This is like the first time a first class match has been held in Cairns in over a decade, let alone one featuring a test team in a new day/night format.

The capital cities have plenty of internationals and domestic matches so won't turn out for these things but places like Newcastle/Townsville/Wagga Wagga/Darwin/Cairns etc get good crowds.

Our overall run rate is under 2 RPO (1.94 to be exact)

They led by 94 on First Innings.

They batted 18 overs in the second session and crawled to 51-1.

Then, in the final session, in 15 overs they have scored 17 runs for 3 wickets.

I wouldn't recommend it - only because they needed practice at floodlit batting - but if they had slogged at 6 runs per over in the second session they would have been 110-6 and could have declared at Dinner with a lead of 204, and then like last night would probably have won tonight.

I just can't emphasis this enough about Pink Ball cricket in Australia.

Step 1: SCORE FAST IN DAYLIGHT.

Step 2: DECLARE AT DINNER.

Step 3: SPLATTER THE OPPOSITION TOP ORDER IN THE FLOODLIT FINAL SESSION.

It's great that Pakistan has had two goes at batting in the dark. And their terrible results are the same as everyone else's in Australia.

But that's enough. In the Test match, use tactical declarations to make Australia bat those 30 overs in the dark.

It is Pakistan's own fault.

I wrote months ago about how they could optimally adapt to both the NZ and Australia tours.

1. Play the UAE West Indies Tests BEFORE the ODI and T20 series.
2. Do two weeks of Day/Night practice in Australia BEFORE going to NZ. The Night sessions would have prepared them for the swing in NZ.
3. Take ten extra players for the two weeks in Australia so that they guaranteed difficult opposition. Pakistan v Pakistan A at Brisbane or Perth, with a potential Pakistan A opposition team as follows against today's Pakistan team:

1 Sharjeel Khan
2 Salman Butt
3 Mohammad Hafeez
4 Umar Akmal
5 Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
6 Aamer Yamin
7 Hasan Ali
8 Sohail Khan
9 Junaid Khan
10 Mohammad Asif

You would only have the extra ten players for two weeks, but you'd ensure that the whole squad has had a great workout Down Under.

Umar Akmal played four First Class innings this season, in two low-scoring rounds.

He hit 1 century and 2 fifties and averaged 58.21.

I don't agree with him then going off to the BPL, but he needs to earn a living.
