On This Day - March 27, 1982 - Imran Khan took 14/116, the best Test match figures for a Pakistani

Before that devastating shin injury in 1983, the years between 1981 & mid 1983, Imran was at his bowling peak with full control of swing and consistent at 90+ mph. No doubt he was the best fast bowler at that time. To bad he lost 2 vital years of his career. He he been fit to bowl, he would have single-handedly destroyed Australia Down-Under in 1983-84.

Such a shame that injury curtailed Imrans bowling at his peak, by far the best ever cricketer we have ever produced and his ability to shine on asian wickets was a testiment to the quality of bowler he was.

Not only did he won us matches, it was also his never say die attitude combined with charisma and an intellegent brain....the perfect role model. Too bad the current generation has to follow Afridi.:afridi

The greatest there ever was and there ever will be. :ik

I remember seeing that match. Ball was reversing like a boomerang. If we had the TV coverage we have today, wonder what all would have been picked up!

One of the all time great Pakistani performances but Khan had superior performances against superior teams. As an all rounder, only Sobers is his true competition, as a fast bowler, especially in tests, he breathes rarified air, only touched by Wasim, Waqar, Lillee and Marshall. McGrath doesn't quite get the nod because he was never truly fast.

On this day 1982. Imran Khan ended with match figures of 14-116 at Lahore versus Sri Lanka. The figures remain the best ever in Tests by a Pakistani.

6 of the dismissals were bowled.

You have left out the main part of the story!

Pakistan's senior players - Imran Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Mohsin Khan and Mudassar Nazar - had mutinied against the appalling captaincy of Javed Miandad and the win-at-all-costs mentality which has now just brought down Steve Smith.

The first two Tests against Test new boys Sri Lanka were played without them and went badly.

Javed Miandad then announced his unavailability to skipper the upcoming tour to England, at which point Imran Khan became the designated Captain-Elect and made his triumphant return to the team.

And for the next 10 years, the team lost only one series under Imran's captaincy (unless you count the 83-84 tour of Australia which Zaheer Abbas lost).

They are unbelievable figures. Having played ICC for years on which my Pakistan saves have gone on for decades and several records broken. I even have a 1000 run partnership in one save.

I have never managed to better Imran's figures.

Or Qadir's figures - 9-fer in an innings.

Amazing bowler - amazing athlete!

In Lahore, Imran Khan demolished Sri Lanka in Pakistan's innings victory, taking 8 for 58 and 6 for 58. His match figures are the best by a Pakistani, and the best by a seam bowler on the subcontinent. Imran also became the first Pakistani to take 150 Test wickets.
