What's new

Pakistan bowled out for 239 at Stumps on Day 3 thanks to fightback by Faheem (91) and Rizwan (71)

One of only three people who actually merits a place in the team. Others need to be booted pretty quickly, and pretty soon. Abbas looks and sounds good. But he cannot be the strike bowler. A blunt Abbas, no-show Naseem and Yasir mean Shaheen has to bowl long spells and also be the strike bowler.

Abbas should be our third seamer , we need to find a pace partner for Shaheen. I believe Hasnain has those traits with his height and pace. Once we have the ideal foil for Shaheen, we can look at phasing out Abbas.

Haris never had the temperament. The only format he should have played was the ODIs -- given he is neither solid in defence nor quick in scoring. I pointed out yesterday that Haris is going to nick one to the slip (or gully) and he stayed true to that. Goes to show that he has not worked on his weakness at all.

He’s not worked on his technical deficiencies nor much on his physique. This should be the final series.

Its amazing how they keep throwing guys in the wrong format. Selection of sohail khan and musa khan is another blunder.

Husnain isn't ready for Test cricket...

That’s the thing. SSA needs a strike partner. Abbas is OK as a third seamer but not as the primary strike partner.

Do we not have any good finger spinners or tall off-spinners with good control? The fourth bowler has been missing in action for a while.

very timid batting show , at least try to score some. This all 30 plus top order has shown no signs of maturity.

We have so many good spinners in domestic. Zafar Gohar keeps getting mentioned on this forum but conveniently forgotten by selectors, we have Usman Qadir -- who also needs some first class experience first, we have Zahid Mehmood who looks like a crafty operator. There is another off spinner I have seen with a weird action -- I cant recall his name -- but he looks impressive.

I hope they bowl short at Faheem, he seems more confident pulling and hooking than driving the bowl

What is Southee’s average speed in Tests? Seems like our batsmen can stand out of their crease if they wish to / prefer to.

I reckon once Hassan is back, he can share the load with SSA for a while until we find another bowler to replace Abbas and move Hasan as teh first change up.

Rizwan should be looking to take more of the strike. Even though Faheem is playing ok, it is only a matter of time before Faheem dangles his bat at a wobbly delivery outside off stump.

How much more we need to avoid follow on?

Can we please play this team in the next test.

Shan
Rohail Nazir
Azhar
Babar if fit
Fawad
Harris sohail
Rizwan
Ammad butt
Shaheen
Hasnain
Naseem shah if fit

OH MY GOD! Just seen Haris’ dismissal. Man o man o man, he got out like that again. The most obvious dismissal given his technique. Remember his airy and flashy drives through slips and gully in 2018 (ENG).

Typical, no feet, sliced drive. One of Pakistan’s most talented batsmen according apparently.

Wish there were relegations in this sport to sober us up.

Dont think Rohail can open in a test match. The team management should be setting youngsters up for success rather than throwing them at the toughest scenario. I reckon the bigger problem is Haris and Fawad. I would rather debut Imran butt in that middle order and get him some experience.

Fahim is good but he was not developed in test cricket. Last match he played was in 2018. That’s pretty bad could have developed a fine allrounder.

I like Ammar yamin though he has potential.

just need two days of rain

Avoiding follow on should have been the target instead of surviving the day. I don’t like when Pakistan plays defensive cricket. They are not known for that, but since Misbah took over as Captain and Now coach we have become a joke of a team.

Mashallah abid Ali with his 25 has cemented his spot for the next 5 series.
Hairs is a great tailunt i agree.
Azhar Ali has expeeriyans so cant argue much

It took almost 20 years for us to break a record the slowest 100 in the first innings of 65 overs since 2001.

:salute

Misbah to help us compete with great cricketing nations like nepal and Oman very soon

This is exactly right.

The captain or the leader ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS has a trickle down effect on those under his command.

These little rain breaks are helping kiwi course big time. Freshening up the wicket and allowing pacers to rest in between. I think, if possible Kiwis will I force the follow-on now.

Its already 1-0 for NZL. Unless miraculously rain saves us.

There no rain forecast for the next 2 days looks like 180-200 overs and 14 wickets in hand to grind out a draw.

Muhammad Yousaf in his latest interview said that he worked with Faheem on his balance, he was commiting too much on front foot before the delivery was bowled, had to get him to neutral stance.

Maybe that change is showing, he looked decent in T20 as well.

Ok, so we should try.to stretch this innings out and avoid follow on. Let's say around 255 all out in 120 overs. That leaves about 130 overs left (I'm assuming rest of today rains out). NZ will probably look to bat about 50-60 overs to post a quick total to defend. That leaves us about 80-90 overs to bat out a draw. Of course, we must avoid the follow on, that's the most important thing.

Azhar Ali is finished and has been for a while now. Haris Sohail does not have the confidence or temperament. Both should be discarded.

Haris does not have the game as well. Cant play a single horizontal bat shot. And technique against deliveries leaving him is atrocious. But the biggest criminals are those who select him

We’ll do well to bat more than 90 overs with the second new ball coming and 1 wicket bringing in the tail looks like a big effort will be needed on day 5 to save the match NZ still ahead.

That is if NZ bat again a follow might end the match by tomorrow if the top order fails again.

Faheem continuing to bat well in SENA conditions.

First in the UK and now NZ. Don't remember if he did well in SA as well.

Quite a decent fight back against old ball, but PAK scored too slowly & lost too many wickets early - now the second ball is due in few overs, probably PAK won't reach 232.

NZ won't be enforcing the follow on anyway. They don't want to be batting last on this wicket.

The way Faheem and Rizwan have batted shows the flaw in the Azhar Ali/Fawad Alam approach. If you actually try to score runs instead of just standing there, the bowlers lose their rhythm and make mistakes.

That is why Mickey never believed in just blocking in SENA conditions. Even if you don't last long just get the most out of it with the bat to stay in the game. These Pak bats won't stay at the crease long anyway so better play some shots and get runs for the team.

The Misbah Doctrine is the totally opposite and doesn't change anywhere.

Solid innings from Rizwan. Respect. And he has earned it. Hard work and fighting attitude. Probably going to be our face saving innings.

Misbah took Sarfraz all the way to New Zealand just to watch Rizwan end his career forever.
