What's new

Pakistan [378, 86/3] defeat South Africa [220, 245] by 7 wickets in the 1st Test in Karachi

This. If I am not wrong in terms of FC averages of openers currently the best we have is high 37-38, the category in which Sharjeel, Abid and Omair Yousuf fall if I am not wrong (More than 10 FC matches). Haider Ali averages 46 and has played just 8 matches till now (He has the potential I think to be in 40s) and Abdullah has played just one match in which is scored century on debut.

Exactly that just shows you the quality of batsmen in Pakistan so I don’t know how our fans expect players to come from domestic and break open the international scene with their batting when they average miserly in domestic cricket as well.

27 avg. is still pretty damn good for a spinner that too left arm ... not sure what the point is of downplaying him

not downplaying him but he was not setting the world on fore 3 years ago ,there was no injustice with him.
There is no reason for crying.

He has been given his debut when he deserved , fawad al is a totally different case.

ahmed shehzad averages above 40.

sadly he lost his way otherwise he could have had a very good career in test cricket.

Its a dry slow wicket with variable bounce , very dry so spinners have come in.

Credit to nauman ali he is flat doesn't turn it much but is solid and very good at controlling the run rate and drying up the runs up one end.

Not having a go at nauman but yeh he plays a good foil for yasir , but he is hardly reincarnation of graeme swann , so let's not get carried away, he is getting on a bit question mark on career longevity.
and also he cleaned mostly the tail up , the proper attacking spinner who got the top order and key batsmen out is yasir shah.

I very much doubt nauman will be dropped in pindi we will go with 2 spinners, curator will have to pull out another slow dry wicket but hopefully one without the variable bounce which messes our batsmen up don't wanna be 36/4 again .
but its a home series and our strength is spin so we should go play to our strengths .

Beautifully poised to win this game, only 66 needed should look to use this as batting practice and aim to win by 10 wickets.

Some big big blunders by SA today.

Most notables- Rabada not taking a single, Bauvuma not working with the tailenders and QDK not taking his reviews seriously.

Although Pakistan have been great, the captaincy and lack of seriousness from SA has been alarming to say the least.

Would’ve been tempting to see Sajid have a go but this has been a great game for Nauman. I mean what a test debut.

Thats correct and still averages 40 in test cricket. Unfortunately couldnt do much for CP this season in FC cricket. I think he was wrongly dropped from tests as he didnt do much wrong at that time in the format.

South Africa only have themselves to blame. Their self-destruction in the first innings in terms of poor shot selection and reckless running was almost criminal.

If you cannot beat this dreadful Pakistan side after winning the toss and batting first, you need a good hard look in the mirror.

Maybe one way, and I will put it to your intellect, is that Pakistan played well?

Good to see your post!
I thought you don't show up when Pak is doing good
You proved me wrong :srt

Although there's negativity in the post but still it's a welcome first step

Negative Nancy mentality as always.

If Pakistan pull this off which inshallah they will after losing the toss. South Africa just destroyed lankans and we got destroyed by Kiwis so it would be a great come back.

InshAllah they do indeed win this comfortably and we get some good practise for Abid and Imran.

Wao I went for jumma prayer leaving SA at 237/7 and then found this. Congratulations Pakistan for a memorable victory.

Pakistan were in a very bad situation after Day 1, Ramiz was crying in the commentary box that the 220 SA scored in the first innings was substantial given Pakistan's frail batting line up, but our last 6 wickets ended up putting a good 350 runs which showed that the team fought back from a tough situation against a very good pace attack of Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi.

Then SA recovered to 175/1 and our team ended up taking the last 9 wickets for 70 runs. Hopefully this team takes a lot of confidence from this test match.

The tears are real, folks. :yk

One thing I should warn Pakistan here. They should Saud Shakeel in the second test and invest on him for a long long time. They should not make the mistake again off investing on mediocre players with mid thirties average in first class cricket like Asad shafiq. This should not be carried away with Butt scoring a 30 not out.

Lol just the first innings? The SA had multiple opportunities to shut us out of the test match i.e. they had us 28/4 in the first innings, they allowed us to score 378 in the end, they were 175/1 in the second innings and some 20 plus runs ahead with 9 wickets in hand, they ended up losing their last 9 wickets for 70 runs. Indeed they have a lot to blame themselves for.

Anyone got any tissues to wipe away mamoons tears.

I think if Abid fails here he needs to be dropped. Open with Azhar and saud in middle order for 2nd test.

Memorable in the sense that it is the first test against a strong test team since 2009 on home soil for Pakistan and they have won it.

Lol :)) fair enough!
I thaught you were giving us the minnow status rn

Main difference was the first innings. South Africa should have posted 350-400 after winning the toss and that would have been more than sufficient to win the match. They let it slip from their hands.

Beating Pakistan is a piece of cake for teams like India, England, Australia, New Zealand and even current South Africa. They are far ahead in terms of talent and skill.

Unfortunately for South Africa, their application was lacking in the first innings and the run-outs and reckless shots indicated.

Yasir is better than Maharaj but South Africa are better than Pakistan in other departments, and the Yasir factor would have been negated had they put runs on the board in the first innings.

The bowlers should have done better on day 2 but they were already playing catch-up, and batting was difficult in the third innings. VD Dussen and Markram played superbly, but there was always a chance of a collapse as soon as a wicket fell.

Ultimately, you have to go back to the shoddy first innings display. That is what cost South Africa the match.

Fully agreed
But he has a tendency to throw his wicket away (just warning fans beforehand)
Still a great prospect!

I’ll be fair to Abid and says he’s been fielding really good in this match, that might earn him a trial in the next game.

Wow. Only Pakistan could have made it interesting. What an utterly low standard of batting Pakistan has!

Lmao “shoddy first innings display” even after they had Pakistan at 26-4 at the end of the first day. Oh man instead of writing useless essays like always admit the fact South Africa are a mediocre side as are Pakistan.

Time for Babar to finish it now in his first test as captain

Both openers have filled their stomach's during the extended lunch break and come out and played absolutely dreadful shots.

The only Test we might win after ages and these guys still don’t want to do it convincingly

Pakistan should stop looking for openers.. Open with azhar and rizwan.. Slot in two proper middle order batsman..

Absolutely Awful as usual making a meal out of it..So inept this batting openers are useless ..Abid was never made for test crickt.

It’s ok lol it was just cause they know target is a joke so they trying to end it quickly

Actually the main difference is Pakistan played better than SA, one min you say nothing more than a 3 -0 whitewash is good enough for Pakistan one min SA are better than Pakistan, keeping all angles covered ?

Let’s just enjoy the performance and match was a good test match.

That's no excuse to throwing away wickets cheaply.

If they got out to beautiful bowling, that's understandable.

Handing the wicket to the other team is just not acceptable.

Still averages 48 even after that tendency, and sample size is not so small-46 FC matches. And he will improve more once he is taken in the international cricket environment.

Pak top order needs some sorting before the Rawalpindi test. Abid has caught well under the helmet but, has been struggling to create much impact since Eng tour. Maybe time for Azhar to open and Saud to debut.

If pakistan win here, people say a winning team shouldnt be changed but Abid has been poor for a while and needs to go.

I would play Imran Butt in next test as it would be unfair to drop someone after 1 test but drop Abid he is too lose for opener, and bring Saud S in. Tabish could also plai in place of Hasan Ali, but Pak will go with same team for sure knowing the management.

Abid and butt will walk into the team just cause of their catches lol

Abid has to go i would actually play Shaan ......The problem is Azhar will never open and he shouldnt aswell to be honest he is the only experienced player left we have so cant make him open

Man I hate Rabada as a person on the field even though I don’t know him but I’ve never seen a hint of sportsmen spirit in this guy absolute trash human being

51 more needed still, lucky we aint chasing 150 here

Not really Pakistan would have played differently when Pakistan wanna lose they would lose even if they were chasing just 50 it’s never about the runs for Pakistan it’s always about their day.

Good controlled bowling by SA so far and the low bounce on pitch also helping.

Their pacers were definitely better in this test. Pak pacers need to improve a lot for the Rawalpindi test

just seems weak all round. Very weak body language like he is scared, makes stupid decisions for example youve just come out from your break just do some tuk tuk for a few overs and keep the score board ticking.
Doesnt instill confidence in the lineup.
