What's new

Pakistan collapse to 6-run defeat in 4th ODI against Australia despite Abid Ali, M Rizwan hundreds

23 runs off the last 2 overs.

Don't wanna jinx it but Haris Sohail's dismissal is a blessing in disguise THUS FAR...

Haris should be shamed of where he is today and only can blame himself if he doesn't make it to WC. Apart from his batting, I am not sure if he can last 9 games in less than 5 weeks. Could have been a real asset for ODI team with his bat & ball, safe catcher as well.
Sid mot help himself with that belly and slow batting, I am happy to takeRizwan ovwr him.And his slefish century.

Sarfraz must be feeling the pressure now.

Sarfaraz is a miles better keeper than Rizwan. Are you forgetting that Rizwan dropped both Khawaja and Maxwell in this match?

Rizwan can play as an outfielder and proper batsmen in place of people like Malik, Imam or Haris.

Haris and to an extent Babar are the type of characters who need constant motivation. They simply lack the desire and the passion to be top players.

This series have pretty much proved that Haris and Shan are not cut out for modern day ODI cricket. I hope both prove me wrong but they dont have the shots to dominate

yes Sarfraz has done well behind the wickets but he has to score runs.I am sure he was not ready that Rizwan ahould play this series as in long twrm he will be in trouble. After wc I mean.

I think Haris will be dropped and Rizwan will travel as the spare middle order batsman + backup keeper.

If we don't have a good WC, I don't think Sarf will be part of the team post-WC irrespective of his own performance.

Abid Ali's SR approaching 85. I wonder how people who blast Imam, Haris and Rizwan for batting "too slowly" are going to handle this.

Abid Ali batted at a SR of 120 till 40. Big difference in giving a good start than tuk tuking to a 50 like Imam does. Even though he accelerates later in his innings he does eat up a lot of balls limiting our score.

Abid is probably looking to not get out and keep the partnership going.

Abid Ali's strike rate is dropping a bit now. He needs to keep at close to 100 strike rate. That's what a modern day settled batsman supposed to do. Having said that, I am impressed with what I have seen so far. Need to see if he has some six hitting powers when needed.

PAK got 280 in first 2 games, because that was 330 tracks, not because the painstaking century that Haris or Rizwan scored. Today also, if PAK has to chase, team must not allow the asking to raise above 7 any time, better if they can keep it below 6. In modern games with Power Paly, the better teams often actually reduces asking against new ball and then allow it to grow slightly till 40 overs before final charge, but never allows the asking to go beyond comfort, be it at the cost of couple of extra wickets. With a good partnership, you can make up loss of extra wickets, but what is impossible is maintaining an asking of 150% (from initial asking) for 20+ overs, no matter how many wickets at hand - first batsman down, next man is instantly in at 7+ asking rate, which will inevitably lead to couple more quick wickets and the chase is over; end result might be a respectable defeat but that tactics hardly can win a game.

The target tonight is 278 and not 330. That's why I said 1 century even if it takes 125 balls will be enough to get to that total. Abid Ali has to play selfishly now and get to 100. Don't worry about the run rate. Akmal, imad and Rizwan have to worry about that.

It is worse to tuk tuk later in the innings than at the beginning. Abid has now played a very similar innings to what the likes of Imam and Haris play. I don't mind it and I feel like he should be the backup opener if he does well in the next game as well. However, the double standards are funny.

He played a few dot deliveries but then took a few 2's and took risk to get that 4. Unlike others who then preserve their wicket and eat up dots.

It's also his first match. I think he has done well for a debutant.

No doubt about that, he has done very well.

Pakistani fans are the most excitable in the world.

Not everyone is afraid or fearful of getting disappointed. They get excited because they're passionate and it gives them joy. Some, on the other hand, would always stay pessimistic to protect their feelings.

Zampa needs to give up his 1970’s tennis player impression.

No one is criticizing the hack but they want the head of imam

"The hack" has already been instrumental in Pak winning a world tournament and he fought his way to the side with a domestic average of 50+ and was selected on merit. Whether he performs or perishes is a different matter.

While Imam used chachu's connection to get to the side despite having a domestic average inferior to several batsmen. That's where the hate stems from.

so he has a compact game in the powerplay and ability to rotate the strike off spinners in the middle overs.

Abid Ali didn't play a lick of PSL yet PSL is proclaimed as the be all and end all when it comes to selection.

Reward CONSISTENT domestic performers not six week wonders.

Refreshing partnership should win it from here Abid playing first 3 matches would've helped.

I see you are back at it in supporting Inzi.

The same Inzi who selected Yasir Shah whose LOI average is within touching distance of 50.

But but but Inzamam is nothing without the PSL!

No one said he's perfect. Shah was a very poor selection.

Abid Ali taking a quick two after facing 85 balls.

We were told his fitness isn’t good enough...

Meanwhile Umar Akmal was huffing and puffing in the last match after scoring 30

It's not about supporting Inzy it's about supporting consistently performing players who have grafted year in year out in our domestic system.

Abid's one of those and has looked better than any of the Six Week Wonders like Asif Ali and Hussain Talat.

Bechara Saad is not going to have enough time to show what he's got. Saad should definitely bat at #4 in the next game.

As well as Inzi's own nephew, who had no trouble finding a spot in the side despite Abid piling on the runs for the last couple of years.

These two consistently getting 5-6 runs an over without much effort or risk, when was the last time you saw Pak batting do that?

He seems to have another gear which should help him catch up later in his innings. Needs to just keep going right now.

If you put down your bias spectacles you would see that those batsmen (minus Rizwan today) have to resort to slogging, coming down the track and clear the front leg type hoicks to raise their SR from 50-60 to 85 odd.

While Abid's SR has been in the 90-100 range throughout the innings.

Abid Ali and Mohammed Rizwan were killing it for A team in UAE.

This is why fans beg for A team series.

Just shows how bad the selection committee is or are they just taking bungs to pick players. Why it took so long to pick the correct players and why do they keep picking TTFs

A 50 for Rizwan now. Well played. Abid on the other end has looked tired in the last 30 mins.

I thought Imam had high fever.
He is sitting there laughing comfortably. Not looking like someone suffering from high fever.

Can't believe all Pakistani pundits have Shoaib Malik in their teams. Tells you all you need to know about their understanding of Pakistan domestic scene.

I am happy Abid played well but he is slowing down now.

And i just hope he replicates these performances if he hopefully gets further chances and is not a one match wonder.

If Abid is indeed getting tired he needs to go for broke and start smashing it

Perhaps they prefer to be realistic. Regardless of how PPers feel, Malik will play all matches in the World Cup provided that he is fit.
