What's new

Pakistan bowlers' performances in 2020

Those Test averages of our 4 main bowlers are embarrassing :facepalm

Shaheen you can excuse as he is new to the test scene. Even Naseem. You hope they would bring those averages down. Appalling from Yasir and Abbas. Unacceptable.

Reality should dawn upon Pakistan that they are now a middling bowling side. Saeed Ajmal was probably the last of their bowling greats.

Now is the time to promote good, solid, experienced bowlers from domestic and go with different mindset - containment, line and length, variation - rather than 'blow them away', 'reverse swing' and all that sexy jazz.

Fact is, Pakistan's bowling resources are thin and for all that they are, the former greats - Waqar, Mushtaq, Saqlain, Azhar - have not been able to maximize them either.

That's rather depressing.

Bowling has been below par for a while. It doesnt help that only 1 fast bowler has played 20 test matches though. No experience at all.

Our young fast bowlers have to figure everything out for themselves on the field. That's not an easy task either. I doubt they get much direction on each specific batsman from our esteemed bowling coach.

Shaheen is getting better day by day, but I have to say the opposite of Naseem Shah, Yasir Shah, and Mohammad Abbas. Those 3 have shown minimal improvement over the course of the years. Abbas has to bring his pace up, he is far to easy to negotiate when batsmen step outside the create. If he even operates in around 130kph, it will make a big difference to what he can generate from the pitch. Of course, he needs to throw in a few quicker ones once in a while to dissuade batsmen from stepping outside the crease.

Yasir has seen his prime and is no longer the bowler we have expected him to be. He was useful in the UAE, but his time is coming to an end. Abbas can still serve us for longer if he brings his pace up.

I actually had to look at these numbers 3 times to check and check again if I was reading them right.

Shocking numbers really apart from Haris Rauf in T20Is.

Appalling numbers especially in Test cricket !

Truly minnow level bowling. Pakistan's bowling strength is a big myth.

Thesr averages prove the fact is that Pakistan's bowling has been in steady decline for the past few years now. There isn't enough bench strength either which has always been the case too.

There's no direction no coaching or anything that has pulled this together and it is just steadily going down the drain.
