He is 18 and his body is still developing, he should be used sparingly in tests. Probably can be tried in the last test and in SA tour

I didnt mind sticking with Bilal post his 6fer (Selecting him is another debate) till now but, this is the time when Mickey and Srafraz need to make the call for change in 2nd match and if they dont it will be another strategic mistake

Which is why I would be tempted to play him in SA instead of Yasir because the Proteas are known to be vulnerable against right arm finger spin. They got mauled by Moeen Ali home and away vs England.
 
Out of the 37 overs yasir has bowled today, has there been a single delivery where he hasn't acted as if he almost got the wicket. The oohs and aahs after every single delivery!
 
Bilal gets good turn and bounce and has variations too but for my liking his pace is low and on these slow and low pitches this doesn't help.

Third Test match since a year long absence, was always going to take time to regain his sharpness.

Ideally a full series will give him some momentum going into the SA series. I think he's bulked a bit since the U19 WC as well.

This guy believes that Azhar is a trash coach. I would not take him seriously...Some people are capable of feeding negativity only and thrive on controversy...Now that Hassan is bowling well, which he believed Azgar is responsible fo when Hasa was not performingr, he needs to find a new bowler...Hey TOPSPIN, would you trade Shaheen for Hasan in this test?
 
If management can select Zafar Gohar and he can catch his flight this time around, he can be a very intersting prospect in these conditions.

176 should be chased down but def not easy. There will be turn and ball is reversing.

Someone has to score a good 80.

Openers owe us a performance.
 
Surely even Pakistan cannot botch this chase on what appears to be a good batting surface. Not always do you get such conditions for a fourth innings chase.

You are one deluded poster if you are going to get hyped over one Hasan Ali spell. Shaheen has a much higher ceiling. Unlike you I have some cricketing sense to realise Shaheen will be the key in SA (along with Abbas) because of his pace + height, but you would obviously you would pick the 5ft7 Hasan Ali over him on a bouncy wicket.

Question should be Hasan Ali or Amir for the next series... Now as for not taking me seriously when we see your POTW accolades then talk.

Perfect in between target - Kiwis would have loved a total of 200+, while PAK should have kept the target below 150 (by batting better in 1st innings - can't blame bowlers here after taking 20 wickets for 402).

More concerned about the turn. The ball will be changed so the only question is if there will be swing for the pacers.

Imam and Hafeez are the key to this chase. Hafeez will bat at a 60 SR if set and Imam has played very well in chases.

Babar Azam has been Pakistan's best bat in Test cricket recently. It's criminal to send him at 6 to bat with the tail which he can't. He should be batting at 4. Haris at 5 and Shafiq at 6.
 
Weird chase coming up boys. I hope Hafeez manages to knock off a few runs at a good SR, before Imam and Azhar settle in for the customary tuk tuk
 
Question for NZ would be whether they start with Collin De Grandhomme or a spinner alongside Boult.

LOL...Dude you can never get ME side tracked. Question is....Is Azhar a bad bowling coach? I mean that is what you have claimed, right? We will discuss Hasan..Shaheen or any bowler later...
 
10 overs left today - perfect for Boult as well, he'll be able to use the new ball for 10-12 overs at stress either side of night.

PAK should win this, Kiwis don't have Herath. But it'll depend a bit on MoHa also - if he gets out quickly, Imam & Azhar are capable of turning this target to 225 easily.
 
New Zealand aim should be get Azhar to the crease as early as possible and not get him out. That is the only way they can win this one.

I said if the pace bowling performances in LOIs continue to rot like they have after the CT then yes something has to change whether it be the bowling coach or Sarfraz as captain.

If Azhar Mahmood is so good why have the performances of Amir and Hasan Ali (post CT) in LOIs been mediocre?

Let's not hear excuses about the pitch. We've experience of batting in the 4th innings in Asia on wearing pitches and we should have learnt from the Sri Lanka run chase debacle last year.
 
5'fer for both Yasir and Hasan. This doesn't happen often. Also Abbas streak of at least 1 wicket in each innings broke. First time I think he was wicketless in an innings

You POTW honorable GENIUS Topspin sir, tell me this...I am sure that you were a good student in any form of an educational system. Have you ever seen even the best of the students suffering on Occassion? Does that mean that blame goes to the teacher?

I don't know why you underrate Imam so much. To me he's going to be playing for the next 10 years. He's good. He will have failures but mentally he is very superior to all the rubbish openers we've seen over the past 10 years.

Better students also need better teachers - even more so when they are going through a low phase.

Not for Test - he is a perfect investment. He is a boundary hitter on selective balls, which is perfect for Test opener's spot. Same was Taufique Umar.

Here good to see that he has started in a positive note - key to chase target in Test is reduce it quickly.
 
Imam doesn't bat this aggressively in ODIs :))

Big difference compared to Sami Aslam and Shan Masood who were opening in that 130 chase vs Sri Lanka last year.

So you are admitting that good students can have off days and teachers not to be blamed for it ALWAYS, right? Then you must also admit that a good or a bad student can't be JUDGED based o, one quarter/semester results. It does not make ANY sense to call for a teacher's head based on one semester result, does it...I hope you are catching the drift

Kid has brain, and he is educated - I might like him as future Test Captain, provided that he retires (at least for the time being) from ODI - he'll loose both in that route.

Imam is the first Pakistani opener in the last 10 years that I've seen who thinks based on match situations. He has a good match awareness about him. You just should've seen his innings against Ireland when Pakistan was chasing a similar target like today and were 14/3. Imam counter-attacked and was about 50 off 64 balls or something with 7-8 boundaries. He realized that counter attacking was the way to go then when the ball was seaming all around. He has a very good cricketing brain.

I wouldn't advocate for Imam to be in the ODIs if we had a clone of Fakhar on the bench. But we don't. He's a good investment in ODIs as well. Pakistan needs one batsman to play out the 50 overs and when Imam does that, he invariably ends up with a 90ish SR. That is good enough. In ODIs, the ball has to be carried by Babar Azam who comes in at 3, not Imam. Babar should be the one who needs to accelerate.

But i have to see him doing that in ODi.He is not the answer to our opening problems in ODi.
 
Good call by Imam to get moving while the ball is still new and hard. Once it gets older and starts turning batting on the pitch will be much more of a challenge. Curious to see where Pakistan will be at the end of Day 3. If they somehow got to 50/0 will make tomorrow much easier.
