Space Cat do you think they're really considering opening with Ronchi?

It looks like Rutherford won't be batting in this innings, if McCullum was ruled out for the day you'd think Ronchi would have come down the order.

Taylor is playing the warmup? I thought he was unlikely for the first test, let alone the warmup.

Gah.

I hope we're able to negotiate with Pak A and bat again, the batsmen are really short on practice.

Only have this 3 dayer before the Test on Sunday...

Poor team selection by pakistan.. especially anwar.. doesnt have anything to offer in 5 day cricket.

Should get the first test. Seems to have excellent control too.

Karamat Ali to Williamson, OUT, takes a long
stride down, trying to drive but misses it,
keeper quick to take the bails off, loud
stumping appeal and given by the leg-umpire.
may not have been difficult decision to make
by look of the batsman

Gah I hope we bat again - Taylor, Williamson, Rutherford, Watling and McCullum all need batting time.

A 3 day warm up isn't good enough prep for a Test series, especially if you don't have ODI's before it.

Karamat ali is a talent and a half , one of the best at the junior level, hope he makes it to the national side some day , i really rate williamson so its a good wicket to get .

Anderson Dropped.

35.4

Bilawal Bhatti to Anderson, no run, Outside off-stump again, batsman goes for a defense and gets and edge to it, goes direclt into the hands of second slip and instantly out of his hands aswell. a simple chance missed

Yes, and remember he isn't at his best. I expect both him and Taylor to fail miserably this series. Knew we'd struggle badly the moment I heard the two were out injured during the SA series. Just have a look at Clarke who struggled throughout the series, he's a better and more seasoned player and he struggled big time to find touch.

@ Aman

If Kane fails then you guys are in real trouble. He plays spinners very well.

I reckon McCullum was going to do it today. "Who's a good McCullum stooge, in terms of the tempo and my precious left-right combo?", thought Hesson. Would explain why Anderson seemed to be getting slightly more bowling focus than expected.

Disappointed NZ's dismissals feature cuts and pull shots. Even I knew from down here that the pitch was a bad one for variable bounce!

So you think they're thinking of playing Anderson over Neesham? And what about Wagner, he didn't even get a bowl in the first innings which indicates we'll be going in with 2 pacers, 2 spinners and an A/R.

Nah surely Rutherford can't play now. No Plunket Shield hit-out; got on the plane with a badly bruised or possibly broken finger.

Ah, why wasn't Jeet Raval given a chance if Rutherford is carrying a injury?

I think they wanted Michael Bracewell to look a bit more polished on the English A tour than he did. Raval averages about 50 at Auckland venues, where Munro dominates and even Gareth Hopkins made 8 first-class tons and averaged high 40s.

That'll explain it then. I saw a bit of Michael Bracewell and Jesse Ryder the other day in the Georgie Pie Super Smash (be it just a T20, it's the only time I've seen much of him), they didn't look too flash against Boult and Vettori.

What are your thoughts of Bracewell, a better option than Rutherford and a potential long term opener?

Yeah I can see maybe a low 30s guy in Tests, Bracewell. Better off his pads than Rutherford, a better natural leaver of the ball. Hesson gave Bracewell his first chance down in Otago and played him as an opener in every FC match that he coached, so I feel a bit for Raval there.

I would of thought Raval suited these type of pitches better than the other options. I havn't seen him play a whole lot but i would of thought he played spin bowling quite well given his background.

Yeah it is uncanny how often the alpha male 'big calls' and 'rocks or diamonds' personality is getting you places under McCullum. Good for Fulton, Devcich and so on. Bad for Raval. ;)

Two cathes dropped and lot of edges going across theip fielders

3 consecutive sixes by Southee.

22 off Razas over.

What a phainty :uakmal

McCullum needs to bat, he won't get any prep before the Test on Friday

Declared

McCullum should have had a hit out.

Bowlers will manage, it's the batsmen that need the practice in these conditions!

Lol are they expecting Pak A to declare after 50 ovs in return. .:yk
Hopefully after 30-40, set a random target so Pak A don't have to worry about losing. This is a warm up match intended for practice for us, our batsmen really need it.

Rosco & williamson didnt play vs sa. Got out early here too.

Like clarke they may struggle here too.

Lol Shan Masood goes once again cheeply so he has scored only in one innings out of four against Aus and NZ. I don't get how he keeps getting picked for test squad.

Epic trolling by Pak A. Now Anderson will play the tests and get owned by even part timers.

i think it must be predecided how many no. of overs both will bat in each innings.

Gotten so little from this game

Batsmen got little to no practice, McCullum will be going into the game without a single innings in these conditions while KW and Taylor will be going to it with 1 innings a piece after returning from injury.

Give Pak A 200 runs and set us 250 to chase in 2 sessions.

When will you stop crying?

Both KW and RT are good players of spin and they have played in these conditions before so it's not alarming if they don't get to bat twice here.

It's not all on conditions, it's about getting some game time under the belt.

Excluding this match, KW hasn't played a match since the CLT20 (lol) while Ross Taylor hasn't played since the CPL(lol) which was 3-4 months ago.

These 2 should bat till the end of the day if they can, no need to let NZ bat..

Our batsman are deprived of Home cricket and A-games, they need to bat against International sides as much as they can, it is more important than giving match practice to touring NZ team
