Pakistan’s 90s Golden Era: How many titles were PCT denied because an ICC Trophy wasn’t up for grabs every year?

ODI Popularity Increased Immensely in Asia due to Pakistan 🇵🇰 Players of 90s and of course from India 🇮🇳 only Sachin. Pakistan 🇵🇰 had lot of Stars back in those days many more than other countries

Imran Khan during 92 World Cup told all his teammates that if he finds out any player doing match fixing he will ensure they never play cricket and they won the World Cup

Easy to talk. When the time came to walk the talk, he rallied people to support Mohammad Amir’s return.

Answering my own questions, the overall trophies distributing have looked like this :-

1989 ICC CT - 🇵🇰
1990 Test 🏆 - 🇵🇰
1991 ICC WT20 - 🇯🇲
1992 ICC CWC - 🇵🇰
1992 Test 🏆 - 🇦🇺
1993 ICC CT - 🇦🇺
1994 Test 🏆 - 🇯🇲
1994 ICC WT20 - 🇵🇰
1996 ICC CWC - 🇱🇰
1996 Test 🏆 - 🇿🇦
1997 ICC WT20 - 🇿🇦
1998 Test 🏆 - 🇵🇰
1998 ICC CT - 🇿🇦
1999 ICC CWC - 🇦🇺
2000 Test 🏆 - 🇦🇺

Why go back 40 years.
Go back 80 years when just Aus and Eng used to play.

The number of trophies these two countries would have.

This has to be one of the weird wishful coping I have ever seen

You said it jokingly but by mistake you exposed how unspecial this whole Endian peak has been.

150 years of cricket and some of you all think a 2 year peak from Endians is too special? Sri Lanka literally had a bigger peak than this and multiple times. LOL

1992 World Cup India vs Pakistan
1996 World Cup India vs Pakistan
1999 World Cup India vs Pakistan

India 3-0 Pakistan

The big hearted men deliver in big stages. The weak hearted have history of crumbling in big games.
How dare you ignore the Pak wins in the Parle G & Cinkara tonic bilateral series cups in Sharjah in late 80s / early 90s against Ind ?? :giggle:

It was a gun bowling unit with very good all rounders. But the batting was average at best. Can't win tournaments with a rampant Lankan gun batting unit and an ATG Aussie team coming up in the 90s as opponents. .

In Pakistan’s so called Golden Era in the 90’s, there were 4 ICC events played - 3 World Cups and 1 Champions Trophy. They fluked 1 out of the 4. There was no peak, just a very good team with little to show in actual silverware.

Only trophies matter.

Learned it the hard way - 2011 to 2024.

India was playing well, but no trophies, hence no result.

Only trophies matter.

Pakistan were a genuine heavyweight in the 90's.

1992 - Won the WC
1996 - Went to quarterfinal
1999 - went to final

In the era of only 4 ICC trophies in 12 years.

Now they do it in 3 years and they already talking dynasties bro lol :yk

Due to politics between Wasim group and Waqar group.

Which is why you need a strong board and overall discipline rather than depending on star players or one messiah to lead you.

For current india it doesn't matter which players come and go, who is the captain, they still win almost every match.

India changed its thinking once fixers were caught in the 90s and gave the board power to punish and ban any corrupt players. From azhar to sreesanth, no one was tolerated. So no matter how big a star, if you are corrupt, your career is gone.

Meanwhile Pakistan treated fixers like superstars and brought them all back, letting players know that if you are a star, you are untouchable and you don't need morals or discipline.

That culture has followed and led to where Pakistan is today.

India's upward trajectory began in late 90s, early 2000s once fixers were caught and eliminated. We have grown from strength to strength and never taken a foot back since that time. It was slow but steady progress.

Pakistan's downward slump started in 2010s when they embraced fixers and showed the world that star players were bigger than morality and discipline.

The path of the two can be traced back to these moments.

You aren't taking India's dominance very well. Consult a psychologist for your well-being. This type of delusion often spells out in other ways.

Just saw the scorecard of the 1999 finals after reading this.
Why on earth did Pakistan reverse its batting lineup? That too in the finals of a tournament world cup?

The first world cup I watched was 2003, had no idea about this bizzare move by Pakistan.
I think we all know the answer to this question, if only Wasim Akram was punished for it, but he got away because the person who was supposed to do the right thing was his fanboy

Australians respect Wasim Akram because of the immense favour he did to them in winning the World Cup in 1999 and eventually for the services he rendered to Australian Cricket rise a Australian Girl fell in love with him and married him.

Why do you think Pak failed at winning those cups? Pak was clearly the better team although there were times when SL was better
I think Pak skipped the one in 1990, the remaining 2 India and SL one each.

Also fun fact that the 2025 Asia cup final was the first time India vs Pak final happened. So every time India won the Asia Cup, Pak failed to make the final 🤷‍♂️. Same applies for Pak too which won the Asia cup twice.

Asia Cup was never a serious tournament in those days - Benson and Hedges Tri Series in Australia in 80s and Sharjah Matches in 90s were top priority
Benson and hedges tri series was won by only Pakistan in 90s becoming first Asian team to win it and Sri Lanka never managed to win it.

Pakistan only had glimpses of the golden era. We can call it golden months, actually... Never had a dominating era.

Are you confusing CU VB CB series with BH? India won the BH in 1985 against IK in final.

It unfortunately coincided with WI greatest team and then start of might Aus..so PCT couldn’t dominate in their peak, and yes in 1990s extremely inconsistent even lost to Zim
