What's new

Pakistan secure a tense 5 wicket victory in the historic one-off Test match against Ireland

Azhar has to play at 4
Play Fakhar. Drop faheem and Rahat, bring in Hassan

fakhar and harris and azhar and babar-------5th bowling option

Extremely impressed with your perseverance in regards to Sadaf. You bring him in discussion every time we talk about cricket. While general opinion is that he is a slower version of Rahat but you present him like a much faster and deadlier version of Wasim Akram, good for you.

Haha perseverance not just for Sadaf but for all youngsters who i rate ;p I believe in giving them time.

haha and no he is not second coming of Akram but much better in my view what he has made out to be here. Would have been like Abbas who averages less than 20 in test cricket.

Bro r u feeling ok. They only need 3 bowlers here. They will be happy to bowl 15 overs each on adrenaline in half a day
The top 3 are plenty good enough in these conditions . That kane dude was quite unlucky 1st innings

What did I tell you? Ireland cannot defend it. A score of around 250 and then I would have written PAK off. These are not 5th day wickets with herath bowling arm ball grenades .

Our last convincing Test win was more than a year ago, i.e. the first Test in West Indies.

Absolute shambles this.

Imam looks like a real find!!!
Excellent denfense and have got proper cricketing shots, very good footwork, doesnt feel pressure and doesnt miss on bad balls. These traits are not easily available among most of the international batsmen.
If he keeps on working hard, the guy has got a bright future.

Boss that babar catch gets taken and the energy levels reset and the cat is amongst the pigeons again

Either way, this is humiliation. This Pakistan test team is one of the weakest in world cricket at the moment. I predicted this would happen a few weeks back. People expecting these newbs to score in conditions totally alien to them are kidding themselves.

It's not a humiliation but it shows how vulnerable Pakistan have become recently in test cricket. Other than that I think Ireland have played out of their skins to get this far in the test. You couldn't ask for better preparation for the England tests.

Was a good call, but the way ball is swinging... kudos to these youngsters Babar and Imam for taking it hone

They need to give chance to Usman/Saad/Sami/Fakhar in the side game before the England test.

Drop Azhar and Shafiq from that game, this 'll give signal to both of them about their position and a chance for youngsters to prove. I hope this happens and we can see the talent in real rather just on paper.

Well played Babar, big 100 to follow hopefully at Lords

Not when you have batting until 8. Anyway Babar was batting very slowly earlier. Just plodding along. Imam was clearly better. Test cricket is extremely difficult for minnow nations. They just don't know how to play for 5 days.

Imam continues to carry the legacy of his uncle when it comes to getting involved in run outs.

Typical Pakistani ending to a typical Pakistan performance. I would love to see the skies open right now and end the match.

Goodness me stokes is gonna be licking his lips with running like this

Actually I think Ireland will be much better at test cricket than other minnows, considering they have experience of over 1000 (mostly county) matches under their belt.

Imam more so than Babar who simply wasn't playing his strokes. You cannot afford to sit back in swinging conditions. You'll allow bowlers to settle on a nice line and you'll eventually get a nut with your name on it. Imam was playing his strokes and that made the difference imo.

Imam continues to carry the legacy of his uncle when it comes to getting involved in run outs.

Thats just inexperience of playing with each other at this level, nothing that cant be improved especially when Imam is a pretty fit lad

Who's fault was it? Imam? Did not see it.

One of those run outs where you cannot blame either batsman. Both didn't expect the fielder to get to the ball, and Babar was off the blocks quicker which cost him in the end.

Ball is moving and you know our batting.I am happy we got away with it otherwise many passenger in the team and youngsters carried the team which is atleast a positive thing

This Stuart Thompson really gets banana swing. If only he learns to control it and perfects the art of pitching it on middle and leg stump going away from the left handers.

Ramiz regurgitating the usual generic rubbish. Glad he won't be commentating in the England series.

Yes Imam has been a positive from this game, as well as the batting of Shadab and Fahim. However, this win is no better than a defeat. Embarrassing to say the least.

we are 7th ranked team for a reason. We should improve from now onwards.

Specialist captain arrives and specialist captain goes.

To be fair, it was a decent innings by his rubbish standards though.

Specialist Captain At his best,, Sad thing is his captaincy was rubbish as well in this match , So he isn't even specialist captain.

Sarfraz has to be the worst cricketer in the world to captain a team in all three formats. Absolute joke cricketer.

I know you are having a bad day because Pakistan is winning

Some people showing their usual glass half full mentality and lack of understanding.

Is it me or Ireland have really bowled better than Pakistan today?

(better swing bowling)

Don't see us ascending from 7th/6th in the near future. 5-0 n England and South Africa awaits us, we will be lucky to even draw one match.

I wonder when will Sethi beg BCCI for a series next. If the GoI obliges, India can easily overtake Pakistan in Test H2H without breaking a sweat.

lolz . i was going to say this.He is burden on this test team without a shadow of doubt .HE is doing karan akmal as a wicket keeper.

People who don't accept this win can take a cold shower and cry...:dw:dw no need to spread the rubbish here.

Azhar, Shafiq, and Sarfaraz. 3 Batsman out of the top 5 are woefully out of form, wonder what the management is planning for england.

Their dibbly-dobblers are perfect for these conditions against inept batsmen such as ours. You can find hundreds of bowlers like them in the County circuit.

I hope we will atleast draw 2 matches which will not affect our rankings as lower ranked team is not affected.but with this slip catching and bottom heavy wiketkeeper i hope we do well interms of catching to be atleast competetive.phir tu UAE ma tests honay ha.

I have absolutely no idea why Rahat was selected for the tour let alone why is playing this match!
Hasan Ali is head and shoulders above him even if he is largely untried in Tests.
Even Junaid Khan or Wahab would have been better selections.

There is a strong correlation between our selection problem and recent performances in tests.
The failure of our first class system and heavy reliance on the PSL to select players for the longer format is a recipe for disaster. Rahat did reasonably well in the PSL, but how does T20 cricket compare with Test Cricket?

As you may know, Jimmy Anderson isn't considered good enough for white ball cricket.

530+ Test wickets but in Pakistan a bowler like him wouldn't get selected ahead of Rahat Ali.

What is your take on imam?

I have been impressed with him since his ODI debut hundred. While he is too slow for Limited Overs, he is technically sound and has a good range of shots. He reads the game well too, and it is clear that he has been coached well.

Certainly an improvement on Sami and Masood.

Mamoon atleast we got rid of the tailender Sami and Masood for sometime after finding Imam.Such a pain to watch that tailenders bat.

But you were saying yesterday there is no way pak can win this match.

No, you are confusing me with someone else.

I said that there is no way that "Ireland" can win this match, simply because they do have the experience to compete over five days, and that is exactly what has happened.

I have been adamant all the way that there is no way Pakistan can lose this game. We are awful and Ireland have played well, but an Irish win was never in question.

This "win" will cover up some major cracks in a very broken team.

I reckon Ireland would have been delighted with this result before the start of the match. But, having seen just how bad Pakistan is, they will be disappointed not to have won it.

I agree. Should we have won easily? Yes but had we coasted and Rahat taken a few wickets, we would have gone into the England series blindly and probably with same line-up including batting positions. Work for the coach and captain to do here as they cannot say they were not prepared when things don't go their way...

Ireland at home, playing their first test match, experienced first class bowlers used to the conditions..

All in all this has been very good preparation for our series against England.

A win is a win...

Well done lads

Mickey Arthur and Vernon Dursley look more relieved than happy.
