Pakistan finish Day 3 on 137/8 against England, lead by 244 runs

No ball and slip missing the ball, poor cricket from England.

Abid could be heading the Hameed way. Smashing start to his career at home and then nothing later on.

Boy o boy, we don’t like to maintain advantage do we? Seriously Abid. One of your biggest proponents but come on dude.

That was an incredibly dumb shot from Abid Ali, so unnecessary. Shadab did the same in the first innings to Bess, gave him a gift

I don't think sweeping was a bad idea but it was poorly executed. Needs lessons with Younis Khan.

A bit of luck for Azhar there.

He should have either kept it on the ground or should have played it more squarer.

Man that YK notebooks looks full. War & Peace sized novel coming to a Grant Flower near you...

It's something he learnt from Woolmer I think. His trying to copy everything Woolmer did. Also why he is trying to be a father figure for everyone.

What a way to throw your wicket away Abid. Decides to sweep the widest ball Bess bowled.

Azhar has reached his away average of 12 since retirement of Misbah and Younis here.

I think you’re right. He credits Woolmer as the person who made him YK. Certainly comeS across like a man on a mission in terms of PCT.

Abid was lucky already with the drop catch

Drop him for next game for imam

A team shouldnt be dropping opener after first match of the series in my opinion especially when he is coming with performances in last 2 series.

We always struggle to really push home the advantage and take teams completely out of it

We will probably finish up leaving England 260 or 270

He also said that rather then trying to change techniques he is trying to talk to them and work on the mental aspect of the game. Its why he keeps mentioning that everyone can talk to him about any issue.

And I feel that’s the right approach given the small period of turn around. Long term changes at such short notice will just create more problems. If he sticks around longer, he can do more then.

For all the chatter about Pakistan being great players of spin, I do think we tend to cover our anxiety by stepping out, sweeping, slog sweeping etc by not letting them settle. Pitch is a handful now if bowled well on.

True, but people criticized Grant Flower for not doing much about their batting techniques. There will be people here who will say what has YK done in two months time with them.

:)))

Dean jones also use to keep a notebook with him in psl

By the way, I am staunch Younis Khan supporter (since he scored well in Australia 2003/04). But I feel we can all take jokes on our favourites etc.

i wonder if they do scoring, because that something that could be delegated to someone else.

dean jones once shared what he had wrote

Fair play. I just feel it is better to have players speak to the media and be able to *professionally* give their opinion on the support they are getting. Should not feel pressured. That is where I feel YK has already got people like Shan and Fawad vocally vying for appointment. I think that is a better barometer.

Yasir Hameed was an incredibly gifted batsman. Unfortunately did not know anything about constructing an innings. If he was an Indian or an Australian, he would've been cultivated into a top class batsman because of the batting culture prevalent there. In Pakistan, he just flattered to deceive. Some of his shot making was class. Still remember his 90 odd against India in Peshawar in the 2004 ODI series. Probably his best innings in international cricket.

Looks like Azhar’s doing his cardio on the field. Don’t mind that lol. Just survive bro. Everyone’s rooting for you to score here. Sign off like a hero, and frankly all will be forgotten.

Think he scored in Australia too? 2003/04?

England should bowl Stokes. He has scored a duck and dropped a catch. Why is he not bowling?

He had no clue about his off stump. Like literally no clue

His cover drives were a treat to watch though

Yup, and I don’t think it shows from my username, does it?

At the risk of derailing the thread, was my role model growing up and feel like he was/is a more aggressive and astute tactician. But I know this, because of an interview I watched of Fawad or someone where they said that when YK was their captain in department cricket, and if they got out playing a bad shot, he would never bring it up or even talk about it. If they did well, he would be all praise about them alone and in front of them when they were in front of others.

I have always liked YK The Player.

Soft from Babar - disappointing test from his standards. He was feeling for it quite a lot. England are here to play.

Yes that too. But that is something that can be easily rectified. You don't have to lose a complete batsman just because you didn't know your off stump. But our batting culture is non existent. You almost have to be a complete batsman like Babar to excel otherwise there's no one who can correct you technically. Even Shan Masood went to foreign coaches to get himself correct.

We were never going to push the advantage with this batting line up.

England will be chasing something in the 200s

what a soft dismissal again from Babar, aur kru over tareefein, babar this babar that, like always we are giving England a sniff, what a way to lose advantage.

Azhar and Shafiq have been retained by Misbah when all their contemporaries (Cook, De Villiers et al) have retired.

Now we will see whether there is some justification for their retention.

WTH Babar, getting squared up all the time early part of the innings. Makes this douche Woakes the second coming of Malcolm Marshall.
