What's new

Pakistan (206) defeat Netherlands (197) by 9 runs to win the 3rd ODI - Win series by 0-3 margin

Netherlands came close in 1st game and 3rd game. They played well.

It was a good series for Pakistan to test out bench strength.

A lot of people are against Waseem but in my humble opinion he is a pretty good bowler. He is not an all rounder but he is capable of adding 15-20 runs which vital in low scoring games.

As mentioned previously in other threads, he is one of the best reverse swing bowler in cricket circle currently

Dahani was miserly too...
PCB should properly manage fast bowlers to keep them free from injuries.PCB can choose from Nasim,Rauf,Waseem,Dahani and Hasnain.A few more will be ready soon so it makes no sense to keep playing Shaheen in every match.Dahani needs to play more to improve his game.

Was dissappointed with Dahanis bowling. He looked to contain, bowled a defensive economical length rather than looking to take wickets

these small teams come close rarely and manage to get across the line only once in a blue moon. some how manage to botch up the back end.

Fast bowlers need some time to build rhythm which he is clearly lacking atm. We didn't help by giving him just one game here.

That's why they are associates. They are expected to do these mistakes.

Remember Hong Kong in Asia Cup 2018? They were looking good to beat India but messed it up in the end.

Netherlands produced a compelling performance to come close to beating Pakistan in the final match of the series in Rotterdam on Sunday, but the visitors held their nerve to win by nine runs and seal a 3-0 series victory.

Toss: Pakistan opt to bat first

Result: Pakistan win by 9 runs

Netherlands keep Pakistan on a leash

Not for the first time in the series, the Netherlands bowlers impressed with the new ball, not letting Pakistan's top-order run away with the game. Vivian Kingma prized out debutant Abdullah Shafique, but Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam rebuilt for Pakistan.

However, Netherlands managed to find a breakthrough when Logan van Beek cleaned up Zaman in the 18th over. Agha Salman gave Babar fine company as the skipper completed his ninth fifty-plus score in his last 10 innings.

Pakistan lost three wickets in quick succession in the middle overs as Netherlands made a strong comeback. Salman, Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Haris were dismissed in the space of 31 runs.

Babar continued edging close to a hundred, but he couldn't eventually get there as a stunning return catch from Aryan Dutt ended his knock, nine short of a ton.

Bowling Pakistan out for 206, Netherlands fancied their chances with the bat to chase down the target.

Naseem Shah rocks Netherlands' top-order

Naseem Shah continued to make a strong impression on the tour as he sent back Max O'Dowd and Musa Ahmed inside the first 10 overs to give Pakistan a rousing start. The 19-year-old speedster was in fine rhythm and finished his first spell with figures of 5-0-14-2.

He returned later at a crucial point in the game to clean up skipper Scott Edwards and added another wicket, that of Teja Nidamanuru, later to break a threatening half-century stand.

Naseem finished with career-best figures of 5 for 33, bringing Pakistan back into the contest every time he came on with the ball. Naseem was ably supported by Mohammad Wasim, who picked up the big wickets of Vikramjit Singh and Tom Cooper to finish with a four-wicket haul.

Netherlands fight

Led by opener Vikramjit and in-form Cooper, Netherlands pushed Pakistan in the run chase. Vikramjit completed his second half-century in the series while Cooper made it three fifties in three outings. However neither innings was quite enough to give Netherlands the final push needed for a win.

While Vikramjit's innings came to an end on 50 as he nicked Wasim to the wicketkeeper, Cooper kept Netherlands in the hunt until late in the run chase, only to miscue a slog off the same bowler in the 46th over to be dismissed for 62.

Netherlands' tail pulled them close to the target, but they eventually couldn't cross the final hurdle. The fight did not yield the result they sought, but despite the 0-3 loss, the hosts showcased some exemplary cricket right through the series.

Babar Azam: We are happy as a team. All credit to boys. They bowled very well in the second innings. He's (Naseem) bowling very well with the new ball and in the death overs. Wasim also bowling well. And Dahani. We tried our bench strength. Early on the ball wasn't coming on well. We were short in the first innings.

Edwards: The boys were incredible. It caps off what the summer's been. A lot of improvement from the boys. Probably three or four chances this summer to get a win on the board but we just couldn't get over the line.

Naseem Shah: Used the pitch early on. It was seaming and it helped me. There was help when you bowl in good areas. Important for me because my ODI career is just starting. Thanks to the crowd. Credit goes to them.

Khushdil is a T20 player. He is not suited for ODIs.Haider Ali is a better choice than Khushdil.

We often forget that a certain player is given a certain role to play by team management. I think same thing happened to Dahani. He had no choice but to play containing role.

Glad we gave more players chances.

A bit disappointed from the seniors minus of course the captain but good to see us being forward thinking.

Wins and losses shouldn’t matter. It’s about development long term for big series and world tournies.

Who was the man of the series?

Scraped a win when they could have so easily lost.

Overall Pakistan have been really poor in the series against Netherlands barring a few players such as Babar Azam and Naseem Shah.

Confused tactics and approach from Pakistan.

Timid and not great to watch.

For anyone who saw the whole match, was the pitch really difficult to bat on? Just wanting to understand what led to such a mediocre total for Pak. Everyone played with such a poor strike rate.

2 paced wicket. Difficult to time the ball. Actually a very poor LOI wicket. When a class player like Babar cant time the ball you know enough.

The other issue here is that apart from Fakhar and Babar there is no batting. Very weird line up with a huge tail.

Credit to the bowlers, they did a great job.a very inexpierenced bowling unit.

Pakistan being Pakistan. They are still looking to keep wickets and score slowly initially and then go for big hits neat thr end, a very poor and dangerous strategy as this doesn't always work.

I enjoyed the intensity of the match though but shouldn't be doing this again Netherlands.

I feel Babar scored slow but at the same time everyone seems to rely on him too much.

Mohammad Wasim has a bullet arm in the field! Good he didn't leak too many runs but I feel he needs to really work on his batting. He has power but no technique.

Mohammad Haris is a better player than he showed today. Nerves perhaps?

Naseem by far the best bowler alongside Shaheen Masha'Allah. Good to not see cringy celebrations like Hasan Ali. I'm wondering if I would have seem that if Dhani took a wicket..... he was disappointing though. Maybe give him a shot in test matches instead of Naseem?

One player I do think should bowl in tests is Akif Javed

I think it was good that they gave a chance to some of thier bench players pluss the series was already won.

I actually thought Dahani bowled well he was beating the bat and catches dropping short.

Well done to Netherlands for taking Pakistan all the way.Pakistan bowling was relentless they hardly gave any 4 balls.Naseem was head and shoulders above any bowler in this series.

Pakistan fielding was alot better this game and its good to see the fielders actually diving around baring Zahid Mahmood who isn't good enough as a spinner.

Nice to see Pakistan was able to defend this.

Concern remains however when the openers struggle. It was a pretty poor pitch and nobody scored quickly suggests the same. In the end, it was good for this young and mostly inexperienced group to defend a low total. Naseem was incredible throughout the series and really showed potential as an allround format player. Wasim Jr. continues to bowl really well. Stellar numbers for Wasim in his early career with 15 wickets in 8 matches with a 22.86 AVG.

Overall, not exactly a great series and our batsmen struggled for majority of it outside of Babar but there's positives in the way Salman/Naseem/Wasim played.

The future of Pakistan cricket is bleak due to lack of ability to score faster and power hitting. European teams will soon take over teams like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and may be Sri Lanka (financial crisis).

They dont have a proper domestic setup, rely only on county cricket..

They just form 11 players from local club cricket.. but yes if netherlands are serious about cricket , they will soon be playing competitive cricket against low tier teams as u mentioned.

Which one is considered a small team here? Netherlands or Pakistan?

Both looked average and mediocre teams to me.
