What's new

Osama Bin Laden is DEAD

I foresee a civil war in Pak in the not too distant future....

Outside forces then being "forced" to come into Pak....

to "save" the Nukes...

All the while... our elite are oblivious and lining their pockets..... :(

US came to afghanistan to hunt for OBL, now their main objective being met, will they quit afghanistan?

I hope US will not be leaving Afghanistan soon. The mission is not finished yet. There are still plenty of Talibans which are against the government and want to use deadly force against the civilian targets.

Not really yaar. If you are a fugitive, will you ever go and hide in a police cantonment near a police station? Unless you have some help from police ? :)

Sometimes being in a place where one least expects you to be is the right place. Abbotabad was a good hiding spot for him in a sense that that's were the military bases are and you would never expect him to be around that area. And for Osama that was a safe house as he knew that the place was safe from US armies and drones.

That would be much easier for Pakistani govt and army I would say. Have they ever cared about their citizens ? Why would they bother now?

I am almost certain that this will be end of people's party and they will have absolutely no support from people of Pakistan...if they don't care about people's vote then that's different.

Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden The United States did not notify the Pakistani government about the US operation that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, says a US official. Late on Sunday, US President Barack Obamaannounced that bin Laden was killed by US forces after he was found hiding in a compound in Pakistan. “We shared this intelligence on the compound with no other country, including Pakistan," the unnamed US official said, AFP reports. The official added that the reason for not sharing intelligence with Islamabad was “the need to maintain complete secrecy” about the operation. During the Sunday US operation that killed bin Laden, three other men -- including a son of the al-Qaeda leader -- and a woman were also killed. “In addition to Osama bin Laden, three adult males were killed in the raid,” anotherunnamed US official said earlier, adding that one of them was believed to be an adult son of bin Laden. Two other women were also injured in the raid that lasted less than 40 minutes, the official added. The announcement of bin Laden's death comes almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the United States. On September 11, 2001, a series of coordinated attacks were carried out in theUnited States, leaving almost 3,000 people dead. During the incident, 19 reported "al-Qaeda terrorists" hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners and crashed two of them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.

It would be obvious to the Pak. Gov. of the operation. They probably did know about it. From Obamas speech: "Pakistan helped lead us to Bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding." If Pakistan knew that USA knew where OBL was then chances are they knew USA was going to take action.

I was thinking the same. Next what we may see is

1. US getting out of this region. Good for all of us but not gonna happen.

2. US foot soldiers getting inside pakistan more like today as it have given them more reason to do so. Pakistan facing more pressure to accept that. This will be bad for Pak civilians and to general growth of the country.

3. Same drone attacks continues without really soldiers getting inside Pakistan. This would again leave everyone in a hung position to when US will go back ?

Pakistan is one step closer to becoming anarchaic...

Ironically all Osama's death does is make Pakistan even more dangerous than it already is...

Yes and no. Its not about an unknown thief. This guy is recognized by every tom, dick and harry in this world.

Do you think he went their without any help from anyone in the defence ? Even if the official support was not there, it can not be possible for someone like him to go and stay without any unofficial support from somone influential.

I am almost certain that this will be end of people's party and they will have absolutely no support from people of Pakistan...if they don't care about people's vote then that's different.

That's why I said Pak govt is in a situation now. So they have to choose the best option for them (personally profitable).

You must be really anti-american for wanting america to be wasting billions on a monthly basis on an existential war and supposedly deterring a nonexisting threat, while it's economy is in the doldrums and many a public and social service as well as america's infrastructure suffering immensely...US is bankrupt, it cannot sustain a war that is has already lost...

Maybe US is economicallly not as strong as it was few years ago but I am sure when it comes to national security US will take every possible step to secure.

Obviously Pakistani forces are considered not good enough for such attacks. American troops were flown all the way from Afghanistan in the middle of the night to perform this action which they successfully did and took his body with them. This is how special forces are suppose to operate.

Can shut up u Indian troll. What do you mean Pakistani troops are not good enough ? We have some of the best around so shut ur mouth if you have nothing good to say. The reason why America carried out the operation is cause Osama killed 3000 of their citizens - they did not want Pakistani troops to take credit. Unfortunately Pakistan has a corrupt sell out like Zardari as their president who does not have any balls to stop America violating Paks sovereignty.

lmaoooo ...so u think americans can defete the talibans ....americans should invade iran and bring democracy there now and kill the lunitic amadenajad who thinks some holy freakish imam is always with him lol

Secure against what? there is no security threat to US...at least not one that warrants over 700 billion dollars expenditure per year...

You don't get it...it's all about military industrial complex and the neo cons, on both sides of aisle lining their pockets and toeing the extremist likudite line...

Why are you getting so upset after the death of OBL???? If Pakistani troops were up to the mark, I think Pakistani military and the government were or should have been the first ones to report to the outside world about this incident. Nothing against Pakistani forces but I am not sure if they are capable of performing such an operation with this precision. Relax.....

I don't think so to be honest :)

If I were at his place, I will never go and live in a very high profile area in a considerable big house, sorrounded by people who are hunting for me. naaaaa would prefer a place where I can have an escape route and not a place where I can be sorrounded (unless I know that I am secure).

Please don't take the statements regarding "American Forces conducting the operation" at face value

Lets admit it, even if Pakistani forces have taken a meaningful part in all this (which to be honest with you is the only way U.S could kill such a figure in Pakistan) it would be lethal for us to admit it in the media because if we do then we should be ready to face the back lash for such an act from the Talibans, who even bomb Peshawar when we host Hilary Clinton in Pakistan.

and just to confirm that it wasn't that the army was totally aloof from all this, here is a tweet from some one living in Abbotabad as posted by The hindu

Akhtar tweeted that a taxi driver had told him of the Army cordoning off the area and conducting door-to-door searches

I am not sure how you are coming to these conclusions. Every country has security threats. Don't think that only Afghanistan or Iraq pose the security threats to the US, it can be a person or an organization or a country. Those who are spending all this money are fully aware of all this and are making decision knowing all the consequences.

Any ideas why his body was buried at sea?

First no Islamic country would be willing to accept his body or give me the ground for his buriel. Second, US does not want him to be burried where people can go and and visit his grave, thus fueling more sentiments amongst the followers of his organization.

Some guy Haroon Rashid came on to give the Pak perspective...

He stated that Pak knew that there was an operation that the Americans wanted to run and that Pakistan helped facilitate it...BUT they didnt know the identity of the target...

And more would come out later...

So essentially Americans got Pakistan help but didnt trust Pakistan in terms of revealing the target because they dont trust Pakistan completely...

Seems Pakistan would prefer to present itself as incompetent to save itself from a backlash from militants and worldwide scrutiny...

The Americans are happy to take all the glory in exchange...

Talking to you is simply a waste of time. Making a point is one thing but talking nonsense is another. You fit that billet.

Why did they kill him and throw his body out to sea? They should of captured him, questioned him and then killed him, what are these Americans doing??
and why didnt pakistan suspect anything??

Maybe you are following the news story. During the attack OBL got killed by a bullet. He was not going to surrender and as a result he got killed. I am sure US would loved to have this guy captured alive.

This has turned in to more of a Match Commentary thread, than a thread that should be in Time Pass.

yup just following the news, thanks for the update!

BREAKING NEWS: US AFGHANISTAN PLANS US has touted plan as a long-term military presence up to 25 years

Once a person's dead, he should be buried in the correct manner, he could have been buried in Pakistan.

That could be one view of an analyst but the fact is that Pakistani military in the past has failed on such missions. For example, SAMAA news network is reporting that few months back Pakistani intel agencies went to search the very same house and they reported that there are only women and children living there. I am not sure that they are not telling the truth but looking at it now it is possible that someone did not do the job right.

What is so 'Islamic' about disposing the body in the sea? Are they taking the ***s or something?

When I heard the news, I was eagerly looking for a headline saying the war will be end soon but seems like they're making Pakistan look like the new target now that Osama is done.

But will the militants accept the same theory that Pakistan has little to do with it?

Ps. 90% PPers out here are rejecting the theory that Pakistan was unaware about all what was happening and was blindly following the US directives...

Do you really think that Pakistani government would be telling them to let him bury somewhere in Pakistan??? BTW, which place do you have in mind where you want Osama Bin Laden to be burried????

officials said. "When we saw the compound where the brothers lived, we were shocked by what we saw: an extraordinarily unique compound," a senior administration official said. "The bottom line of our collection and our analysis was that we had high confidence that the compound harbored a high-value terrorist target. The experts who worked this issue for years assessed that there wasa strong probability that the terrorist who was hiding there was Osama bin Laden," another administration official said. The home is in Abbotabad, a town about 35 miles (60 km) north of Islamabad, that is relatively affluent and home to many retired members of Pakistan's military. The building, about eight times the size of other nearby houses, sat on a large plot of land that was relatively secluded when it was built in 2005. When it was constructed, it was on the outskirts of Abbotabad's center, at the end of a dirt road, but some other homes have been built nearby in the six years since it went up, officials said. Intense security measures included 12- to 18-foot (3.6 meters to 5.5 meters) outer walls topped with barbed wire and internal walls that sectioned off different parts of the compound, officials said. Two security gates restricted access, and residents burned their trash, rather than leaving it forcollection as did their neighbors, officials said. Few windows of the three-story home faced the outside of the compound, and a terrace had a seven-foot (2.1 meter) privacy wall, officials said. "It is also noteworthy that the property is valued at approximately $1 million but has no telephone or Internet service connected to it," an administration official said. "The brothers had no explainable source of wealth." U.S. analysts realized that a third family lived there in addition to the two brothers, and the age and makeup of the third family matched those of the relatives - including his youngest wife - they believed would be living with bin Laden. "Everything we saw, the extremely elaborate operational security, the brothers' background and their behavior and the location of the compound itself wasperfectly consistent with what our experts expected bin Laden's hide-out to look like," another Obama administration official said. A small US team conducted a helicopter raidon the compound on Sunday afternoon, officials said. After 40 minutes of fighting, bin Laden and an adult son, one unidentifiedwoman and two men - identified as the courier and his brother - were dead, officials said, and Obama was preparing a television address to the nation. Abbotabad is a popular summer resort, located in a valley surrounded by green hills near Pakistani Kashmir. Islamist militants, particularly those fighting in Indian-controlled Kashmir , used to have training camps near the town.

Anywhere. After all, he was a Muslim.

Stop lying u Indian troll ! If you read my first post in this thread you will know I'm glad Osama is dead as He killed so many Pakistanis.
But I'm sick of ur anti-Pakiatani posts. You know nothing about Pakistani forces so shut your mouth. They could have easily wiped him out, indeed they should have done but for reasons posted in my 2nd we know why they did not, even your pea sized brain should figure that out.

you serious?

The majority of Afghan tribal leaders have announced their opposition to having strategic partnership with the United States to Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Afghanistan's tribal grand assembly has rejected US strategic cooperation which would allow permanent US military bases inthe country, a Press TV correspondent reported. Afghani government officials were reportedly among supporters of the partnership, while the majority of country's tribal leaders opposed it.

But will the militants accept the same theory that Pakistan has little to do with it?

Ps. 90% PPers out here are rejecting the theory that Pakistan was unaware about all what was happening and was blindly following the US directives...

I don't think anyone will take this ridiculous story as truth but then thats one possible official explanation they will give...

No-one is going to believe they could be so incompetent to not know Osama was in the country...and no-one is going to therefore believe that they didn't have an important role in apprehending him...

The US however will still maintain its glory and Pakistan will end up having to answer why Osama was living as he was and will also be victims of the enraged militants...

why is it not possible? how hard it is to disguise oneself.

A $ 1 million mansion built in a place where other houses were hardly two stories high. A compound with walls 12 to 15 feet high. Armed gaurds at the gates. You really think that wont be suspicious and investigated? And if US, from their country, can find out that Osama was hiding here, surely ISI is not so incompetent

Obama mentioned in his speech that Pakistani's helped the CIA in gathering intelligence with regards to the OBL Operation.

What i find more interesting is that, how the world's most wanted terrorist was living just 1 KM away from Pakistan's most prestigious military acadmey.

Heads should roll in the Pakistani military establishment.

Thrown in the sea is going to lead to a serious backlash...it was necessary to complete his burial in the correct manner...throwing him in the sea is only going to enflame militancy further in the country...

ISI has some rogue elements in its ranks who symphatise with Al Qaida and some factions of the Taliban, they might have shielded him.

My Uncle just rang from Pakistan saying that he was in the place where this whole thing happened. And weirdly enough, yesterday he said that when he was at a mosque, he saw a man who looked a lot like Osama Bin Laden...
Scary stuff.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India said the killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan underlined its "concern that terrorists belonging to different organizations find sanctuary in Pakistan," according to a statement from the home ministry on Monday. India also reiterated calls for Pakistan to arrest those behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks which killed 166 people and derailed a sluggish peace process between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

They should have burried him in some undisclosed location if they want to avoid ppl know his place of burrial.

But anyway, personally I have no problem with him going into the sea when he never cared about mass killing of innocents.

RAMALLAH/GAZA (Reuters) – The Western-backed Palestinian Authority said on Monday the killing of al Qaeda leader Osamabin Laden by U.S. forces was "good for the cause of peace." There was no immediate reaction from the rival Hamas Islamist movement which governs the Gaza Strip. Hamas is critical of U.S. policy in the Middle East and deeply hostile to Israel. "Getting rid of bin Laden is good for the cause of peace worldwide but what counts is to overcome the discourse and the methods -- the violent methods -- that werecreated and encouraged by bin Laden and others in the world," PA spokesman Ghassan Khatib said. Palestinians hit the headlines after the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, carried out by al Qaeda, when a small group were filmed celebratingin East Jerusalem. At the time, there were bigger demonstrations in the Gaza Strip in support of the attacks. Palestinians partly blame their national plight on U.S. support for Israel. However, the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat banned such public displays and voiced sympathy for the dead in the United States. In Ramallah, the PA's view was shared by Ahmed Saleh, a 58-year-old retired Palestinian. "The world is better without bin Laden. It has removed a pillar of evil from the world," he said. "His heinous actions were exploited to allow hostile policies toward the Arabs and Muslims." But Umm Mohammed, a veiled woman, saidshe hoped news of bin Laden's death was a lie. "God willing, he will continue to conquer the West," she said. In Gaza, Hamas now faces a challenge from al Qaeda-inspired groups that consider it too moderate. One such group was behind last month's killing of a pro-Palestinian Italian activist in the territory. Abdel-Qader Abu Shaaban, a 53-year-old Palestinian from Gaza, described bin Laden's killing as "a very criminal act." "This is not a victory. If they assassinated bin Laden, there will be others stronger than him: politicians and military people," he said.

Here is what one Pakistani observer has to say about OBL's death.

It's very clear that he was living in comfort and that he was protected by the security forces of Pakistan. Any other explanation beggars belief. This demonstrates just how powerless the civilian govt really is. Even when Pakistanis were be...ing murdered by the thousands, even when the now-President's own wife was assassinated, they still couldn't arrest this guy? Do these guys have any bones at all? Or are they invertebrates? Did the Americans know where he was, all this time? Was his continued life an excuse for all sides to continue to engage in what seems to be their prime raison d'etre - the prosecution of continuous war? Who knows? In this circus of blood, almost anything is possible. I think that there must be serious questions asked, all round now. But yes, mainly of the Pakistani security establishment who seem engaged in a war on their own people. Should they not be brought down now, finally, once and for all and definitively removed from power (after all, we know that they rule the state)? Is this a chance for the civilian govt to develop a backbone? Defenestrate the Army/ISI, the whole damned toxic morass? What should have happened in 1971? Should there not now be a coup d'etat, with the permanent removal of the Army et al from civil life and from the economy?

They should have burried him in some undisclosed location if they want to avoid ppl know his place of burrial.

But anyway, personally I have no problem with him going into the sea when he never cared about mass killing of innocents.

Can you appreciate how Pakistani's dont want this situation to be any worse than it is...

American's have no right to throw Osama's body in the sea...it is not their place to decide how someone should be buried...

Its a stunt to **** people off...the fact is you don't care about his burial but militants do and will be furious at this step...and the victims of the fury will be Pakistani's...

The first one is what I feel US should have done.

The second line is my personal. Can you see the difference?

just watching ary news. They showed footage of the attack on the compound with night vision. There was gun fire and missiles. Its hard to believe how the compound still stands.

The Western military alliance's secretary general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen , said in a statement NATO should continue its missionin Afghanistan to ensure it "never again becomes a safe haven for extremism." "This is a significant success for the securityof NATO Allies and all the nations which have joined us in our efforts to combat the scourge of global terrorism to make the world a safer place for all of us," Rasmussen said. Merkel: The US has made a decisive strike on al Qaida German Chancellor Angela Merkel* told US President Barack Obama on Monday that she was relieved about the assassination, according to a statement released by her spokesman . "The United States had succeeded in making a decisive strike against al Qaida," Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert said. But the chancellor warned that international terrorism has not yet been defeated. "Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her relief about this news to US President Barack Obama," Seibert said. "Osama bin Laden was responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people...The forces of peace were successfullast night. International terror has not been defeated. We'll all have to remain vigilant." Cameron: Death of al Qaida leader is a 'great relief' The death of al Qaida leader Osama bin Laden will bring "great relief" across the world, British Prime Minister David Cameronsaid on Monday. "Osama bin Laden was responsible for the worst terrorist atrocities the world has seen - for 9/11 and for so many attacks, which have cost thousands of lives, many of them British. It is a great success that he has been found and will no longer be able topursue his campaign of global terror," Cameron said in a statement. "The news that Osama bin Laden is dead will bring great relief to people across the world," he said. Bush: Hit is a 'momentous achievement' Former President George W. Bush , who was in office at the time of the Sept. 11 attacks and famously said he wanted Osama bin Laden dead or alive, on Sunday called the death of the al Qaida leader a "momentous achievement." President Barack Obama called Bush in Dallas at 9:04 p.m. central time to inform him that bin Laden was dead and they spoke for four minutes, a Bush spokesman said. The Sept. 11 attacks were a defining moment of Bush's presidency . He launched the war in Afghanistan and the hunt for bin Laden spanned the rest of his presidency. "This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001," Bush said in a statement. "The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done," he said. Bloomberg: Bin Laden killing 'doesn't lessen the suffering experienced at his hands' In New York, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that he hoped the dramatic killing would comfort those who lost loved ones that day. "The killing of Osama bin Laden does not lessen the suffering that New Yorkers and Americans experienced at his hands, but it is a critically important victory for our nation - and a tribute to the millions of men and women in our armed forces and elsewhere who have fought so hard for our nation," he said in a statement. Russia's Kremlin released their own statement, which said, "Revenge is inescapable for all terrorists. Only a joint struggle against global terrorism can bring a result," it added. "Russia is ready to increase its cooperation." PA: Killing 'good for the cause of peace' The Palestinian Authority also issused a statement on Monday, saying the killing was "good for the cause of peace". "Getting rid of Bin Laden is good for the cause of peace worldwide but what counts is to overcome the discourse and the methods - the violent methods - that were created and encouraged by Bin Laden and others in the world," PA spokesman Ghassan Khatib said.

to the Indian trolls, plz shut your traps and worry about your own problems..

Firstly the ISI was involved in the planning of this operation..pasha met panetta on April the 11th and this was one topic of discussion..the ISI had located OBl and a joint op was carried out to elimnate the target..

ISI ground teams were involved..you can see them in the geo report for a few seconds..

Zardari was not informed till later..the americans realise his time is up..

Ssg personell were also involved..

The mission was carried out using teams based at tarbela ghazi

these are the basic facts..I must say cnn's reporti g has been ver objective but the BBC and the uk media are being their pro India selves..luckily there is a vote on Thursday and as usual people will forget after 2moro..

Garuda please stop talking out of your behind and stop playing the nice Indian routine here!!

So I've been wondering... the guy who HS'd him will get the 20 something million price on Osama?

My apologies...

Yeah it should have been an undisclosed location...

Announcing that he is to be thrown in the sea was never going to end well...

Naturally their argument will be no-one was willing to take his body but throwing him in the sea is just plain provocative...

to the Indian trolls, plz shut your traps and worry about your own problems..

BENGHAZI - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi should face the same fate as al Qaia's Osama bin Laden who was killed in a firefight with U.S. forces , a Libyan rebel spokesman said on Monday. "We are very happy and we are waiting for the next step. We want the Americans to dothe same to Gaddafi," said rebel military spokesman Colonel Ahmed Bani.

gaddhafi is a legend

With Moammar Gadhafi in hiding as coalition aircraft bomb his country, he's counting on protection from a unique bodyguard corps he's been training for decades -- an all-female, gun-toting posse of virgins.

About 40 lipsticked, bejeweled bodyguards surround the Libyan dictator at all times. They wear designer sunglasses and high heels with their military camouflage. But they're purported to be trained killers -- graduates of an elite military academy in Tripoli that's solely for women.

then the US must have killed michael waugh

:)))

The thing is Al quaea,Taliban ,Osam bin laden and America are one thing. This is all part of one major game plan. Why don't we see another 9/11??Why only innocent people are killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan? If Alqaeda was that strong then why didn't they repeat anything like that to show their strengths??

We have to say no to the war on Terror and we should allow our own to control law and orders.

Yup, they should not have announced that to world. It was not needed and not going to help anyone.

New Delhi: India* said the killing of global terrorist Osama bin Laden was a matter of grave concern as it proved that terrorists belonging to different groups find sanctuaryin Pakistan. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said ina statement that perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks, including the controllers and handlers of the terrorists, continue to be sheltered in Pakistan. He said that earlier today the US government informed New Delhi that Osama bin Laden had been killed by securityforces somewhere "deep inside Pakistan." Bin Laden took a path of fanaticism and terror "After the September 11, 2001 terror attack, the US had a reason to seek Osama bin Laden and bring him and his accomplices to justice," the statement said. "We take note with grave concern that partof the statement in which President (Barack) Obama said that the fire fight in which Osama bin Laden was killed took place in Abbotabad 'deep inside Pakistan'. "This fact underlines our concern that terrorists belonging to different organisations find sanctuary in Pakistan," he said. The Home Minister said in the wake of this incident "we believe that perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks, including the controllers and handlers of the terrorists who actually carried out the attack, continue to be sheltered in Pakistan.
