Pakistan finish Day 3 on 137/8 against England, lead by 244 runs

Thanks for coming, Captain Failure. Why for the Love of God we always have the worst player and complete passenger as our captain, why o why?
 
How can Pakistan make a mess of this? How? With a lead of 100+ they should have buried England today. Still favorites but why make things tough for yourself?
 
Forgotten how many times Azhar has been out LBW to England. Practically every innings.
 
Big lanat on Azhar Ali's face. Only playing due to being Misbah's yes man.
 
Pakistan ’is quite literally One minute down, next minute up’ (and vice versa) :)))
 
It’s sad for Azhar Ali that he is endlessly out LBW playing across the line to straight balls which don’t seam or swing.

And it’s worse for Misbah that he keeps picking him because he is his Proxy on the field.

It’s not technique - it’s just that his eye & reflex is aligning with his biological age; it would go from bad to worse. Not everyone is Misbah or YK.

Pakistan don't have good batsmen, even the 320 they scored in the first innings was down to one player having a blinder. The only genuine class player in their ranks is Babar, the rest...well just look at their test averages.
 
It's so surprising to me how a player with 78 tests, a captain and experience in various conditions has such a glaring flaw with his balance and hence technique whereby he's constantly stuck in this poor position getting trapped in front or bowled. Surely, the UAE conditions can't have had THAT much of an influence on his basics. Very disappointing.
 
Rizwan needs to take it easy this time. He looked so anxious and eager to get off the strike last innings.
 
Azhar is rubbish as usual. Lets see how long Misbah can protect him. Hopefully not more than 3-4 years since Misbah is the chief
selector+coach
 
England would be batting on a fairly decent batting strip. I would say they are in the driving seat now. Our bowlers will be in panic mode in the fourth innings.

In Test cricket, once we lose momentum we rarely fight back.
 
The least these guys can do is to play some sensible attacking shots, just don't go in your shells, your are not gonna last long anyhow, so make hay while u can.
 
Azhar Ali has been done for a long time. Averaged 25 or so in the last 3 years and 20 test matches. . And if you look at away from home, averages below 20!
 
If you look at Steven Smith.. Always when he gets across with his trigger movement he opens his chest, what it does it you are in a gorgeous position to hit anything bowled at you, all of the legside opens up. 99℅ of the time you gonna make contact with that ball. Actually it's impossible to fall over with that position.Also runs are easy to score. I definitely don't like this side on position...
 
Perhaps Pakistan should have sent in Shadab ahead of Rizwan after Rizwan's batting in the first innings and Shadab's 46.
 
I will never ever understand Woakes bowling always destroying us for some reason.

But I guess it's not that hard when most of the team bats at a tailender level.

Like Ponting he will lose a lot of average points if he keeps insisting on playing. Azhar will end on an average below 40 which would be unfair to himself considering how important he has been for Pak.
 
I predict Azhar will score one half century in the last Test and secure his position as our captain for the next two years.

Because doesn't need to answer anyone. PCB gave him too much power.

Happened to Inzamam as well - he used to fall over playing shots to leg throughout his career. But his sharp reflexes would come into play to save him. When he got older, the reflexes went and so he declined. Same is happening to a much less talented Azhar.
 
Hard pitch to chase 250+ on. But then again, when you have Stokes in the team, anything is possible.

Pak have the distinction of being the only team that is always under pressure regardless of game situation.
 
A Pakistani batting collapse in the 3rd innings outside Asia and a batting collapse in the 4th innings anywhere in the world to draw the game is an absolute given. It would be madness to bet against that.

PAK is batting first here Mamoon, another 50-60 with last 6 wickets; Yasir alone can run through England.

It clearly is technique. Head falling over LBW since 2016 like a million times. Anything straight (middle or middle-leg) is always played towards square leg. WHY? Surely someone must have told him to either drive to mid on or play with a full face.
 
Pakistan need to somehow get to 150.

I do think we can think defend 250 on this pitch.

I wish they would try and score some runs instead of pretending they know how to defend. A quickfire 60 runs would put England right on the back foot.
 
Need to play some shots where possible to put pressure back.

There is no compare between Ponting and Azhar. Azhar is a timid and average impact less player.

This, I want to be hyperbolically negative so as I can say I told you so is one of the most tired opinions on this forum.
 
Might not feel like it right now with the genuine pressure that England are creating out in the middle, but Pakistan are still in the favourable match position. They are 173 ahead now and to be honest any target that they set England from here on it is going to be challenging in these conditions.
 
Next test, England should drop Anderson.

Pakistan have enough on the board already on this pitch.

England winning from here is impossible. As an Indian fan you should be rooting for Pak.

Problem is pakistan only have one free flowing batsman and thats babar , no other batsman is capable of a counterattack.

Yeah. They need to play positively.

Pakistan are effectively 173/4 now.
 
btw i wanna see abbas get a king pair. Never happened before, almost happened to Zulqarnain haider in England back in 2010
 
Just need another 100-150 runs and Pak are favourites, Asad Shafiq has to show his worth now as a senior player
 
Azhar Ali really need to work on his technique and foot work.
Take a break..go and play some domestic/County cricket.

Better withdraw from this series.
 
When I turn on to watch Pakistani batting most of the time its lackluster, due to missing the first innings thought of checking this inning.

I am going to just stick to watching PCT bowling.

I am sure I have seen him batting with same cross front leg technique few years back and he scored like 10-12 hundreds In 3-4 years. Now his reflex is just not fast enough to give extra micro seconds and take the bat to line. Also, I feel, he is picking ball length-line late - foot movement is an after thought, hence he is hurried. That ball was probably dead straight and he missed it. His shuffling technique will always catch him in front
 
Some good singles. But loooong way to go. Need to aim for 20 or 25 without another wicket.
