Pakistan [194/3] cruise to a 7-wicket win over Bangladesh [193] to kick off Asia Cup Super 4 stage

Embarrassing commentary saying that Pakistan missed out. We played incredible all around.

Statement is winning and winning comfortably.

Emphatic was always the problem, winning relaxed is what good teams do.

Surprised that Shakib didn't bowl early. He bowled after 25th over.

Strange tactic.

Teams like England, Australia, and New Zealand probably would've chased this down in 30 overs.

Surprised how well Bangladesh fast bowlers bowled. Haven’t seen much of them lately. But I’ve seen periods when their spinners were dominant, even times when they’re batting was good. But fast bowling was their highlight today. Perhaps progress to becoming a well rounded side.

BD pace bowling coach is Allan Donald. Before that, Courtney Walsh worked with them. I think Donald did a good job.

BD pacers used to be rubbish. They are now okay for ODI format.

So commentator wish came true Pak achieved the Target under 40 0vers.
Well played Imam and Rizwan, composed innings against some tight bowling.

Dare I say I wished it was Afganistan who had qualified and we were playing them instead?

Afghanistan-Pakistan tends to be always entertaining. Could've made Super Four fun.

It should be a boring Super Four (barring Pakistan-India game).

Yeah but that's just not our way which is fine
...we beat both England and New Zealand in the last ODI World Cup with arguably, an inferior team to this current set up...

As easy as you like.

Mostly positives, but I'd like to have seen Shadab bowl a bit better and Fakhar to score some runs.

Haha. Misbah retired 7 years ago but still lives rent-free in your head. Love it.
Lol that is what I was thinking why Misbah is being brought up again and again for no reason, when he has nothing to do with how the current lot play their cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan: We lost at the start, they bowled really well and we played some ordinary shots. On a wicket like this, we shouldn't have lost four wickets in 10 overs. We had a very good partnership, we should have got going for 7-8 overs. After I got out, there was no more partnerships. Very poor batting display on a surface like this. We have to take it on our chin and move to the next one as we have another game in a couple of days. They (Pakistan) are the number one team, they've got three world-class frontline bowlers. If they can do that, it gets easier for their batsmen. We have been doing well in our bowling department. Batting at this moment is little bit hot and cold. We need to be consistent and that's what we'll try to do. Our three seamers bowled brilliantly. They have been bowling well for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the wickets. It wasn't a pitch where you can get wickets unless batsmen make a mistake. When I played the LPL, the pitches were slow. If that happens, it suit us better. Hopefully we do well in Colombo.

Imam ul Haq: Not the most fluent innings. The ball was seaming around, but I'm happy because I've been working on my backfoot game. We discussed about NRR, we thought we could chase within 36 overs and luckily me and Rizwan had a good partnership, and we could close the game like this. (On the pacers) They are remarkable, I want them to bowl another 2 months like this. God bless them!

Pakistan Triumphs in Lahore: A Dominant Display Against Bangladesh

In what proved to be a riveting contest at Lahore, Pakistan comfortably secured a win by 7 wickets against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. The hosts once again showcased why they are a force to be reckoned with, especially in their home conditions.

Bangladesh started off by posting a total of 193, bowled out in 38.4 overs. Pakistan responded confidently, reaching the target with 194/3 in 39.3 overs. With a steady run rate of 4.91, the hosts demonstrated a balanced mix of aggression and caution.

Mohammad Rizwan was the shining star for Pakistan, crafting a commendable 63 off 79 balls, peppered with 7 boundaries and a six. His batting prowess was evident, and his innings played a pivotal role in Pakistan's chase. Agha Salman, who remained unbeaten at 12, also chipped in with some crucial runs. Their partnership, which added 35 in 40 balls, ensured that the ship sailed smoothly to the shores of victory.

Bangladesh's bowlers tried to make inroads with their tight lengths, but the Lahore pitch offered little assistance. Shakib Al Hasan, one of the premier all-rounders in world cricket, couldn't manage to pick up a wicket, and his figures of 5.3-0-31-0 reflect the uphill task the visitors had in defending their score.

A notable mention goes to Imam-ul-Haq, whose performance was central to Pakistan's chase. With scores of 83, 100, and now 78 against Bangladesh in ODIs, he has solidified his spot as a dependable top-order batsman.

The match culminated with a stylish reverse sweep for four by Agha Salman off Shakib, symbolizing the assertive intent with which Pakistan played. With this win, Pakistan has further established their dominance against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, boasting 13 wins in 14 matches.

All in all, this game in Lahore was a testament to Pakistan's strength in the limited-overs format. The combination of their bowlers setting up games and the batsmen finishing the job ensures that they remain one of the top contenders in the Asia Cup. On the other hand, Bangladesh will hope to revisit their strategies and come back stronger in their next encounter.

Haris Rauf | Player of the Match: It was hot out there, but I've played a lot of cricket here. I play PSL for Lahore, the crowd always expects us to perform here. Before any game, we do plan as a bowling unit. We talk about bowling to different plans based on the game phase. Hard length was tough to play here, and the plan was to keep bowling stump to stump. Didn't need to go to the yorker today. I keep working hard and I have high goals for myself, I want to be the Player of the Series in this Asia Cup, let's see how the tournament proceeds.

Pakistan should have chase down this target more quickly to improve their Net Run Rate especially considering the possibility of rain affecting the next few matches. Nevertheless, it's a positive start to the Super 4 stage with a good win.

i have said all along it is always our bowling which has saved us. I mean how do we get to so called world no 1 team without ever beating England..Australia...South Africa..Newzealand and even India is beyond me.
Pakistan beat Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in their last series, you need to cricket a bit more.

I think the problem is not that we haven’t played them. We’ve only played them at home. It’s questionable whether they all played their full strength side aswell.

Celebrate victories by all means but have some realism

Precisely...i am not sure what victories he is referring to but in this day and age we will struggle against all big teams if full strength

Pak played well. The ball definitely was seaming around when Pak started the batting. NRR also improved by chasing in about 40vers. There was no need to take additional risks knowing that future games will be affected by rain, and hence smaller targets with probability of having less NRR for winners. Job well done - no need to be harsh on the winner.

We beat South Africa away in 2021 so its not just home. Anyways the World Cup is in India which are familiar conditions for Pak as well.

It's important to consider that Bangladesh's bowling has performed impressively since the last ODI World Cup, so we shouldn't underestimate them. Pakistan's chase was a well thought out and sensible one.

Great to see that Pak Ban so called rivalry has cooled down now. Players are much more respectful to each other now.

Compared to India and Afghanistan, there hasn't been as much of a rivalry between Pakistan and Bangladesh. They consistently engage in matches with a good spirit.

A good performance overall only disappointing points are shadab bowling and fakhar batting.

Not really. Things had become pretty tense (in cricket) from 2012-16. BD crowd was very much in-your-face esp in 2015 series. The great Zaka Ashraf had a part in that too after trying to hold NOC's for BPL on ransom for some reason.
But it's nice to see players being jovial on both sides.

Man it's crazy how good and terrific Shaheen, Naseem & Rauf have been and while Shaheen & Naseem being good is expected, it's amazing how consistent Rauf has become. He's much better at hitting the right line & length and keeping that consistent pace to trouble the batsmen. He was often wayward early in his career but just been so consistently fantastic.

Please please please, I just hope all 3 stay healthy throughout the world cup and as long as they do, Pakistan will always have a chance.

Naseem is pretty much the Glenn mcgrath of Pakistan, always the same consistent line and length and while he will get hit occasionally, he will pick up wickets and win you games. Theirs a reason he's picked up 1 to 2 wickets in every gane he's ever played.

Haris is a genuine wicket taker in the middle. So much variation.

Amd shaheen is extremely dangerous with that inswing early on.

All that's left is one more pacer in the middle that needs to be groomed to standards. Either Ihsanullah due to him having the highest ceiling or zaman Khan due to death over bowling.

The bowling attack is as usual the key.

Our batting is good enough for modest totals but anything challenging I just don’t think we have the talent or ability to chase it down.

Quite an ordinary batting display. Those non stop dot balls will kill us

Pakistan ODI pace bowling is top notch without a doubt. Keeping that aside, Bangladesh's batting was horrible on few occasions. Leaving rest aside lets talk about the most experienced, Shakib and Rahim. Shakib the captain played a horrible shot when was well set vs Faheem (His pace couldnt have rushed him) and then Rahim out of pressure maybe just had a brain fade vs Rauf when at that time he and BD should have just tried to bat deep and try to get that score to around 250 odd to give something to the pacers. Rather than that he and few around just kept on hitting brainlessly.

With Shanto out of Asia Cup and Miraz (centurion from the last match) getting a golden duck, Bangladesh got baffled and they had no real support from the top order who was performing for them in earlier matches. One of the reasons for their dismal performance last night. Top-notch bowling from Pakistan again with 9 wickets taken by pacers.

Why is Rauf not landing his from foot just behind the line-crease?.He can increase his pace if his foot is splitting the crease or just behind the crease. As it stands his foot lands way back from the crease.I am surprised the bowling coaches have not notice this.

We already have Wasim Jnr who can bowl with the new ball and bowl at the death pluss he's a good fielder and bat abit.

This victory could potentially assist Pakistan in reaching the finals if the remaining matches are affected by rain.
