What's new

Pakistan (144/3) stroll to a 7-wicket triumph in 3rd ODI to seal series 2-1 against South Africa (143)

Burger, Maphaka, & Jensen is a powerful left arm fast bowlers troika. Rabada, Coetzee, Ngidi, & Bosch are also tall or offer something extra when it comes to variety. RSA really blessed when it comes to pace bowling reserves.

It's a shame Anrich Nortje is struggling with injuries now. Otherwise you had another express pace option.

South Africa have the deepest fast-bowling reserves

I totally forgot about him. He's not just fast, he's a proper speedster. The great thing about these bowlers is that all of them are test class or almost there.

That's unreal depth.

Abrar was warming the bench throughout the 2023 World Cup lol
It's still shocking to me that he didn't get a single match while Shadab and Nawaz were averaging 100+ with the ball and were probably the worst spinners in that entire tournament.

No matter who is captain, coach and selector. They don't miss adding garbage to the team. Probably in their genes.

Akif did decent in his ODI call up but has been benched.

Shaheen, Akif, & Waseem should be the three frontline pacers in my opinion (don't really like Shaheen but he's the captain so can't drop him). Then you can just pick anyone based on akkar bakkar bambay bo from Nasim, Rauf, Hasnain, Ali Raza, Abbas, etc. for any away tour.

If Pak is playing with Fahim, they don't need to select 3 pacers in their own home conditions.

Yes he's a scary bowler when he's in his element. What I find most interesting about South Africa's current fast-bowling reserves is that there is almost a like-for-like replacement for every fast-bowler. That's very rare to see.

Rabada/Ngidi (though Ngidi's pace has dropped a bit)
Nortje/Coetzee
Jansen/Burger
Bosch/Mulder

You could put Maphaka in the Nortje/Coetzee express pace row too once he improves and gets some experience under his belt.

This is why Ngidi has alway been mediocre. Cannot sustain a good over. Made him look like a clown for 2-3 balls but bowled two terrible deliveries

Maphaka is 150 kph at the tender age of 19. If he manages to remain healthy, he has an amazing career upfront. The extra bonus is that he helps them meet their selection quotas as well and with him, Rabada, Bavuma, & Maharaj as lock ins for test, it just makes the team really good.

Aamer Sohail comparing a drive on a half volley to one on the up. Two different lengths how can one ever transfer their weight on back of length drive on the up

The only area where South African fast bowlers sometimes fall short is reverse swing. I guess growing up on pitches that are naturally fast, bouncy, and conducive to seam movement, they don't get as many situations where reverse swing becomes essential.

But in every other aspect, South Africa consistently produces some of the most gifted fast bowlers in world cricket - tall, athletic, biomechanically efficient, and capable of generating serious pace with skill and discipline.

Yup, definitely the most exciting pace bowling prospect for them since Rabada. I remember Ngidi when he burst onto the scene (2018 test series against India) was a super-exciting prospect too. But his fitness hasn't always been great and his pace has dropped considerably over the years too.

Babar average is in free fall.

Can't blame him today but the guy has zero situational awareness.

Rizwan giving tribute to Misbah. Comes and plays test match defensive shots. We should only use him in test. Wrong shots in wrong format

Why Rizwan is batting at no. 4? He should bat after Agha & Talat. Some players clearly enjoying preferential treatment despite repeated failures. Same is with Rauf, don't know why he is brought back and for what crime Wasim is dropped.

Coetzee is the better prospect imo.

Not watching this but typical Pakistan. Match is a formality, why not chuck Talat up the order and see what he can do? Give him time in the middle to bat for a bit, rather than Rizwan or Babar who have played 100s of matches.

Guys like @Kianig89 need to be sure Rizwan can score 70 off 180 balls to ensure Pakistan win from this situation

This is the development they are looking to view
