What's new

Pakistan bowled out for 294, stretch match into Day 4, set South Africa target of 41 to win 2nd Test

Shafiq needs to play a marathon innings here. We all know that he has a habit of getting a big score when he is on the verge of being dropped but this innings needs to be super extraordinary. Can't just get a century then get out, needs to go big, 150+ score ideally

Rabada is the only bowler who has looked threatening so far this innings. Just negotiate him out.

Yep he needs to stay focused out there and grind it out.

I know those intense 8 overs out there must have killed his legs your right.

Yeah because the length of overs is relevant in anyway to injury. He dived and landed awkwardly while fielding and could have caused a minor injury scare leading management to not send him too early

But of course peoplem only get injure based on how many overs are bowled ....

150 for Asad, 100 for Shan, 70 odd for Fakhar, a century for Babar and Pakistan set a total for SA....ahem....

Agreed. Only a big ton will make up for his meekness this series.

This batting effort from Asad clearly shows most of the players in this team are playing for themselves. He did nothing in NZ series, Srl series and in this series when it was needed by the team.

Now he needs it to save his career and he is showing his otherside.

Yeah and no announcement would have been made if Fakhar was injured.

While I'm impressed by the fightback, it only takes our side 50 odd balls to go from 100-2 to 120-8.

Give me a chance, I will try my best as well.

Now we are going to select garbage players on the basis of how hard they try. Wouldn't even make the A team if chachu wasn't chief selector.

I think he is very talented and even today couldn't execute the shot well but it was on. Full and wide

Guys, please dont think way ahead. focus on the game and not who should score what. Each ball is a different story!

Has Imam contributed in a single game since he started playing regularly as an opener? I can't remember a single innings where he played a meaningful knock.

What a waste.

Only if its helps us win the match. Tons in losing causes are of no value to the team.

Not sure ive seen such good straight drives from an Asian player for so long (Besides kohli ofcourse)

Shaani over Hafeez and NZ was ours. Likes of Hafeez hve caused a lotnof damage to Pak cricket

Look at Asad Shafiq. How on earth can you term this as a fluke? He is taking on Ollivier and disptaching him around. Why is this Shafiq not seen, unless his place is under threat? How long can we ignore the elephant in the room and realize our players do not lack the talent, but rather are mentally too weak for international cricket. People who harp on about lack of quality, should watch Babar's knock in the first test and Asad's here, and realize the problems are much deeper than a simple lack of talent.

Shan has improved his game. His technique was all over the place last time.

That's quite a non-sensical comment. How would he benefit from playing badly earlier?

Probably down to the pitch. You're overthinking

Shan isn't the most talented but he is hard working as hell.... Dravid type

Also this is what a little bit of education does to you, paindu players like Shehzad and Akmal will keep making the same mistakes for decades.

paindu is not uneducated. Paindu just means someone is from a Pind. One could be an educated paindu.

I think his highest score was in that 3rd Test against NZ in 2014, we lost that game, he scored 139. He needs to better that today.

What a waste.

He chased down the total in Irl tests along with Babar when so called seniors got us to 3 down for a low score. He was the highest scorer in Asia Cup for Pakistan. He has already got more 100s in ODIs then every other opener except Saeed, Aamir, Butt and Shehzad in just 16 matches.

He has definitely some deficiencies which he needs to sort out soon.

Place saving 50 from Asad, always does it after 7/8 failures. Am sure Azhar will do same in final test.

Whenever Pakistani batsmen have attacked , they have done well ...
Babar in first test , Sarfraz in first innings of this test and Shafiq today . Shan masood has been consistently good throughout ....

They need to concentrate after that drinks break.......

Rambo in the comm box, expect wicket to fall

Asad Shafiq scoring a strike rate close to 90 is something extremely rare. Enjoy it folks.

One step at a time..They should look to take small baby steps by clearing the deficits in 10's and not get complacent.

Education will help you to handle such kind of guys better. Every player in the team is different, some want their ego to be fed and some with talent but low confidence need to be lifted etc

Impressive batting. When in flow Asad is really a treat to watch, probably one of the best driver of the ball; definitely PAK’s best cover driver since MoYo.

This pair has the right idea of batting in SAF/AUS; once Kookaburra gets old, it’s much easier to bat and ball comes on to bat. I am sure had PAK not gone to lunch 5 down, that first innings of 177 could have been much bigger. I expect FZ to bat well here as well. Long way to go, but a target of 170 will be interesting.

And the petition continues - Shan for Test Captaincy after SAF series. PAK would have won against Kiwis with him instead of of 2 dummy hand at top.

He must have practiced a lot between the two games to be able to improve so drastically

Not that. He worked hard after getting droppped and performed consistently in domestic. He has shockingly scored in List A which i thought is not his best format. He is hard working and will improve more. I like his attitude.

This is the kind of cricket I like to watch when it comes to Pakistan, great, positive stuff!

Went to the grocers, came back, switched the tv on and saw the score...

Wth has happened in Cape Town?

When did i say that he would benefit? You are trying to read between the lines.

Most of the guys in this team dont push themselves to limits unless its them who is going to suffer by being dropped.

Asad’s career avg vs his potential clearly manifests that.

I hope by the time we are done batting the pitch has deteriorated enough for Shah to get into the game.

I don’t disagree, but when in flow Asad encourages other batsmen; when Azhar is at his best - he demoralises others & kills momentum. Still better today that he came almost as opener - imagine Azhar at 4, PAK would have been 64-2 now.

For PAK’s current batting, both actually makes the XI, but i’ll open with Shan-Azhar, then Hari, Babar/Asad, Asad/Babar, FZ/Umar, Rizwan .....

I agree with every word!

Bowlers must be so annoyed at Shan Masood for standing in front of the wicket.

I know whenever I did this, the bowlers would cry.

Awkward moment when Rambo is talking about his nonexistent batting :))
