Pakistan need 88 to win. Both are openers need some time in middle and runs before 2nd test.

Sab Sher hain Apne ghar mein. only team that is doing well overseas is India. Rest are even struggling at home as well. Looks Srl lost at home. Aussies lost at home 2wice now to india. So sab teams are equally is my opinion except india, England and Nzl.

Because these teams have strong bench strength
 
After Fawad there should be claims of how Nauman Ali has been kept out of Pakistan team for so long. I'm also convinced Tabish would also been a better bowler than Hasan Ali, Rahat A, Imran K if he was selected. So there is Talent in Pakistan but like I always maintained the right players do not get selected and when some so its often for wrong format.
 
Time for the other debutante to score a few , remaining not out in a chase will help his confidence a lot.

Australia is probably the most successful team in the history of cricket, winning non stop World Cups.

Yet they are struggling to put a decent team on Paper.

Pakistan team will become a good team, but not under a timid Coach like Misbah.

His domestic average just isn't good enough

Azhar, Abid opening and saud in MO is the only solution for couple of seasons
 
I would drop Abid Ali if he fails and give Abdullah Shafiq a chance, he is a stroke maker and we badly need one. Could be a good selection.
 
Well done Nauman, had a feeling he was gonna be tough on this day 4 pitch. What a fiver to get and against such an opposition.

Why is Imran Butt in the team with an average of 35 in First class?
 
Babar captaincy has been good for his debut match, sure he will get few decisions wrong early in captaincy career. Field placing worked and good change of bowlers rather than keep bowling one bowler for very long time in hope for wicket.

The Yasir + Nauman combination worked, but unfortunately, only one will be able to play in the Pindi test.

I can count 2 dutch players in the SA team. Is there a sizable dutch population in South Africa?

you don't avg. 24 after playing just two great seasons ... Nauman has played 79 FC games taken nearly 300 wickets with this test being his 80th now ... He has a significant sample size of being really, really good ... that it took this long for him to be selected just reflects poorly on the horrendous selection process in Pakistan

azhars FC average is in 30s too minus international , we need to groom an opener. Azhar ali needs some comfort now at the end of his career
 
If you apply a lot of pressure on Abid Ali at the start of his innings, you can force a few false shots.

Abid needs to learn how to control his nerves and bat at low strike rates. The new ball will give runs when bowlers mess up their lines, but other than that, one should try to have a solid defensive technique.

Haven't seen much of Imran Butt, so hopefully he can provide a steady hand at the top of the order.
 
Both openers look a bit tenative here, just need to see of the new ball and nothing silly.

He was the leading run scorer in the last FC season so has been picked based on that I think. Also there are no other stand out openers in domestics yet so it was either him or Shan.

I agree, after the first 8 overs, the runs will start to come naturally. The target is easy, but they need to give themselves the opportunity to score runs by just negotiating the new ball and start to take singles when the opportunities arise.
 
Imran Butt looks like actor Adnan Sadiqqi (Tum mere pass hu fame).
His first class average may not be too impressive but this could be he has not played much, sono reason why it would not improve more he plays. He certaiy looks less streaky than Shan and those two edges for 4s were deliberately played.
 
Abid Ali needs to get closer to the ball to smother the spin, he's hanging back and this will lead to an edge if he doesn't watch out.
 
A team's spirit can be seen by the fight from the tail enders. Rabadas attitude sucked, even Cullinan was frustrated by the fact that he didn't even bother to run for a single when he got dropped and then played such a lose shot the ball after the reprieve. And then Nortje played across the line to a left arm spinner moving the ball away from him when he should have been batting for Bavuma. Similarly I found it puzzling that Bavuma was readily giving the strike to the tail of the first or second delivery of the over. Something does not look right in the SA camp
 
Abid gets a 4, he badly needs runs here. He looks worse each time i see him against pace bowlers.

more than half his wickets have come in last three seasons.158 wickets in his last 28 matches(last three seasons) at 21 apiece and before than 127 wickets in 41 matches at 27 apiece. So cant really blame anyone here

I agree. Rabada was constantly giving glares to QDK and whenever a boundary was hit off him, he looked really angry at his team.

Bavuma was giving strike for no apparent reason, it was quite baffling. He should have hogged the strike to pass time, but he didn't.

It might just be the frustration that they threw away a really good chance to put us under the carpet.

Let's hope it's not a big issue.
 
Rabada might be a good bowler but he has zero sportsman spirit never seen this kid smile or even have a laugh with the Batsman regardless of the match situation or opponent

This. If I am not wrong in terms of FC averages of openers currently the best we have is high 37-38, the category in which Sharjeel, Abid and Omair Yousuf fall if I am not wrong (More than 10 FC matches). Haider Ali averages 46 and has played just 8 matches till now (He has the potential I think to be in 40s) and Abdullah has played just one match in which is scored century on debut.

27 avg. is still pretty damn good for a spinner that too left arm ... not sure what the point is of downplaying him
