What's new

Pakistan [185/9] trounce South Africa [108/9] by 33 runs (DLS) in a crucial T20 World Cup victory

If there is no more rain, no more upsets in the rest of the matches, SA and INdia go through. If there is a rain in SA match then it comes down to NRR between SA and Pakistan. SA will win there as well. Only two scenarios will help Pakistan

1) SA losing to Netherlands
2) India losing to Zimbabwe

On equal points no. of wins is considered and NRR after that

Na, number of win then NRR

Not sure what to do on Sunday? Stay awake to watch the SAF game or just wake up at 4 and watch the Pak match

Run Rate will only come into play if both teams have won the same number of games. In case South Africa and pak are on same points, pak will qualify for the semis coz they wd hv won 3 games in comparison to 2 by South Africa.

Rain is stopped but there might be no play
Had it been india players would have been rushed on

There is no way SA and Pak can have same points because of the rained out game. Only way that can happen is when their last match also gets rained out. I am sure SA will pummell Netherlands so bad that NRR will be untouchable. It is already untouchable.

Wet outfield should be an issue.

But who knows since BCCI will decide.

SA will sneak through. I will be surprised SA doesn't make the semis. Strange things happen to them in World cups. Pakistan's best odd is India losing to Zimbabwe assuming Pakistan beats BD.

22:01 Local Time, 11:01 GMT, 16:31 IST: The drizzle is definitely lighter than it was when it forced the players off, but it's persistent. (Cricbuzz)

Covers were already removed yesterday by this time.

Yes none denying that .. only rain in South Africa and Netherlands game wd hv pak and South Africa on sand points.

Then it will be down to RR if India lose to Zimbabwe. Pak are already ahead of India on RR and if they lose to Zim, their RR wd go down further.

umpires and icc are forced to start this game after what they did yesterday

Pitch cover is on. Outfield being dried and rain has stopped

SA could still win this game with 6 wickets left they can just try to hit 6s to get aheadon DLS, Klassen , Stubbs, Parnell well capable of doing that.

Nvm its still raining slowly. Pitch cover is still on though but they are drying the outfield with the rope

You re confused
If pak and sa end on same points 6.
Then first number of wins will be considered then NRR.

How do you think they will end up at 6 unless the last match is rained out? So weather intervention cannot be included as factor here. If it happens it will. Pakistan has to thrash Bangladesh badly to get above SA assuming last match is washed out for SA.

Unfortunately this tournament has been a fiasco with incessant rain. Obviously you cannot control the weather but there's a reason why AUS don't host many internationals in OCT and early NOV.

That is what i say. India must lose to ZImbabwe. Even tie is not enough.

There is no rain though for SA vs netherlands.

Weather forecast said the same about today with minimum cloud in Sydney and its raining quite heavily. Adelaide for Saturday has cloud prediction so rain could potentially show up there

Mate where did i said it happened already? These are all assumptions.

But don't think it would lead to abandoning the game

You are still not getting it. NRR is not a factor regardless of how things play out from here on. We need to beat BD only, even if by a run. No thrashing is needed.

If SA lose, they won't go through. If the share points, they won't go through. Only winning the game against Netherlands puts them in the SF.

If Pakistan wins tonight, and South Africa’s match is washed out, then both Pakistan and South Africa both end up on 6 points.

South Africa will have had two wash-outs, and also less number of wins than Pakistan.

Number of wins will be considered before NRR in this scenario, and Pakistan will go through to the semi-finals.

All academic, South Africa can win this game and the weather forecast for their last game shows 0% precipitation.

Such a farce to schedule a tournament when it rains a lot during October-Nov there. So many games getting impacted by rain, one of the most disappointing T20 world cup so far. DLS is another controversial method and games getting decided over it doesn't seem fair atleast in a short format cricket

COrrect. I agree. I stand corrected. I kinda assumed both had same wins

Rules are the same

a) The team with the greatest number of wins in its Group will be placed in the higher position.

b) If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the Group stage, then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the Group stage will be placed in the higher position.

Pakistan’s exit from world cup is not due to rain
It is due to an inept captain who failed miserably in the world cup and ruthlessly clinged to opening slot and his terrible tactics against zimbabwe & india.

For those wishing the SAF vs NED game is washed out. We literally play in the same ground a few hours later lol. So our game vs BAN would get washed out too

Just sayin that if pak beats sa today and bangladesh on sunday, there will definitely be an increase in nrr for pakistan.

Now considering if zim beats ind, whether its a big margin or smallest of margins, the nrr of india, will it be lower than paks?

Yes definitely Babar and Nawaz can be blamed for this tournament.

Yes correct

It's really funny one day Pakistan loose to Zimbabwe and another day make SA looks like a minnow team.

It already is lower so any defeat for India cs ZIM will knock them out

really taking their time to dry up the ground today
how it should be

A rain affected game where Netherlands require 30 off 22 balls (DLS), only then will we have a 50% chance of going to the semi’s.

Lol what happened.. they were 65 for 2 when I last checked! Must be good bowling by Shadab .

14 over game how is that correct when they had half hour to play with before loosing overs!

If SA pummell Netherlands, SA doesnt need NRR to qualify. they will have odd no of points 7, no other team is in position to reach 7 unless last IND vs Zim match is rained off. in that case it will be reace between IND and SA to top the table

NRR of SA will not matter at all for their qualification to semi finals
