What's new

Pakistan (172/8) defeat the West Indies (163 all out) by nine runs in the 2nd T20I at Karachi

Someone said Shahab is a better fielder than Haris Rauf LOL

I am really surprised how Pakistan keep on playing shaheen and not rest him !

Yeah its getting ridiculous, he needs to be rested especially for series like this one, Have trust in your bowling talent, im sure Pak can win without him, and even if they lose games if he doesnt play, it will be good in the long run to rest him for important matches.

This is garbage bowling by Rauf. Half a decent batsman would've hit all 4 of these deliveries for sixes!

Why bowling at the stumps to a guy locking to hoick everything towards the leg-side?

This guy is seriously talented

Will soon be sold for high price in IPL(bookmark this), even Odean Smith looks a super talent as well. Late hitter AR are rare commodities

Wanted a competitive and close match with a PAK win, and wish fulfilled.

WI death overs bowling ultimately cost them, but some promise shown from Brandon King, Akeal Hosein and others.

Shadab cameo in the end saved Pakistan. Yesterday it was Nawaz at the end. Looking good for Pak lower end. Asif Ali though remains a worry.

There's no such thing as playing selfishly. Every player tries his best for the team

Cant really compare his innings with nawaz n asif both came out to bat after 15 overs or so. Fakhar in the five balls he played was striking at 200. Haider was playing as if we were 15/5

West Indies almost pulled it off.

Congratulations, Pakistan. They are looking good to go up 3-0.

A good game of cricket overall.

From Pakistan point of view despite being maybe 20 runs short or even more they were able to defend it. But still dropped catches, a run out still seem to be an issue. From the Batting i cant really say since i did not see Paks Batting only tuned it for the chase. But it seems like Shadab cameo and rizwan scoring 38 runs helped with putting a decent total. However Pakistan need to rest Shaheen and some others, give chance to the others. This is just a regular t20 series its not that important.

For West Indies they showed some great character, and fought really hard. The days of Bravo, Gayle, and maybe Russell are over so its good to see some new faces trying to cement a place in the national squad.Akael Hosein has looked very good in this series as well so far.

That is ur assumption. I've seen numerous selfish knocks being played at the cost of team welfare, not just by Pak players

Much needed close game. I want our team to be consistently tested in tight games so that they get really good at handling pressure

And yours is not an assumption ?

I really dont think so. Being selfish at times to secure a permanent spot in team is very understandable. On the other hand assuming no player ever plays a selfish knock is quite unbelievable for me

I would rather see haider ali gale his time then slog straight away

Babar Azam | Pakistan captain: I think the finish was great in our batting innings. 170-180 was a good score and the bowlers did well, including the pacers and spinners, so it was a good team effort. We should defend the target well, according to the conditions, and we planned really well. Whether we bat or ball, we made an effort, and that's in our hands. The group is developing very well, including Wasim, and how these youngsters are evolving. They'll only get better with time.

Nic Pooran | West Indies captain: Tough one, big improvement, but we lost wickets because we were silly, including me, but lots of good cricket. Odean was really good, they bowled really well, we had a simple plan, and we just didn't execute properly. We wanted to take it to the 20th over, we played the first 10 really well, but made some mistakes, and I thought one of King and I should have gone deep, and Shepherd was fantastic. So I hope we can bounce back in the third game.

Shadab Khan | Man of the Match | (28* off 12 ; 4-0-22-0): When I bat, it's the death overs, and you have 4-5 balls and I practice that kind of batting, which is range-hitting and it came to fruition today. The field shows what the bowler is planning and that's how I planned my batting. With the ball, I wasn't able to get the ball to grip on the pitch, but I wanted bowl good areas, and keep the runs down.

How about Shadab though. He has been on quite a run lately and bowling economical as well. He's had injuries last couple of years and often in & out of lineup as a result of it but I think he seems to be fully healthy on and having a good run.

Will be extremely important for the upcoming WC in India.

A scruffy win.

Some good cricket, together with some very ordinary cricket which gave West Indies a sniff of victory.

Once again though, this West Indies team is so average.

Only Russell, Pollard and maybe Lewis are sure starters in the WI new look lineup. It would be a pretty similar lineup WI might field during next year's wt20. Plus Shepherd, Smith are WI's future stars it appears.

There is no second wicket keeper in Pakistan t20 and odi squads for series against WI.A young wicket keeper/batsman should have been selected.Shaheen should have been rested after the first t20.Dahani,Hasnain and Usman should play in the final t20.It seems Pakistan is too scared too lose against lower ranked teams. An odd loss in t20 or odi is not a big deal.It is good to test the bench strength.

Pakistan fired on all cylinders to win the second T20I in Karachi despite a commendable effort from West Indies.

Having taken out the first T20I on Monday, Pakistan sealed their series win on Tuesday with a nine-run victory.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first in the second T20I at the National Stadium in Karachi. While the hosts remained unchanged from their 63-run win from the first game, West Indies made one change – Hayden Walsh Jr replacing the injured Devon Thomas.

Walsh (1/30) made an instant impact on the game – not with the ball but with his fielding – after he completed a run-out to dismiss skipper Babar Azam (7). Played to the backward point region, Mohammad Rizwan set off for a quick single that was never there. Walsh Jr covered ground quickly and threw it straight into the hands of the keeper, who dislodged the stumps with Azam still far from the crease.

Fakhar Zaman (10) followed his captain back to the pavilion inside the Powerplay. Trying to take the left-arm spinner, Akeal Hosein (1/16), on with the angle, Zaman went for the big one but only caught air, leaving Nicholas Pooran with a simple stumping opportunity.

It was Rizwan again who did the bulk of the scoring for Pakistan in the fielding restrictions, scoring 26 out of Pakistan's Powerplay score of 50.

Haider Ali and Rizwan, the pair that put on a 105-run stand in the first T20I, added 48 runs for the third wicket before Rizwan was done by a slower one from Odean Smith (2/24). Ali looked off-colour in his innings of 31 that came in 34 balls. He too fell to Smith as he holed out in the deep, with Shamarh Brooks taking a well-judged catch inches away from the boundary ropes.

Mohammad Nawaz failed to replicate his heroics with the bat from the last game as he was caught at deep midwicket trying to clear the ropes for one. Pakistan were reduced to 127/6 at the end of the 17th over after the wicket of Asif Ali (9).

Thankfully for Pakistan, the lower order came to the rescue in the final three overs. Ifthikar Ahmed cleared the ropes twice in the 18th over before he was caught behind off the final ball of Oshane Thomas' (1/35) spell for 32.

Dominic Drakes leaked 17 runs in the penultimate over of the innings, with Shadab Khan (28*) smashing a six and a four while Mohammad Wasim (5) brought out the scoop for a boundary.

Shadab closed the innings with a flourish, tonking two more maximums in the final over, as he finished on 28* off 12 balls. With 45 runs in the last three overs, Pakistan got to 172/8.

The West Indies innings got off to the worst possible start with Wasim (2/39) striking in his very first over and the third of the innings to get the dismissal of Shai Hope (1). Hope went for a flick but it hit the toe-end of the bat as he was caught in the deep for 1.

Shamarh Brooks too couldn't last long, being trapped plumb by Nawaz (2/36) after a knock of 10 runs. It was now left to skipper Pooran and Brandon King to steer the West Indies ship in the right direction.

The pair embarked on a stand of 54 runs which kept the visitors alive in the contest. King especially would play some cracking strokes, going at a brisk pace which meant the required rate would not get out of hand.

Just as West Indies got in a position to tee off in the latter stage of the innings, Pooran would depart after a run a ball 26. Attempting a big one against Nawaz, he would hole out in the deep with Haris Rauf taking a stunning athletic catch.

King would then bring up his maiden half-century in T20I cricket and seemed like the last remaining hope for the visitors as he lost Powell from the other end for 4.

But he could not take the West Indies home with Nawaz now returning the favour off Rauf's bowling, taking a comfortable catch at long-on. Nonetheless, it was a commendable effort from King who would depart after a well-made 67.

Smith would try his best to keep the Windies in the hunt with a couple of lusty blows but a brilliant fielding effort from Asif Ali in the deep would bring an end to his knock of 12.

Romario Shephard would then unleash some scintillating strokes, with an entertaining cameo of 35* off 19.

But it wouldn't prove to be enough as the Windies fell short by nine runs, despite a commendable effort.

Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/26.

With the victory, Pakistan took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
