Pakistan (169/1) thrash Australia (163) by 9 wickets in the second ODI to level the 3-match series 1-1

Pakistan Levels Series with Dominant 9-Wicket Win Over Australia

Pakistan secured a convincing victory in the second ODI, leveling the three-match series against Australia. Haris Rauf's impressive 5/29 and Saim Ayub's 82 runs propelled Pakistan to a 9-wicket win.

Rauf's relentless pace dismantled Australia's batting lineup, restricting them to 163 runs in 35 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi contributed with 3/26, while wicketkeeper Rizwan took six catches. Australia's innings was marked by Jake Fraser-McGurk's promising start and Steve Smith's 35 off 48 balls.

In response, Pakistan's opening duo, Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, silenced critics with a match-winning 137-run stand. Ayub's aggressive 82 included six sixes and five fours, while Shafique remained unbeaten on 64 off 69 balls. Babar Azam sealed the win with a pulled six off Adam Zampa.

The series decider is set for Sunday at Perth, with Australia resting five key players: Starc, Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cummins, and Hazlewood. Josh Inglis has been named interim captain for the final ODI.

Pakistan's victory justification their faith in Ayub and Shafique in the white-ball format, despite criticism for their recent low scores in test matches. The stage is now set for an exciting series finale.

Saim Ayub speaking during the Post-Match press conference:

Plan in this game:

“Our plan was to focus on the ball and not overthink things, respecting the opposing bowling attack while also looking for opportunities to strike, especially against their experienced bowlers. The plan was to adapt based on the conditions and what we observed about their strategies.”

“The plan was to watch the ball and attack subconsciously, because if we are defensive than the opposition can dominate but if we keep attacking them while keeping calm then it could help.”

About his performance despite the early failures:

“Performing well today doesn’t guarantee tomorrow, and a poor performance today doesn’t mean the end. Whether good or bad today, we have to be ready to play and perform tomorrow. It's a continuous process, and although it can be challenging and pressure-filled when performances don't meet expectations, whether individually or as a team, it's all about focusing on what can be done in the present moment.”

Strategy for the Next Game:

“Our strategy in the last match and today was to play attacking, positive cricket where possible. There wasn't anything particularly special beyond that because once you're inside, you understand the situation better and plan accordingly based on the conditions and how the ball is behaving. You can't just think of a plan outside and execute it exactly; it evolves ball by ball. In our next matches, we will continue to strive to play attacking, positive cricket wherever possible. But the best part is that as a team, we are playing very well.”

About the Pakistan team as a Unit:

“The joy is in playing well as a team. Improvement as a team, even by one percent, is our goal. Individual performances vary, but positive attitudes and enjoying each other's company lead to better individual performances, a sign of ongoing improvement.”

Plan in this game:

“The plan was to watch the ball and attack subconsciously, because if we are defensive than the opposition can dominate but if we keep attacking them while keeping calm then it could help.”

About Haris Rauf and other bowlers:

“He bowled very well in the first match and in today’s game as well. Credit goes to the entire bowling unit, which supported him excellently. I hope we can maintain such strong performances going forward.”

About the confidence in this game after losing the 1st ODI in Melbourne:

“Cricket is a game that depends on the day; we cannot dwell on the past but must focus on playing today's game. We go into the game thinking about the present and our plan for today without getting caught up in past or future games.”

About his inning today:

“I'm feeling very good and confident. I really enjoyed today's innings, and it was a lot of fun.”

I completely agree, he is out of touch too for quite a time now.
I like Irfan Khan as well and have high hopes for him. He's a gun fielder and a powerful hitter. I was gutted the other day when he was playing well and got run out after slipping. It really hurt to see that happen to a youngster

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, congratulated the national cricket team for winning the second ODI against Australia

Heartfelt congratulations to all the players.

Bowlers Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi played an important role in the victory by bowling brilliantly.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan took 6 catches while keeping well.

Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique played responsible batting to give Pakistan a 9-wicket victory.

Haris Rauf's best performance, supported by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Abdullah Shafique, deserves praise.

The fielding by the players showed excellent performance in bowling and batting.

By defeating a strong team like Australia at their home ground, the players won the hearts of the nation.

The players have cheered the nation with this big win against Australia.

The players showed excellent teamwork on the field, and the result came in the form of victory.

This victory in the match against Australia will boost the morale of the players, and they will perform well in the upcoming match as well.

It is hoped that the players of the national cricket team will continue to perform well in the upcoming matches.

Rauf has shown in the 2 ODI's so far that high pace is what does it on these pitches.

He's the only one in the attack that is in the 140-145kph range while the rest are well under that.

He nearly did it in the first game but here he finished the game completely.

An excellent performance from the lads and a thoroughly deserving series levelling victory.

The series could of been won had taken our chances in the 1st game.

Credit to Shaheen , Rauf , ABD and Saim for top performances and Riz for smart captaincy.

The key aspect is to identify a core of players and go with them and give them time.

Now its important to finish the job and clinch the series in Perth.

Thumping win that should skyrocket confidence levels. Rauf has proved a lot of doubters including me wrong. Fantastic from Saim who has his breakout game. Always knew he had it in him.

If Australia stick to their plan of resting a big chunk of the side in Perth we have a real opportunity to take home a famous series win

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, while addressing the media at Gaddafi Stadium:

"First of all, I would like to congratulate the entire nation and especially the team on Pakistan's win against Australia, a victory we achieved after nearly seven years."

"I would credit the entire team, including those playing, those in support roles, and the back-end staff. It's a team effort, and I am hopeful that, Inshallah, this team will continue to bring you more good news in the future. We had been losing to teams for the past seven to nine years, but Inshallah, we will now show you victories as well."

ODI wins by Asian teams against Australia in Australia:

18 - Pakistan (54 mat)
16 - Sri Lanka (56 mat)
14 - India (54 mat)
0 - Afghanistan (1 mat)
0 - Bangladesh (6 mat)
That's impressive. Never thought India would be below than Sri Lanka and Pakistan

How was that sixer on the short pitch ball?
even patt cummins would send that kind of ball in stands 8 out of 10 times. nothing special there. He is vulnerable against leg spin. tentative prods and unsure which way ball will turn. Zampa got him multiple time and so did rashid

Why don't we see Pakistani fans boasting about their wins against Australia in Australia? :inti

I heard Misbah tried reaching out to our squad before the game… but no one picked up his call.. you can look at the result …

Suddenly, Indian cricket seems to be faltering unexpectedly, while Pakistan cricket is on the rise:tahir2

Really Mamoon's change in behavior of late is directly proporational to India's decline and Pakistan's rise! I am scared of him

>>>Australia suffered their first One-Day International (ODI) loss at home in two years, as their 10-match unbeaten run at home was broken by Pakistan, who drubbed them by nine wickets at the Adelaide Oval on October 8 (Friday).

Excellent performance by Pakistan!

Also a pleasant surprise to see the openers do well after their previous struggles.

Fantastic win for us. Rauf especially was immense.

Series win would be awesome. Think 1st ODI was winnable too if not for some poor batting, so it’d be nice to round off the series well.

Brilliant performance by pakistan and excellent captaincy from Rizwan

What an awesome annihilation of Australia. Truly an exceptional performance by Pakistan. In particular, Rauf was brilliant. Just blew away the middle order and it was due to smart good line/length bowling.

Nice to see Saim & Abdullah finally put up a great partnership together and great to see them ramping up their scoring as they got set. I couldn't believe how many sixes Saim hit. Generally, we don't even see that level of sixes hitting from Pakistani batsmen in T20's in Aussie's ground.

This is our standard now. The chairman of the board feels the need to congratulate the team on a single ODI victory. Unbelievably shameful stuff. Won the hearts of the nation by winning one game :)

But then again, this clown hasn't had much to cheer about during his reign... so, I guess we can just pity him.

He talks too much for such a mediocre batsman. He is one of the worst player to play for Pakistan.
In modern his strike rate in odis is 70. He was so useless and awful.
Talentless hack.
Don't shoot the messenger. Whatever he has said recently has been on point.

This team currently has brought Pakistan cricket to its LOWEST EVER point. Let's not be too quick to forget that after one victory.

Sorry to burst Pakistans bubble, but Aussies dont care one bit about this ODI series lol. They are using it as preparation for the Tests.
Regardless of how stupid your argument of using an ODI to prepare for a Test match is, Aussies aren't unprofessional like your lot. When they step on the field, they are 100% committed and fight tooth and nail for victory.

I dont think Gillespie..is having his heart in his role as Pakistan coach anymore....probably due to disappointment over his role reduced as match day strategist as he says....as opposed to what he was promised earlier…and rightly so…

I dont blame him when I feel he lacks passion now..as whenever he is asked something regarding team performances, he just says.. I dont do much..or I stay away from things.. I just focus on getting boys prepared for the match and keep things calm.. Earlier he used to talk about his vision for the team, his strategies .. but not anymore.. As he said in an interview today also, I just go with the flow, and whatever has to happen, will happen..so let it be..
If you guys noticed, he wasnt in the Pakistan team dugout, when Pak were just one run away from victory and all Pakistan players and staff were waiting for winning runs..and then celebrating.. he came later..on the ground..

I think he has just accepted things as they are now, and he doesnt feel the need to change or commit himself with passion anymore…This , I think is also a major reason why he isnt interested in permanent white ball coaching role for Pakistan, along with the reason he has publicly stated, that I cant stay away form family from 11 months..I think he feels, it isnt worth it…the mental pressures that come with coaching Pakistan, and the constant chopping and changing that happens

If PCB were smart, they would have detailed discussions with him, and get him more involved in decision making processes, and convince him to become white ball coach, atleast till Champions trophy..because…he genuinely is a good coach… But I dont think he will trust PCB anymore, and he knows that it will be one series loss, and damn..everything changes again at drop of a hat ..

True. Looks like someone who gives an extra mile in the effort.

Pat Cummins scored the winning runs in the other game, did he finish it like this?
Fact Check: Babar has one of the highest batting avg against leg spinners in ODIs :)

Babar can only dream of finishing like Patt cummins .. he took all the pressure and played with tail end like a genuine batter. i have not seen Babar doing that ever. i have never seen him finishing the close game and winning it for the team. Pat Cummins against England in first Ashes won it for Aussies last year and then stuck with Maxwell Against Afghanistan till the end makes him Mentally much stronger than babar even in batting although he is a gun bowler.

That's bec Babar bats at no.3 Cummins bats at 8 or 9. Idiot

how does that make a difference? are you for real? if Babar was good batsman under pressure , he would finish the games and win it. that would mean not having to loose wickets til number 8 lol pat cummins comes at number 8 but does nt get out lol thats why he finishes
