I know these are depressing times but I am hopeful for the future

In specific , our fast-bowlers in the next World Cup will a sight to behold

Mohammad Amir will be the leader of the pack but what he will have to support him will be maturer versions of

Shaheen Shah Afridi
Naseem Shah
Mohammad Musa
Mohammad Hasnain

A few more years of development by the PCB and we will be troubling a few batting lineups in the next World Cup

I do not know if Amir will even be selected next WC. You never know. He is declining a bit physically. He stepped it up in the WC, but he won't be given another chance like that in 4 years unless he performs.

More important is we should focus on trying to win the T20WC with the sort of bowling attack we have. We have some really good attacking wicket taking bowlers. We need to first go for the next big comp which is the T20 WC. We can do it if we keep the same type of bowling lineup with some changes in the batting.

I am not so sure about Mohammad Hasnain to be honest. Next world cup is long way away. It is too early to think about it at this stage, and to be fair in this world cup, Pakistan's bowling was ok. we got knocked out due to 105 against West Indies or a run chase against Aussies.
It is about batting, which has failed us in 2007,2011,2015,2019 world cup exits. I mean in main eliminator matches our batting messed it up big time. ireland 2007, india mohali, australia 2015, west indies/australia matches 2019.

One more thing i want to mention is that Next world cup is in India. Spin will carry more threat not fast bowling. The only way it can impact is, if ICC Change the rules and allow 1 ball per 50 overs, then reverse swing can come into picture.

Apologies - this is not to say that other sides in the world will be sitting twiddling their thumbs! I am just looking at our guys.

I am sorry but all Pakistani conversations are tied to caveats of 'rebuilding' or 'next event' or some such.

It will be great if the team moves on from 'next' to 'results now'.

These fast bowlers might or might not become big. It's all a big if.

For every Shaheen, Pakistan has many Hassan Ali's, Ehsan Adil's, Bilawal Bhatti's, Anwar Ali's who all had tremendous promise.

There is genuine talent in all of the bowlers we have - they arent trundlers but actual quickmen.

More people need to realise Haris Rauf's potential as a limited overs bowler,
Pakistan won't have a shortage of 90 mph bowlers that's for sure.

I am confident that we won’t see most of these bowlers in the next WC. Maybe Amir and Shaheen Afridi.

india would have a world class bowling attack as well just like they do at present.

bumrah
mavi
nagarkoti
shami (apparently only 28 rofl? )

Yes I do believe we will be a better unit for the next WC.

Results will start coming soon, have some patience. We actually have some decent young cricketers at our disposal after a long time.

Its not only Pakistan every country have lost talented cricketers who show a lot of promise early in their careers before not living upto those standads.

Hassan Ali is 25 so I wont right him off as of now.

Coming to few other names you have mentioned, Ehsan Adil was a seam bowler with decent accuracy and extracting bit of bounce with his height but he was never really pacy and started at around 127-132 kph range and now he is consistently at 135-140 kph but has been struggling with his usual accuracy for couple of years. Still a decent prospect for certain surfaces if he is worked with.

Bilawal Bhatti was pacy and thats just about it, he didnt have control over swing with new ball, overall accuracy was also not upto the mark and not to forget he had disadvantage of being too short for a pacer. He is still pacy but I have mentioned multiple times that pace alone is not enough.

Anwer Ali's action had to be remodeled because of the strain it caused on his back and back issues with it, though it was arguable if it was a good decision or not as its pretty common for teenage bowlers to have stress fractures but they generally become stronger around 23-24 years of age. So after his remodeled action he didnt have the same angle and shape on the ball and he focused more upon becoming an all rounder.

4-5 years is a long, long, long time in Pak cricket.

A player gets in, performs, then fades away. Story of Pak cricket of last 16 odd years.

I agree that if everything goes well Pak would have one of the most potent pace bowling battery for the next world cup.

Batting is also looking decent with some upcoming batsmen as well. We need to find some options in spin department as well (Actually we do have who should be groomed) and one good pace bowling all rounder (Abbas Afridi from U19 team looks like a decent prospect).

Mavi and Nagarkoti are both completely broken.

Maybe they will do a Cummins and make a strong comeback but also likely they won't.

Navdeep Saini is more ready than either of them.

Not impressed with hasnain and haven't watched the other two. Shaheen is no doubt talented kid and I will be very surprised if he doesn't grow into a top quality bowler.

Hasan Ali will be like Wahab Riaz of today in next World Cup - he may or may not show up or get selected.

Hasnain is also 19 years old only. Every kid doesnt develop at the same pace like Shaheen. In 2 years he will be a top performer. He can clock 150 clicks which is enough talent to work with.

This is why I said give it another 4 years of development.

Why doesn't Pakpassion get all these upcoming speedsters together and interview them all in one place? Hasnain, Shaheen, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Musa and maybe even Arshad Iqbal? What a great competition between pacers it will be. Everyone trying to out bowl the other in terms of pace and wickets.

bhai what's naseem what's top speed and also musa?

Maybe but from little I have seen he looks like Mohamad Sami. If he can learn to swing and seam the ball off right areas at high pace then he will overcome his height disadvantage and be a top quality bowler. Time will tell, needs a good mentor and this is where I think Shoaib will be handy.

India have some amazing batsmen coming through the ranks. Will be very interesting battle...

I am not sure about his pace but According to some of the coaches who have worked with Naseem Shah, he is the fastest among the lot. If Hasnain clocked 150kph, that makes Naseem too a 150kph bowler at the very least. Musa clocked 148 kph in PSL.

Height disadvantage? But Hasnain is quite tall isnt he?

niceeee. I like it. hasnain musa and naseem.
Hopefully their average speed can be maintained at around 140. These days even the fastest bowlers average arou d 142. starc is only 142 -143 on average. rabada is like 140. wahab can hit 141 - 142 on average. bumrah like 139.

5 feet 11. same height as shoaib. tall enough. more than tall enough. under 5'11 would be a problem. Don't know why but that seems to be the case. maybe leverages make the difference.

how tall are naseem shah and mohammad musa ? Height is often a handicap for fast bowlers.

None of the guys mentioned in that post will clock 150 on average either.

Starc, Rabada, Bumrah all hit 150 with their effort balls.

that's why I said I will be happy with 140 average bro lol. 150 I wish. We will never see bowlers that fast on average anymore.

Next world cup? In 4 years time? Yikes

Too long a wait for me. Cant be bothered for that.

Should have done better this world cup but noooo we didnt and the team along with the naive fans are satisfied with a 5th place finish.

And I doubt our fast bowlers will do that great anyway

Its all hype. Nothing else.

I always thought he is 6+ and tall enough. Thats why i was surprised when the poster talked about his height disadvantage.

Yes if we could get 140 average pace bowlers who can ocassionally bowl at 145 average pace when on song, it will be a world class attack.

Height disadvantage? But Hasnain is quite tall isnt he?

Is he? Looked 5'8-5'9 to me. Maybe I am wrong through like I said I haven't seen him enough. If he's 6 feet plus then he got everything to succeed just need hard work and guidance

Weren't Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali supposed to be the next great pak Pacers? What happened to them, I would hold on to those horses right now.

Isnt’t the next WC in India? Better look to find some quality spinners first and foremost.

Fast bowlers will not be a problem, there will even pop up new names which no one has heard about by now.

Next world cup is in India on spin friendly wickets .
No one will give a rats *** to fast bowling !!

Usama and Zafar are already there. The later has been the best on the country for quite a while now.

The merry go round in Pakistan cricket will ensure that by the next WC we would not had develop any players let alone a squad and there will be hush hush to select players and we might be calling Tanvir Ahmed out of retirement to bail us out on slow tracks of India :)))

Weren't Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali supposed to be the next great pak Pacers? What happened to them, I would hold on to those horses right now.

No expert ever predicted them to be great. Hassan was outstanding when he was in form and rythm but he wasnt someone picked in his teenage (Never played an U 19 WC) and wasnt considered as someone destined for greatness. Its his sheer hardwork that he has achieved decent success in career.

Abbas is still playing test and is doing pretty well as you can see from his avg of under 20. Again we wasnt a child prodigy rather a late boomer and became international cricketer with hardwork not raw talent.

Shaheen, Naseem Shah, Musa and Hasnaian were picked at pretty young age due to obvious talent for a youngster. So there is a clear difference between the guys you are comparing.

Hasnain is 6.1 ft plus so height isnt an issue there. Further I would say 18 year old pacer bowling at 150+ KPH on occasions as a prodigy. At the same time I agree he needs to work hard on his seam position, accuracy and swing as pace itself isnt enough but its not very common for 18 years olds to bowl 150 (Rare examples are there though)

Pakistan is quite good at unearthing fast bowler. Our batting lets us down. The spin bowling Find a few quality batsmen and two decent spinners and Pakistan will be in business.

A year ago everyone thought Hassan would he leading the pace attack in the WC. Now you're talking about how 3 teenage bowlers who have barely played beyond under-19 will be the envy of the world.

4 years is a long time, there's a long long way to go before any part of the Pakistani team is the envy of the world.

Shaheen is definitely quality thou

I am surprised you didint mention Harris Rauf... who is by far more ready for international cricket than mist mentioned names here.. if we have to pick 4 seamers, my choice would be Shaheen Shah, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf , Aamir (Aamir depending on how he holds himself or else Muhammad Husnain)

Keeping in mind, the next WC is in india .... spin needs to play a big option ... so more focus should be on spin

More concerned about our spin stocks than fast bowling. Our spinners are very mediocre and none of them are even half as good as KulCha.

As for pacers, Amir should restrict himself to ODIs (and occasional T20I), so he can manage his fitness going into the 2023 WC. Shaheen is my favourite player in the side and I hardly ever set my hopes up for someone in the infancy of their career, however I have backed him before his international debut, because I knew he had all the ingredients to become a champion fast bowler. He should aim to increase his pace a touch and improve his bouncer, then you’ll see a finished article imo.

We need a right-armer to diversify the composition of the pace attack and Hasan Ali is not the solution. He never had a high ceiling because of his lack of height. At 5”7, your margin for error is much smaller and you need to be bowling 145+. Another very short bowler, Bilawal Bhatti standing at 5”6 was able to maintain these speeds, until he inevitably got injured and broke down because it was physically too much take. Now he’s a mid to high 130s bowler. Hasan Ali needs to be told by the management he doesn’t have a future as a standalone bowler and should work on his batting. If he can become a genuine lower order hitter, he might have w future in the team.

Wahab gave his all and I thought he bowler better than his stats showed because there were at least 5-6 dropped catches off his bowling. He’s getting on a bit, so we need to replace him with the best find out of: Haris Rauf Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Muhammad Musa etc.

It failed in decent conditions versus Australia and India. Another reason why we didn't qualify. Needed early wickets in those games.

Hopefully we will have better bowler than 5-7 Musa, someone not that short.

One more thing i want to mention is that Next world cup is in India. Spin will carry more threat not fast bowling. The only way it can impact is, if ICC Change the rules and allow 1 ball per 50 overs, then reverse swing can come into picture.
ICC may go back to using one ball.If it happens then reverse swing will come into play. Also skilful fast bowlers can take wickets on any surface.A bowling attack needs variety ie good spin and fast bowlers.

Hopefully we will have better bowler than 5-7 Musa, someone not that short.

Please give up on the height thing - its getting old and boring. Malcom Marshall etc

I think only Shaheen will be a regular by the time 2023 comes around. Not because they aren't good enough, but Pakistan has a history of conservatism when it comes to phasing out seniors.

Reminds me of the infamous AAG attack which never played a match together

Reminds me of the infamous AAG attack which never played a match together

The only AAG I can see is not in the bowling attack.

Consider the performances of these players in the PSL etc, U19 etc - then extrapolate 4 years hence. Think.

Please give up on the height thing - its getting old and boring. Malcom Marshall etc
Marshall was a once in a lifetime bowler.

The only other short bowler to be as successful was Dale Steyn.

Like it or not, height plays a crucial role in fast-bowling as the natural bounce makes up for lack of bounce/swing/seam on dead pitches.

That’s not how it works. It’s not a linear extrapolation. Anwar Ali etc

Please give up on the height thing - its getting old and boring. Malcom Marshall etc

Marshall was 5-11, he was short compared to other west indians at that time. Musa us 5-7 and he is no Marshall.

whats the point?

Let me remind you that in the 2015 world cup we had a great bowling line up according to the conditions and even at this World Cup our bowling line wasn't bad.

Problem is we select certain players just for the sake of experience and not getting bashed by media. In 2015 it was Younis Khan, and in this tournament it was Malik and Hafeez.

ANd by next world cup, god knows which non performing senior player we would be taking along.

I like one thing about Pakistan cricket, and that it we are DAMN strict on our bowling. We have bowlers like Rumman Raes and Mohammad Abbas that we could had taken, but no. For World Cups, i have seen we take the best bowling bunch.
But i only wish we did the same in Batting aswell

If Pakistan could adopt the same approach on batting, then a World Cup is not far away.

While we did not reach the semis, im happy with the performance of our team. Much better than what Inzi or Waqar did in 2007 and 2003.

Is he? Looked 5'8-5'9 to me. Maybe I am wrong through like I said I haven't seen him enough. If he's 6 feet plus then he got everything to succeed just need hard work and guidance
He is not 5'9 .He is over 6'.Musa is short.I don't think Musa will be successful.

2023 WC is supposed to be in India. I doubt pacers will play any big part. Pakistan should try to get a bunch of good spinners; someone like Ajmal.

Having said that, Pakistani pacers can do really well in 2020 World T20.

5 feet 11. same height as shoaib. tall enough. more than tall enough. under 5'11 would be a problem. Don't know why but that seems to be the case. maybe leverages make the difference.
Hasnain is 1.85m (6' 1) (according to Wikipedia)

That’s not how it works. It’s not a linear extrapolation. Anwar Ali etc

Anwar Ali wasnt pacy enough to start with though the exaggerated movement he used to get almost got eradicated with back injury (Due to his unusual body movement while delivering) and thus a remodeled action.

I think only Shaheen will be a regular by the time 2023 comes around. Not because they aren't good enough, but Pakistan has a history of conservatism when it comes to phasing out seniors.
PCB is going to make big changes in its management and domestic structure.
I am sure player who don't perform will be kicked out.Seniority will not save them.People want every player to perform.

I worry about the future of our young players as you never know what will happen to them in future and what path they will take.

Always difficult to know what controversies will happen and how their form will go, just look at Hassan Ali for example.

I don't know Amir will last that long.

What I do know is that afridi, Hasnain, Ali (returning to form) and probably some unknown will be an exciting crop.

They just need to be helped, guided and loved along the way.

A few more years of development by the PCB and we will be troubling a few batting lineups in the next World Cup

Shadab khan needs to improve his bowling - he has lost his length and revs on ball - we need a main spinner, as imad wasim is a container and also lets be honest where are the batsmen, who can replace hafeez at 4 and even a wicket keeper and also a captain.

After sarfaraz who can lead - we have no one, babar is a fine captain but he is no leader- along with amir.

2023 WC is supposed to be in India. I doubt pacers will play any big part. Pakistan should try to get a bunch of good spinners; someone like Ajmal.

Having said that, Pakistani pacers can do really well in 2020 World T20.

More important point, I agree. Right now our spin bowling is poor, need to find spinners first before worrying about fast bowlers who seem good enough for now.

To those who say pace won’t be important at the next World Cup because of the 2 new ball rule and because it’s in India have a look at these stats - bowling figures for all Odis played in India since 2012 (when the 2 new ball rule came in I think).

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...2;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling

Sure spinners have taken the most wickets however decent pacers (Bumrah, Cummings, Shami, Steyn, Rabada etc) have still been successful.

Looking forward to see the next pace battery.

We definitely have most answers post 2019 WC, then we did post 2015 WC.

Things look promising, just need a captain who is an automatic selection and inspires the rest of the team.

Apologies - this is not to say that other sides in the world will be sitting twiddling their thumbs! I am just looking at our guys.

But then how can they be the envy of the world if the rest have equally good or better bowlers. :angelo

I dont know about envy of the World, but Pak definitely has some good prospects upcoming. Mainly from KPK. Naseem Shah is my favorite of the upcoming bowlers, and imo if he can stay healthy he can be better than Afridi.

Is he? Looked 5'8-5'9 to me. Maybe I am wrong through like I said I haven't seen him enough. If he's 6 feet plus then he got everything to succeed just need hard work and guidance

Bumrah is 5'10. Just hard work and guidance can make you one of the best. Also most importantly, especially in the case of SC cricketers, do not develop a big head. Bumrah has only been so successful and continued to work hard while the likes of Hassan Ali started making their own chains, doing bhangras at borders etc after one successful year.
