What's new

Newer former cricketers should be inducted in PCB's think-tank not those from 1970s

I think we need new players who recently retired to run pcb for e.g get younis khan to coach U-19 , make Shoaib Akhtar Selector of U-19 , make saeed Ajmal , Roa Iftikhar , Rana naveed, Abdul rehman , Misbah , Shahid Afridi selectors for national team why do we get back to 1970's we got wasim bari to run high performance camp in karachi how would he know modern day cricket

Your suggestions??

If someone is good enough he will perform even past the age of 40. for example look at
Sir Jack Hobbs, Bobby Simpson, Misbah ul Haq who maintained good fitness levels past 40.

And did score runs. Misbah twice scored 99 during last tour of his career and he was edging towards 43.

Skill level matters. And Asad and Azhar were never meant to be great Test players. Just okish players with 40 odd average.

Brother this is thread about selectors and pcb management being recenty retired cricketers

It depends on the person. Obviously you can't dismiss somebody's value simply by what era they played in - you have to assess their knowledge and skill.

However there's no doubt PCB has been occupied by the same names for so many years with no injection of fresh blood.

Wasim Bari, Intikhab Alam, Haroon Rashid and Iqbal Qasim don't have a monopoly on cricket expertise.

Some of these ex-players also have themselves to blame. Why get your hands dirty coaching U19s and U16s for less pay and little recognition when you can earn a good living sitting in an air conditioned studio for PTV, Geo or another outlet talking about what needs to change without any responsibility ?

How about Md Yousuf who wants Azhar and Shafiq in World Cup 2019?
We need honest, passionate, understanding modern day cricket players to represent as selectors.
But most probably Inzi will not go anywhere before 2020. He has too much support from media, formers....

One needs educated cricketers is the system for management. Saeed Anwar’s complete absence from cricket hurt PAK more than one ways; similarly, Imran also went complete wilderness after retirement.

I honestly think some one like a Bazid Khan would be a great selector instead of the clueless Inzamam.

His knowledge on Pakistan domestic cricket and junior cricket is better than any of the so called pundits we see every day.

PCB has a civility issue. They don't like the lack of subtlety in recently retired cricketers. Cricketers from the gone by era, especially the ones who frequently got PCB assignments, are more diplomatic in their work ethics. That is why Haroon Rashid, Intikhab Alam (though he was relatively successful) and Waseem Bari kept receiving assignments despite failing repeatedly, whereas Miandad didn't fare well in PCB. PCB has the same problem with YK.

he still could have played till 2005ish

Akhtar it seems has already been picked as the coach and selector for the u-19 team. Misbah should continue his role in the board but with more authority. Wasim Akram should be replaced with Bazid, since I doubut he actually give his duties much time.. Atiq-uz-Zaman and Abur Rehman also need to be given role in the coaching setup. More importantly there shoudl be efforts creating an overarching structure for coordination amongs the club, first-class, and international coaches and selectors.

Nonsense.

Pakistani selection doesn't work that way. All this talk of systems and processes and new age cricketers and 'thinking management' is utter waste of time. Has never worked here, will never work.

Pakistan needs 'Personalities. Someone like Kardar, Noor Khan or Imran Khan - who can bend whatever our 'system' is to his will. Otherwise, these newly retired cricketers will seep to the bottom of our rotten structure.

You think people like Mani can back their own team when pushed against the wall? I am pretty sure he will form a committee.

So here is my solution - 'Hope for such a man to come to the fore!'
