaction of westerners will never be achieved in Pakistan.

What can be achieved is the hundred percent confidence and history of the Pakistani security forces keeping visitors safe in Pakistan via Presidential level security which the PCB and the Pakistani govt have successfully showed in the last 7 years which is why the Australians finally came to Pakistan.

Isolated incidents should not be allowed to result in tours being abandoned. The Pakistani govt should take ruthless action against a few Pakistanis in Pakistan who harm the national interest by acting more gora than gora ie demanding Australians to abandon the tour and leave

I feel for the people of peshawar. MAy their souls rest in peace.

The timing of this seems suspicious but this is a seperate incident in a seperate city, it should have nothing to do with the cricket....i feel for the individuals who have put their heart and soul into reviving cricket in pakistan.

Exactly, and on top of that, most of KPK province including Peshawar isn't exactly known to be safe.

People sitting in western countries wanting the govt to jail dissenters... mashallah

Werent you the one that said that Rameez Raja is soo magnificient because he will be hosting psl matches in peshawar.... yeh not gonna happen now

It is a big possibility that aus don't turn up tomorrow, in light of the pesh suicide attack.
Having lived amongst them for some time I can tell u for a fact that they are a fickle bunch when it comes to security, as things like bomb blast only happen in movies for them lot

it is related to cricket....

The scale of the blast and the timing of it matches is really really a great idea of the motive of the attack.

Maybe entering Pindi/Islamabad was not very easy, but it has create an intelligence crises in rawalpindi today.....

just because they belong from a good country with well maintain law and order doesnt mean we should expect them to play and live through bomb blasts and death threats in this country.

lol fickle bunch....

Indians are mass messaging Cricket Australia, ICC and the Australian players to cancel the series and come home. Let's see how the PCB and Pakistani government handles this.

Yes blame this on the indians already..

When the country fails to protect its people, you have to accep the fact that its your own govt that is at fault.

Australia are well within their right to make any decision they wamt and it has got nothing to do with indians but everything to do with our own govt.

Our govt and spy agencies cant protect its own country. How are foreigners to be safe? By presidential security?

What about the 20 k fans that will be going to the stadium each day, what about their security?

Not sure if it is practical, possible and if Pakistan security have the manpower to do this but all religious places of worship for all religions in the country must be given top notch security by the govt.

Does Pakistan have the resources to do this though?

His logic is bizzare and makes no sense. I thought it was just me that thought his logic was idiotic, but good to see it's not just me.

NZ bail out made sense because of a bomb attack in a known unsafe city, at a mosque, 6 months later?

Not long ago he was unable to grasp the simple nuances around England bailing on their tour, that UK government did not change their guidance for Pakistan tour. He was just stuck on England bailed out = England thought Pakistan was unsafe to tour.

They had an intelligence report and they bailed out.

This attack happening on the day if abtest match shows what the motives. Yes the atrack happened jn another city but the motive needs to be understood.

And who has not understood the motive, what is your point? simply highlighting motive and claiming no one else understand is not the counter.

If there is a bomb blast in Karachi or Lahore, are we going to ban international cricket or the psl in those 2 cities? Life has to go on with Presidential level security

You still dont understand the point do you. A terrorist suicide attack isnt a normal thing where you expect things to go on normally m especially foreigners would not be..

There was a blast in Lahore just before the PSL last month. There were no mass pull outs and security concern hoo haas.

Funny how overseas pakistani are desperately trying to protrat sucidee bombings to be a normal daily part of life

It isn't and no one has try to portray as it normal but you get that point, you aren't that naïve, you just can't admit that fact because it goes against your agenda.

Penciled in for another go :

New Zealand and England, who had cancelled their respective international series in Pakistan last year, are set to return to the country in November 2022 and January 2023, in a packed schedule announced by the PCB on Friday.

Hope we dont go overboard with hospitality for these two teams. Just treat them to the same level they treat u.

They should have just stayed when they had the chance, instead trying to figure out how to fit it in in a packed schedule

According to media reports, not only did the PCB succeed in getting NZCB to play additional games in Pakistan but NZCB also paid financial compensation to the PCB for the losses from the pull out. Ramiz Raja should get credit for this.

As a punishment NZ should be invited for 2 T20s in late July with games starting at 12:30 Noon

If those media reports are accurate, then fair play Ramiz deserves credit.

Yeah I think you are exaggerating Ramiz's role here. Fact of the matter is that NZC's entire reason for pulling out turned out to be a hoax that made them look foolish and stupid in the eyes of the entire world. ECB added to that by giving a completely bogus reason for pulling out, for which they were killed by their own media.

The biggest reason why both boards came running back to the PCB with hat in hand was because they wanted to rehabilitate their image in world cricket which was left destroyed by the English media and average people on social media. For ECB maintaining a relationship with PCB was important too because Pakistan always draws big crowds whenever they tour England.

NZ and ECB should simply be given the amount of security and hospitality that was afforded to Aus nothing more than that. It makes PCB look quite low if we show even more delicacy towards them this time around.

Future tours viability is going to depend on how this new govt settles in.

IK was largely a known quantity with a good reputation for honesty at least overseas (I know next to nothing of Pakistan internal politics or opinions, can only speak to how he was perceived).

There will be a bit of "wait and see" as to whether the new govt can also be trusted and is a stabilising or destabilising effect on security.

Well they are due in Pakistan twice within the next 12 monts.

Start getting the excuses ready...

Little excuses left for NZ after the successful Australia series. Should be fined if they refuse or pull out again

Security is taken care of by the Army and agencies so that excuse might not work. The only genuine political reason would be is if elections correspond at the same time as a tour

In general the govt of a nation state is the body appointing and directing the work of agencies & military as well as influencing the stability or volatility of a nation by virtue of the policies it pursues.

Im sure that the english tour will go ahead as Rob Key is now in charge of proceedings and recently he came to pakistan so he has witnessed everything firsthand, the kiwis on the other hand, i dont know whats up with them but really they should be able to commit this time, if not, then we should forget about them in the near future.

He'll certainly push for the tour to go ahead, but there is no guarantee it will happen.

Any incidents, political volatility will result in the English team not touring......again. It won't take long for them to not go to Pakistan.

Interior minister

Overall security situation will be key, if drone attacks restart under this puppet regime then no one will tour.
