What's new

Pakistan defeat New Zealand by an innings and 16 runs to win 2nd Test & level series 1-1

Hasan Ali is terrific. My only concern is if he loses his pace as he gets older, he might be less effective. He doesn't seem like someone who can bowl quick while still bowling within his limits, like Steyn for example.

Hasan seems to give it a 120 percent so he can bowl around 140 kph or more. I wonder how effective he will be as he gets older and perhaps the intensity decreases a bit.

This is not a criticism but an observation. If he can maintain his pace into his early 30s, we might be looking at a potential atg.

Steyn is still bowling 140 + though. Not comparing him with Steyn but if he keeps himself fit he can also do that.

He can also take the route some of the other pacers took at older age to play and remain fit by cutting down on pace and focusing on accuracy.

So we have won the match but if you see this thread it looks all doom and gloom.

Jeez so much negativity.

I used to enjoy the match threads but now it's just full of wrist slitting novices.....

If PAK wins toss at Abu Dhabi, another 10 for is coming.

It's the usual rubbish posters again and again. Really spoils the match experience for a lot of us.

A comfortable win for Pakistan in the end.

The horrific first innings collapse by NZ cost them big time. But Yasir bowled beautifully, the right pace and length where as other spinners couldn’t replicate it.

Pakistan should have won this series 2-0 at this stage but at least it makes the final test exciting.

Agreed with you guys, more people would have showed up with their theories if we would have lost somehow.

All darkest era, worst team etc thread would have appeared instantly.

YOu mean Indians?

Anyway, back on track, a great, great performance by Yasir Shah here. Months of talk of him not being at his best or not being good enough or being overrated and yet he thrashed an entire team, almost single handedly.

One most not forget that, even though the UAE pitches turn, they are not Indian or Sri Lankan or Bangladeshi wickets. You could see the other spinners get a bit of turn, a bit of bounce but Yasir looked as good as Ajmal out there over this test (and plenty previously).

It turned out to be an okay decision but Pakistan could have saved them so much hard work if they batter again and wasted some more time for wicket to open up bit more.

Its international cricket, Loss will always come with criticism. its the same with every team.

If we win this game we have pretty much done it with 3 passengers - Asif, Imam and Hafeez who all need to be dropped.

yeah i have to agree here. Hafeez has been non existant, imam needs to more time (but I think we give Sami a chance now?) and Bilal has been mediocre. But a good thing for Pakistan that we can win with little contribution from these three..also Abbas has been pretty quiet although economical..

Think Pak can probably beat any team in UAE in a series bar India

Even India as well, depends upon how we play the match. If we play poorly we can lost against anyone and if we play well we can win against anyone. This is true for Pakistan, not true for every team as potential is there they just need to perform as a team consistently.

We have actually played these two matches without Fakhar and Shadab who are our main weapons in LOIs and performed decently in whatever oppurtunities given in tests.

If they both come in for the next match team will be much stronger.

Do you know that by harping on about batting on and not enforcing the follow on you just make yourself look an even bigger novice.

It demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge in terms of the ground and the wicket they were playing on, the state of the match etc etc

Excellent comeback after the upset in the first game.

Solid batting performance, not perfect but much needed given out of sorts we've been with the bat and confidence must have been at an all time low. The positives are the return to form for Azhar, Haris showing he can Grind and Babar's first ton.

Bowling performance is hard to judge collectively but Yasir's was on a different level and destroyed any chance of New Zealand victory in the first innings. Hassan is showing he can be a test bowler and Abbas slightly unlucky to not pick up a few wickets. Still think we are a bowler short of having a complete attack!

New Zealand fought hard to comeback into the game, showing all the quality's of a good test team and showing the next test will not be as straight forward as most seem to think.

Overall happy with the planning, execution and result.

Looking forward to decider...

One of the most one sided Test victories I've seen in the Sarfraz era - NZ were never in the game after the first session on Day 1.

The panicking over enforcing the follow-on was unnecessary. I usually wouldn't enforce it as UAE conditions are very physically taxing but we only bowled 35 overs in the 1st innings. Given how badly NZ batted it made sense to reinsert them when they were low on confidence.

NZ were not going to score enough runs to set us any difficult 4th innings chase - you don't come back from 90 all out that easily especially given how they were all at sea against Yasir.

A much needed win after Abu Dhabi and hopefully we can seal the series next week.

Great win guys... Great batting, Great bowling, Great fielding & even Great Captaincy...

Agree 100 percent. Sarfraz kept rotating the bowlers well even though Bilal and Abbas were not much effective. Good match for Sarfraz in captaining, keeping and little batting that he afforded himself. Not bad for wicketkeeper batsmen even Nambia would think twice before selecting.

Actually apart from the Ireland win, we have won all the 3 matches comfortably out of the 4 in Sarfraz era but on the other side 3 out of 4 loses under him were close ones with 2 being extremely close (lost by 9/11 runs against SL, lost by 4 runs against NZ) and major blame lies on Sarfraz for that too as we would have won both those matches easily if he had scored only 5 more runs.

It's sad that this thread doesn't have many replies post-match since more than half of the population on this forum spent their day crying all over the place.

Good win - there should not be too many concerns over NZ scoring 300 although Sarfraz’s tactics and intent with the fields at times were questionable.

Would like to see Shaheen debut next test so he can get a game under his belt before he goes SA. I would bring him in for Bilal Asif who clearly struggles on low bounce wickets.

We need another spinner to share the workload.
Don't wanna break Shah

Some are gone to seek reasons to prove why this format does not matter and in actual fact T20 is indeed the one that matters most - but wait we won in that too:wa

Abbas did well - was unlucky to catch the edge but look at his economy! His tight bowling creates pressure and the others benefited.

Bowling attacks need to compliment each other and not be individualistic

The openers for next test need to be changed, in both games so far in series they have been poor.

Just shows how well Haris and Babar Batted. They set it up beautifully on a tough track.

Pakistan need to win another toss to help me forget what happened in first test

Congratulations to PCT top win and as expected bounced back thanks to super bowling by Yasir!

Complete fluke of a win. Yasir just fluked it with those deliveries. If he hadnt taken those 14 wickets he would have gotten nodody out..completley useless and should be dropped.

Also Azhar and Haris and babar should also be dropped because their strike rates were not 120 odd. Dont these guys know how to play cricket? I mean we need to teach them how to hit out..we have some excellent players on PP who could easily teach them. Also think we need to send these Pper's to the UAE quickly so they can help Taylor too..

Pakistan cricket is finished...finished I tell you..they couldnt win by a innings and 200 runs..India would have easily done that..Finished..!!

Need to get Fakhar in and maybe push azhar up top with him..who to bring in though?

Just head fakhars injured still

Abid Ali could come in, make Azhar open and bring another middle order batsmen in, wont happy though

they just announced the same squad..so its either Saad ali into the middle order as debutant or we go with the same line up and hope for the best!!

Congratulations guys! Superb victory. Legendary stuff from Yasir Shah! What. A. Bowler!

Shame they don't work when Pakistan ain't doing well :sarf2

Excuse me for taking care of my family and hate for the UAE unexciting cricket but, only a few come close to ME supporting Pakistan positively on this forum.

Congrats to our team for victory. As mentioned above, we did it despite of some bad performances.

Bilal Asif can be very effective contrary to what many believe here. He just needs to up the pace a little on slow surfaces and vary it. A batsman can go on a blockathon against him in UAE but not in SA where batsmen would need to adjust their shots far more quickly while playing attacking cricket. I personally would like to play him in SA vs Yasir - which will not happen. His bounce will trouble if given a chance.

Bhanja #2 is a big question mark. I am very sure he will be the part of 1st test in SA and sure will bat twice if healthy.

In other words, hope for Hafeez to fail and get done with him at least in tests.

After the horror show of the first test, this victory in such an empathic manner was exactly what was needed.

Well done to tall the players and the coaching staff for a brilliant victory.

Great win although I am still not over the 4 run defeat!:babar We missed Yasir like no ones business. Without him we'd have struggled to win this Test no doubt about it.

Where are the posters hiding who were criticising the batting strike rates of Azhar, Haris and Babar,,??
This is a test people not your usual ODI or T20s, Never heard the saying "Sabr ka phal meetha hota hai?"

Problem is these players apply the same approach on non-UAE wickets around the world.

Probably outside UAE, but I have to disagree about similar approach in UAE. Are you forgetting the test Pak won vs Srilanka while chasing. Who would have thought we would win that by upping the scoring rate?

Good comeback win after the second innings meltdown in the first test.

England do this a lot when they lose a test match at home, they come back hard in the next test match. Glad Pakistan did the same and hopefully can win the series from here.

Yasir killed us in the first innings.

We're fortunate that the series is still alive, it should be 2-0 to Pakistan but Pakistan will win the series anyhow.

Simply do not have the quality to compete here.

Pakistan did not face Yasir, they were facing Patel and Sodhi who aren't good enough to make use of the conditions.

We could have easily been 2-0 by now.

There is no easily with Pakistan. We don't have the professionalism of other top teams. Last clinical and clean performance was 2-0 vs Australia the tour before the recent one, and 3-0 to England in 2012. Both under your arch nemesis Misbah. Even in his tenure we gifted a test to New Zealand, which was an epic phainty with Bmac and friends amassing 600 or so. And almost losing a test to England if not for umpires saving us.

Cherish this win, enjoy the probable series win, but don't push it. Don't expect clean sweeps.
